Woods of Ypres - Lightning and Snow

Probably the album I've been most addicted to in a while - knew most of the songs within about a day of listening to it first.

Sabazius - Devotional Songs

Monolithic as fuck. It rarely feels draggy too, which is saying something for a 2.5 hour album.

It's not really playing anything right now, but yesterday I spent about 11 hours in the woods hunting. I spent about 7 hours sitting under a tree (for 3 1/2 hours in the morning and 3 1/2 hours in the evening). Perfect time for listening to music. Listened to mutiilation's black millennium (grimly reborn), which I figured was perfect for a dark cold morning sitting on the forest floor. From there on I figured I might as well try that darkspace band I've been putting off, now that I have nothing but time. It was forgettable for the most part as I figured it would be. Skagos and Alda were choice for being in the woods. Then I was hiking for the next 3 hours with no music so i'll only mention the morning stuff.

I figured I ought to make listening to black metal special, being in the woods and stuff.

Darkspace is hardly forest music dude. :p Try putting it on when you want to fill your head with a massive void that seems to suck reality into it with so much strength that it makes it disappear. True story! :nods:

Marilyn Manson - Antichrist Superstar

You know, I've been listening to this for almost a decade and a half and I still can't get enough of it. Major album in my book, I get why people dislike it but I still think it's fucking awesome!

Cathedral - Reaching Happiness, Touching Pain

Murky doom with dancing, soaring flutes in the background... Sort of epitomizes what I think of when someone says doom era Cathedral to me. Hauntingly beautiful, and I've not really appreciated it enough until now.

Skagos - Smoldering embers

Hmm, the song is a bit boring, but as a result quite ok.
But the clean vocals are of the worst I have heard in recent times.
That sucks!

It's a lot better than Mechanical Animals at any rate. In fact I think AS is their best album.

Cool but can you REALLY hunt while listening to music?!?

What?!? Give more time to the (2010) Skagos & Panopticon Split. Belive me, you won't regret!

As Fire Swept Clean The Earth (from Below the Lights) by As Light Dies from (2012) Önd - A Tribute to Enslaved CD1.
I don't like this cover AT ALL but the tribute is not bad!

I actually find his new album great. Especially the song "Breaking The Same Old Ground". A bit weepy than he'd usually go and it works.

That album is cool. It's a real mood album and I just listen to it several times a year. it's definitely killer from the start until the very end though. Not to mention it still holds some memories of getting into metal.

NP: Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

Sounds like the guitar's screaming and crying. Powerful instrumental stuff here.

White Medal - Agate Back t'Ooam

I greatly approve of the recent developments White Medal's sound has undergone. The music becomes evermore layered, varied, and complete: from a relatively crude, even hackneyed black metal act, White Medal has evolved into a sprawling, immersive, genuine form; firmly embedded in the genre's tradition, White Medal represents the branch of black metal directly influenced by Celtic Frost and Hellhammer, and add a refined sense of texture derived from punk rock and hardcore (striding, upbeat, and forceful) to create an ambiance that keeps the listener agitated. Here's to hoping the imminent debut album will have them progressing even further (although I would also like to see the production values improve, because I find White Medal's sound to be at times too lo-fi, to the detriment of the music).

Also, you can listen to it here to positively assure yourselves that I have no clue what I'm babbling about.

Yeah, it's their best for sure. Although I do have very strong love affair with MA, but I agree that it's much more melancholic and straightforward. "Fundamentally Loathsome" is such an underrated song though.

Slugathor - Unleashing The Slugathron

Finally managed to get my hands on a copy of this album, it was about time! And with it I can now rest quietly as I already have all of their albums. Today is a good day, oh yes it is. :nods:

"Cold Water Music" -
Aim

I checked this out because of the album cover alone. Reminds me of a more downtempo-ish version of Massive Attack, and I dunno Burial, or something. Also, unexpected sax breaks. Neat.

Yes! I was the mule and driver, so I really was just sitting under a tree stand for like 7 hours, also doing a good amount of hiking. I didn't get a hunting licence this year, since it was only my second time ever out hunting. I dragged a dear about a mile or something up a hill in the woods and through a fucking meadow. It was cool. Luckily the hunter I was with killed it pretty close to where we went into the woods.
