First time hearing this right now, and I'm blown away. Not quite as sophisticated as Human but it more than makes up for it in terms of downright amazing riffs. This'll probably replace Human for the title of favourite Death album. :D

great album. cant get enough of it. i dont really care for death stuff past human, and this album is mainly the reason.

I just picked that up the other day. Enjoying it thus far. Heavy as fuck.

Xasthur - Untitled 5/05 (from 2005 demo)

Love that riff that comes in midway through this track. Eerie. I quite like the two tracks on this little demo. And the cover art is pretty wicked, too.

Just finished listening to Panopticon's Kentucky (finally). It's probably gonna take at least 5 more complete listens to fully comprehend what I just heard. Interesting to say the least.

The Slow Death - The Prodigal Son

Easily my favorite doom metal song of all time, bar none. Nothing else compares.

^ Great album. Same with Kentucky.

March Into The Sea - Before I Sleep

Not sure I'm liking it, the best thing about this band seems to be the name.

while i have listened to this album numerous times and appreciate it for its unique spin on the black metal genre, i just cannot get behind it. it is definitly something i think each persons needs to decide for themselves if they are in to it or not. i guess i fall in the "not" camp.

Invocator - weave the apocalypse

Holy crap, those riffs! The vocals may be a little redundant, but it by no means dampens the effect of the music.

What haters? I've never heard hate for that album.

Cattle Decapitation - Monolith of Inhumanity

Hmm, looks like this album will be getting into my top 10 this year, maybe. Loving it more and more.

this album has the merit of being the first Cattle Decapitation that I liked. it's pretty good but I feel it's being overly praised

I have heard only very little Cattle Decapitation before this one, so I can't compare it to their previous stuff, but this is very nice on its own, in my opinion.

Huge leap from first play to second - grown on me a lot. Epic, eclectic and original prog metal...cool shit.

Silence - vision

*last sold ebay listing: 800 dollars :o

I found this going through the recently sold, crazy priced listings, of some ebay seller who sold a gorement - the ending quest CD (maybe it was a differently listed CD than the one the gorement guy sold, I don't really know).
Pretty lucky that I happened upon this band. No one's ever going to tell you about crazy rare stuff like this. You have to find the really good stuff. But who spends 800 dollars on a CD though, anyway?
I gotta hear this entire album, and get it on my iPod. That'll be cool.

ISIS - Weight

Jammed with a couple buddies today and started writing a song with sort of ISIS/tool feel except more heavy like old ISIS but more progressive/complex. Made a couple bad ass bass riffs.

Before: Encoffination - O' Hell, Shine In Thy Whited Sepulchres

Think of Incantation's slower sections stretched out into a whole album with more church bell. Welcome to Encoffination. A winner in my books. There's very little speed to show off here, but just some great, slow-pounding death metal, bordering on death/doom. Would love for Encoffination to continue this sort of style on future albums. Dare I say...play even slower? That would be epic.

Now: Undergang - Til Doden Os Skiller

Ah, Undergang. A part of the recent dirty death metal revival but they manage to stand out from the pack. No, they don't do anything different, but they don't fuck around, bombarding you with riffs and killer drumming. Just as good as their first album (although that one may be just a touch better).

Encoffination have done a split with the feral, bestial beast that is Grave Upheaval too Mikey, and is great stuff.

Necros Christos - Descending into the Kingly Tomba

It has taken me quite some time to unveil the darkness within this colossal beast. The Gates and interludes can be irritating (and I hate saying that about a NC record), but with repeated listens it has yielded it's obfuscated secrets, with some astoundingly atmospheric and carefully crafted occult death/doom - with this, the closing track shining like a sickly yellow beacon in the dense, fog laden land of the dead.

*searches MA* So they have. I also see they released an EP this year that has slipped my radar. Must get!

Aggression - Viocracy

Big surprise packet for me! MoshPirit was more of a fun thrashing album with songs to drink beer to. Viocracy shows more of their serious side with a darker feel. A coming-of-age for this young Spanish thrash band. I do feel I'll be spinning this one a lot more than MoshPirit.

Emperor - The Burning Shadows of Silence

I don't normally listen to much Emperor - I can't get into it the same way I got into the other "entry-level" black metal bands. I'm enjoying the song, granted, but I still feel I'm missing the point somehow - I'd venture to say that they're overrated, if I wasn't fairly certain that the it's just me.
