Theatre of Tragedy - ...a Distance there Is....

Very beautiful ballad, almost more like an epic since it's long with multiple parts. I have fond memories listening to this and "translating it" and trying to get the story behind it. Liv Kristine's vocals are so fragile and angelic that they border on wisp like, but they go all out and make it work. Normally I like more power in female vocals.

Theatre of Tragedy - Black as the Devil Painteth

Love the lyrics of this one. Very poetic and evocative. The line "oh canvas, for thee I hold my TOOL", which is also great

Jim Kirkwood - Master of Dragons

Great dungeon synth. If only I could this stuff on vinyl for an affordable price.

Der Todesking (the 1990 German movie) soundtrack

This is some wonderfully depressing shit.

Never quite sure as what to make of this. Still somehow glad that I bought the LP, because the title track is a crusher.

The album itself is probably half-great and half filler, but the title track is one of their best songs! and they've got A LOT of great songs!

Deafheaven - Sunbather

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the problem with this band is that they're TOO black metal. This really needs some wimpy emo post-hardcore cleans and a more Dance Gavin Dance/Wolf & Bear-ish approach to the harsh vox because the black metal shriek is just kinda unintentionally hilarious as it stands next to this weird happy blackened-post-screamo instrumentation.

Talas - Sink Your Teeth Into That

Great anthemic melodic hard rock with Billy Sheehan. Their first album was really uninteresting but this second one is quite fun, feels like a combination of Uriah Heep (especially Abominog era) and Van Halen with a stronger bass presence.

To me it's maybe the mentioned song and Soldier of Fortune. Anything in between doesn't get very high points from me. Well, Gypsy is quite okay.

Orodruin - Ruins of Eternity

This should be worshipped for all eternity!

Burning Witches - Hexenhammer (2018)
Burning Witches - Dance with the Devil (2020)

Classic trad heavy / power metal from all female Swiss band. Love both and need to get the debut from 2017.

Triglathena - Crypt of the Soul

Ghastly, yet threatening...a doom/death metal band to keep an eye on.

Hyperdontia - Nexus Of Teeth LP (2018)

Great release and great art-work. If you are into old school Death Metal, a complete must have!

This morning I played Solstice - Lamentations; Iron Rainbow - Never Settle for Less than Metal; and Manowar - Hail to England

And now I'm figuring out how to unleash this pent up energy!

Soldier Of Fortune is the best Deep Purple song. There is no changing my mind!

Hawkwind - Warrior on the Edge of Time (album)

My wife got me an absolutely mint first pressing of this for my birthday. Not sure what it cost. Not thinking about it.

Love the Michael Moorcock + Hawkwind stuff - Warrior, Black Sword, Live Chronicles, it's all great !

Masked Intruder - Am I Only Dreaming?

The entire concept of this band is excessively silly, but damn, those vocal melodies are on point. Reminds me of old Lookout Records stuff.

Absolutely amazing trippy stuff, that Hawkwind era.

Mitochondrial Sun - [Mitochondrial Sun CD1 #10] The Great Filter

Niklas Sundin's "IDM/Experimental" project. At least that's the genre itunes lists it under. It's not exactly raison d'être caliber, but quite nice, especially as background music.

I listened to the Manowar album yesterday before my workout gave me the energy I needed.

Horrendous - "Golgothan Tongues"

Not a huge fan of the album - like a lot of tech death, it gets samey after a while, but this track is a standout.

Sinister - Blood-Soaked Domain

I've never really given anything beyond their first three albums a chance since I tended to hear mixed things. I randomly put on "Syncretism" since it was in my Spotify recommendations and I have nothing else to do (thanks coronavirus!). Honestly, I think it's pretty fucking good so far. Nice riffing, cool atmosphere. Might have to give their other more recent stuff a go.

Cough - A Year in Suffering

Kind of fitting in these troubled times. Some bleak and crushing stuff.

NP: Organic [The Fate of All Flesh, 2016] - 05. Kingdom of Shadows (01:01/06:05) {320 kbp/s}
It's death metal, but it tries to be King Diamond at random times with the occasional soaring clean or falsetto. It's weird

Cloven Hoof - Morning Star

This has to be up there with the albums that most encompass everything my taste is about all in 45 minutes. Smart, gutsy heavy metal.

Uriah Heep - Too Scared to Run

My next musical quest will be: get to know later day UH. Meanwhile, this song is a 100% opener.

Sulphurous - Dolorous Death Knell LP

Great newcomer from Denmark with member of Phrenelith and Hyperdontia. Vocals remind of Eternal Darkness (Swe) One of the best DM vocals i heard in a while.

TOMB MOLD - Manor Of Infinite Forms LP (2018) Cool album though the production irritates me somewhat. The (crash) cymbals have to much of a prominent place in the total mix. Never heard somebody complaining about it though.

The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely

Brilliantly amped up panorama of Americana, pop rock, etc. Love it.

My Dying Bride - The Long Black Land

Good, I still enjoy the last album more though.
Maybe some more spins is needed.
Vocals was a little better on the last one, for me at least.
Still good tasty doom riffs.

Venus Torment - Astraphobia

Guy from Ripper is responsible for this thing and it shows. This sounds slightly more melodic and instant than Experiments of Existence but still shares some of the similar crazy thrash/death metal ethics.
