Sort Vokter - Grålysning

Was talking about Ildjarn earlier, so I decided to put Folkloric Necro Metal on. And it hasn't lost any of its magic! Very primeval, feral stuff. Now I just want to go out and wander in the woods, though its -20 C around here.

Manilla Road - Frost and Fire

I haven't given much attention to later MR, so I decided to change that today. Holy fuck, so grandiose and epic... But all of the material from Atlantis Rising onward really requires your full attention when listening, otherwise you end up missing so much.

One Man Army and the Undead Quartet - all four albums

A bit of a salute and a sendoff now that the band's been officially declared done recently. Not surprisingly, they operated in a similar melodic death/thrash fashion as The Crown with some killer riffs and songs in their own right. Perhaps not as visceral as Johan's once-former and now-current band, but there's a sense of rockin' fun and an almost playfulness to be found as if they never allowed themselves to be taken too seriously. The production oddly varies a bit from album to album with debut 21st Century Killing Machine having arguably their best and the followup Error in Evolution sounding strangely neutered, at least in the guitars, but not to the detriment of the songs themselves. All in all, they served as a nice filler band during The Crown's hiatus and gave Lindstrand a vehicle to stay busy with. A more welcomed case of a lead vocalist's vision serving the music beneficially rather than hindering it with awkward experimentation - ie. The Haunted.

I have Spiral Castle on vinyl but despite multiple attempts at trying to get into it, it just really leaves me bored and uninterested. Haven't listened to any other later MR though, so perhaps one of the other albums will change my mind.

NP: G.I.S.M. - M.A.N.

Those soaring heavy metal riffs, man.

Agent Steel - Ten Fists of Nations, off Order of the Illuminati

Bruce Hall is such an underrated singer, and this track in itself is massively underrated in Agent Steel's catalogue. It has a colossal flavor that you usually don't get from AS.

Listening to the entire Smiths discography for the trillionth time today. They always make my work days brighter.

The Smiths - There Is a Light That Never Goes Out

Perfection. Probably my favorite song ever.

They may not be for you at all. But they're sort of an acquired taste and actively trying to get into them won't help...if they end up being up your alley, it'll just be something you feel, and it will click into place like magic.

Dream Theater - Misunderstood

This song is misunderstood. I find myself finally appreciating it now after not really taking to it the first few listens.

Anthem - Shadow Walk

Sounds a bit rawer than their recent material that I've heard. Not bad at all though - I like the tasty midpaced riffing going on here.
