Manowar - Hail and Kill

Truest song of all time? Adams really sells what they are pushing.

Kickass technical speed metal. What else could I say?

Near - The Dark Art of Death Hidden in the Castle

Classic demo, medieval style black metal. Excellent for anyone into that type of black metal.

Type O Negative - Christian Woman

They were such a unique band. Even now, there's barely anyone that sounds like this.

Bastardizer - "Bathory and Lust"

Caught this very energetic Australian band perform live the other night and this was one of the songs in their set. Though labeled as 'black thrash', the black metal element is found on their lyrical themes while the music is all out raging thrash 'n roll. I heared a lot of familiar '80s thrash riffs in a lot of their songs and I'm saying that as a compliment.

Metal Church - Damned If You Do (2018)

Solid album but nothing special and won't make my top 10.

Metallica - The Outlaw Torn

Fuck this song rules. Carried by that baseline and vocals by Hetfield. Drums are not bad either. Guitars pretty strong as well. The last truly great Metallica tune.

Dark Fortress-Venereal Dawn

This is everything Dimmu Borgir should have been, and more.

God damn, Matthias Landes is a criminally underrated drummer.

Therion - Blood of Kingu

The only thing the utter bore that is "Beyond Antichrist" makes me want to do is shut it off and listen to the perfection that is "Sirius B".

I - Shadowed Realms

Damn, can't believe I never checked this out before. Like a black metal Motorhead. Too damn expensive to buy on CD, sadly.

The Gathering - How to Measure a Planet?

Incredible album, always takes me somewhere else whenever I listen to it.

Cradle of Filth - Funeral in Carpathia

Still my favourite Cradle song after all these years, and listening through it I can proudly say I still remember every single word of the lyrics, even after years of listening to it last.

And "Shadowed Realms" has brought me to Demonaz's "March of the Norse," which I purchased. Damn, this is good stuff.

Zeal & Ardor - Built On Ashes

I snagged tickets to the Deafheaven / Baroness tour, and decided to check the openers out. There is a lot to digest here, but I am mostly digging it. When I read about the genres mixed, I thought it'd be gimmicky as hell. Maybe some people find it to be, but I like it so far.

At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul

yeah I'm a newb to the genre and late to the party, I get it

Anyway, this really really drives home the fact that riffs alone cannot carry an album. The riffs are nice, yes, but the fact that basically every single song possesses the same structure means it all just blends together. Perhaps with more listens, I'll distinguish each song more, but for now it's like, listen to Blinded By Fear and woah, you've already heard the whole album.

Conception - In Your Multitude

God the title track is beautiful. What an album. Shame I can't find it for any good price anywhere.

It's the only good song they ever did, but it's a great song and it came at just the right time to captivate the metal scene.

Esoteric - NOXBC9701040

One of the creepiest instrumentals I have ever listened to from one of the best Doom Metal albums ever.

Metallica - AJFA demos (from the box set)

Been listening to the riff tapes and demos. I often find that a band will nail a vibe or intensity on the initial writing/demo stage for an album that they don't quite capture in the studio environment; certainly this is supporting that claim. Metallica seem to benefit from this more than most, at least with regard to their 80s material.

This box set is magnificent so far: book with loads of interviews and photos, Seattle 89 show, a bunch of other live CDs and DVDs, all the riff writing sessions, rough mixes etc.

I found a good copy on Ebay from a guy in Germany and it cost me 35 bucks. Still worth it.

I find it fascinating that the best riff on the album, the main riff to Blackened, was written by Newsted. Took a long time to completely run out of Mustaine riffs.

Blind Guardian - Damned for All Time

I was Elric! I'll be Corum! I'm the prince of the south ice!

What a fun song. I just love the raw enthusiasm you hear in their early albums.

That's too expensive for me to spend on one CD really, unfortunately.

Depeche Mode - Songs of Faith and Devotion

Great for a gloomy December day.

Bleed From Within - Era

The second song of this album is quite good and then for like three songs BFW forgets that they're a melodic metalcore band and just create this awful downtuned borderline nu-metal. Also the vocals are just...not good. They sound too nu-metal in that they sound almost...poser-ish. It's hard to put it into words. I just don't get the feeling of aggression from them, more someone feigning aggression but too chicken to actually embody it.

Myrath - Dance

Pretty similar to "Believer" in terms of sound. It's fun, I like it, though I think I prefer "Believer". Stoked for the new album, though.

Avantasia - The Raven Child

This is a really astounding piece of music. The lyric video really brings out the clarity and detail in how it builds - super good shit.
