Pungent Stench - "Happy Re-Birthday"

There's a part on this song which is very rock 'n roll sounding and a very interesting part of the song. The band wasn't even playing death 'n roll on this record.

Deeds of Flesh - "Ritual of Battle"

Not a big Deeds of Flesh fan but I can say that this is my most favorite song of theirs. The brutality and technicality neatly meshes on this track.

Temperance - We Are Free

"Of Jupiter and Moons" is probably one of my favorite power metal albums of 2018. So many great and catchy melodies, and a subtle hint of prog in some songs.

Vlad Tepes/Torgeist - Black Legions Metal

Like all LLN releases, this split has the characteristics of being very grim and raw.

A Secret Revealed - Sacrifices

Unkvlt, but enjoyable. Thudding sludge metal grooves provide another dimension to the music and help it avoid being as monotonous as some post-black metal can be.

Leviathan - The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide

My opinion so far is that this album kicks ass and I really like the vocals.

Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence

Oh man, I never really got into thrash too much (except for a few bands here and there). But this shit is insane, glad I finally checked it out based on seeing a lot of good stuff said about it on this board/the reviews. These chugs truly make me want to go ape and destroy all my own property.

Earlier I listend to Burzum/Aske and Bathory's The Return. Currently, I'm listening to Archaenae Perfectii - L'Arche arcane des parfaits by Celestia.

Opium Warlords - Let It Pour, Let It Pour

Beautiful. A. Witchfinder is really a kind of wizard on bass. Must put this on an endless loop.

Side one of this record is maybe the pinnacle of Priest. Maybe.

Vader- Welcome to the Morbid Reich

Killer album. Like most of Vader's album, not as good as De Profundis imo

Hold Your Children Close and Pray for Oblivion
By: Anaal Nathrakh

Pretty much playing this on repeat at the moment.

Saint Vitus - Thirsty and Miserable 12"

always needed to pick this up, never realized it's a 45rpm, so naturally, playing slow as fuck at 33rpm. Big riffs.

Graveland - The Celtic Frost

I'm beginning to think that his demo will not be as good as Following The Voice Of Blood.

Usurper - She-Devil

This is some seriously sharp, well-written metal. I am totally addicted. Can't find a flaw yet.

Witchery - the Devil and the Damage Done

The debut is still their best work. Picked it up on blue vinyl 15 years ago just for the cover, thankfully it rocked.

Wagner Ödegård - Griftudijke

Really relaxing and almost dreamy ambient/folk stuff.
Sounds very nordic.

if Peste Noire, Deathspell Omega and Mr. Bungle had a baby. Holy shit.

Darkthrone - Unholy Black Metal

I'll admit I just don't get this. Its not heavy, doesn't seem very evil, and doesn't seem very musically interesting. Why listen to this over early Bathory? With that I get an edge, there is some teeth to the sound. This doesn't make me want to headbang at all. JMO. YMMV.

Is this the first Darkthrone song you've heard or what's your relation to the band? I'm just curious, this seems like a very fresh, first-time-hearing-them hot take. I always thought the debut was better for new fans, because there was so much Celtic Frost inspired stuff anchoring down the faster parts. Unholy Black Metal is kind of the opposite.

Blind Guardian - Traveler in Time

Alright, so I am not to familiar with this band, but I want to get into it a little.
Spinning Tales from the Twilight World now, and this first song rocks at least!

You're in for a treat--Blind Guardian are legendary for a reason. Their first two albums are fairly solid speed metal, but their 90s albums are among the best metal albums, let alone power metal albums, of all time.

I have Circle the Wagons, which I know might as well be a different band, and have heard various other songs over the years so its not my first time listening to Blaze though Tranny. I've tried to see if I could get what others are seeing off their early stuff but just not digging it. I don't mind some black metal but usually its IMO full of better riffage and more "oomph" than this, at least to my ears. I think I should try some mid area before they tried to be Motorhead.

After a decade and a half, this has come to be my fave Black Metal album. The final two tracks are sensational.

OT Hate Forest Battlefields
Thanx for reminding me.

Exodus- Fabulous Disaster

Happy 30th anniversary to the album that made Exodus fall extremely behind the pack.

I will say this though, the first two songs absolutely fucking RIP! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :np:

Coroner- No More Color.

Add this to the ever-growing list of albums that have finally clicked with me. Holy fuck, if there was ever a definitive air-guitar album, this might be it. Whether it's the addictive catchiness of "Die by My Hand", the slick and psychotic shredding of "Mistress of Deception" or that brief slow break in "Tunnel of Pain" that will straight up rape you, I'm glad this finally caught on with me. :headbang:

Dimmu Borgir - "Raabjorn Speiler Draugheimens Skodde"

My ultimate favorite Dimmu track. This is glorious symphonic black metal at its finest. The dramatic synths act as a focal point to the band's rhythmic attack.

Funeral Mist - Salvation

Going back through the Norma Evangelium Diaboli catalogue, this is some good shit.
Guess I'll give Hekatomb another listen after this. I feel a black metal binge coming on.

Right now (for something completely different):

Violence
By: Anathema
From: A Natural Disaster

An instrumental track that is mostly pretty passive with some rockin moments. Seems like a decent track to end the evening on. Had music playing while I was writing.

Liquid Tension Experiment - Rhapsody in Blue (Live in Downey, CA 2008)

One of my top 5 favorite recordings ever made, studio or live, of any genre or era. Were there such a thing as “heaven” this could serve as the soundtrack to ascension.
