Marduk - Dark Endless: Highly underrated black metal album.
Tsjuder - Desert Nothern Hell: Starts to grow on you gradually throughout the album.

This was released 10 years before I was even born, wow.

Slayer - Show No Mercy

I like what I'm hearing so far. Kind of has a death metal feel.

As geared toward the old school as I am, I'd rather either a) take a vacation to the 80s rather than live there, or b) be born way later so I could still be a young un waving the flag for this music.

Brenoritvrezorkre - Nèvgzérya

These LLN demos are always good to listen to at night especially when it's dark.

Earlier I listened to Deathspell Omega's Paracletus; I think that this band should be listed as technical black metal. Currently, I'm listening to Ulcerate's Everything Is Fire.

I listened to Paracletus this afternoon too. Maybe my favorite black metal album of all. It is insanely technical, aggressive, and so on, but the use of catchier parts (motifs even) and the atmosphere captured push it into another dimension from most of its imitators. Fuck, hearing it again after a while made me order vinyl copies of the trilogy + Synarchy.

NP: Furia - "Nocel"

Good stuff, not as weird as the 2016 one (which I also like a good bit). This one has more black metal, but I can see how it evolved into the looser, jammier, spacious stuff.

Entombed - Left Hand Path

Supposedly, a death metal masterpiece, but I don' t understand what the big deal is! Damnit, it makes me feel awful!

Update: I judged to early, I think the album is worthy of an 8.4/10.

Fates Warning - Awaken The Guardian

Listening to this gave me the idea to check out the reviews....how anyone could give this album anything less than a 95 is beyond me!

Aosoth - V: The Inside Scriptures

Much better than I remember it being when it came out. Maybe beats IV for me now. Wow that is a thick sound, ritualistic in a brutal way. That drumming. Those vocals.

It's definitely a grower - I knew this instantly once I heard it years ago (perhaps ten at this point? Time flies) and it has slowly become one of my favorite USPM albums. The heavy fucking non stop riffs, Arch's arcane vocals...pure magic!

NP: ADX - Déesse Du Crime

No idea what they're singing about but man, do these riffs rule or what. Excellent speed metal! :headbang:

I'm kinda shocked about how well Amgod and Cypher are aging. lots of boring riffs, cheesy synths.. but somehow it all just works

Godkiller - Deliverance

Keeping up the industrial theme. The Synth work is really damn good

Kommodus - In the Catacombs Where Rats Reign

Great newer BM act, lots of cool riffs.
Still like the first demo a little better though.

Darkthrone - Lifeless

Like the riffage, kind of droning vibe in spots, and I can understand the vocalist. This comes across different than the early trilogy stuff I've heard.

^If you're in the right mindset, Darkthrone's "mid era" (Ravishing Grimness to Sardonic Wrath) can be really fucked up and depressing. No Satanism, no war, no face of a goat in the mirror. Just the brutal and honest misery of living.

Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name (live, Beast over Hammersmith)

Probably the best performance of their best song! Dickinson's voice is at its peak. I also like this way of playing, nowadays they play it too fast.

Iron Maiden - To Tame a Land

People who think this is a weak album are out of their minds. These are probably the best riffs they ever wrote. It's actually tough to pinpoint a weak one among their first seven.

Piece of Mind is a fantastic album. It's just "weak" compared to the rest of the first seven (honestly now that I think about it, it might still be a little better than the debut). There's just little preferences that bug me like Bruce not having the same viciousness he did on Number of the Beast, or the guitar tone not being quite as heavy as Killers (or again, as Number of the Beast), but even then it's still a fantastic record.

That's what I mean though, I think it stands up just fine with any of the others - the riffs are smoldering steel, the songs slightly more involved than a lot of their other ones with killer, acrobatic drums and tons of winding solos and parts to them, and I think Bruce sounds great. If anything Powerslave and Killers are the ones I don't play as much as the rest, but I'd be crazy to call those weaker either. I guess it comes down to differing ranking systems; I don't feel a need to denigrate one of these albums because others have different strengths.

I didn't say it doesn't stand up, of course it does. I just gave my reasoning as to why I don't rank it as high as the others from the 80s.

High On Fire- Drowning Dog

Celebrating. :np:

Rendered Helpless - Suffer, Seraphim

I think this is a tad bit better than the last one. The leads can be bland and a little annoying to me though, although they work on some songs like "Consumed by Anguish."

Megadeth- Burnt Ice

Say what you will about United Abominations, this song is golden era classic worthy!

Esoteric - Aberration

By far my favorite Funeral Doom band... no band can match this level of atmosphere and horror. Possibly the heaviest band I have ever listened to!

Maybe they were a bit more original, than many of their contestants, so they don't sound so dated.

Ironcross - Fields of Glory/Cross of Iron

Too Hot to Rock is their best album as a whole, but this is their best song.

Checking the new one which is now up for streaming and it's an absolute banger of a record. Clearly Darkthrone inspired (I was just listening to Ravishing Grimness before putting this one on and was surprised by the similarity) but with the baroque, left-field bend of Negative Plane, d-beats, crazy guitar solos and fucking cowbell aplenty. Easily the best LP I've heard this year.

Probably, also it helps that a good number of songs are pretty damn memorable! :)

Diabolicum - War Tide

The evil techno part is just brilliant, i'm just now realizing how good is this album. The lead guitarist also shreds pretty hard, it's frantic!
