Quorthon - Album

Currently listening to the song Boy, one of the best here. I listen this every now and then, and enjoy.

The solo albums is the only material made by Quorthon that i've still never heard.
the genre tag, the mixed reception and the fact i'm not sure if his vocals would work in a rock context have been keeping me away from them for a long time. I should try someday

Windir - Ætti Morkna

After an initial lukewarm reception i'm starting to like their material more

The last album is probably the weakest one, but this song is really good. Oddly enough, their harmonies remind me a bit of the ones used by alpine choirs

You probably should. Not the best by any means, and Purity of Essence is hopelessly too long. But some good stuff there.

Pink Floyd - The Wall

First time listening, hah. Didn't even knew I had this.

Yeah, there are some hidden gems spread across the two records, for sure.

I agree that it's the last one is sadly their weakest as well. Fagning is the only one I listen to consistently.

Speaking of Windir...

Windir - Svartesmeden og Lyndamyrstrollet

This is the song that pretty much sums up their sound. The lead guitar never stops, it's just melody after melody.

Their neverending, circular melodies are the main cause of both my love/hate for them: sometimes i'm totally enthralled, sometimes totally annoyed. The times i'm annoyed are getting lower tough :)

Angra - Rainy Nights

One of my favorite songs off Fireworks is a bonus track.

I'm not a huge Tool fan by any stretch of the imagination, so I'm not the best judge, but yeah, this entire record just sounds like outtakes from their last couple.

Downloading.

Just got back home after 3 weeks trip driving across Europe. Highlights:
(1998) Morbid Angel - Formulas Fatal to the Flesh, (2005) Shining - IV - The Eerie Cold and (1999) Nokturnal Mortum - NeChrist.

Fuck this is a great cut and a great record. Thank Lemmy James had realized that writing thrash was not what he was about at this point and wrote an honest album. Love the groove on this during the chorus. Thick and heavy. Jason killed it on this album.

Load is a good album. Lots of rock-n-roll gems on there.

The Protomen - Hold Back the Night

Now this is pretty smooth. Kind of weaves between conventional rock and metal. Good stuff.

Nah! It was bloated, alcoholic bollox then - it's bloated alcoholic nonsense now. The record is complete and utter rubbish. AIC records from the era makes it sound even more piss-poor. 25 years of being complete shite and still counting.

^ Eh it's overlong but has some kick ass songs.

Tarot - Howl

God this fucking kills. My favorite subset of metal will always just be huge, fat riffs and powerful clean vocals. General but some bands just hit like 10,000 volts.

Stygma IV - Bleeding Within

Long-winded, but undoubtedly masterfully crafted. This singer was such a talent and the riffs are fucking solid slabs of classic-styled material. I love this old style of PM.

Cradle of Filth - Beneath the Howling Stars

Well, now that the remaster is officially actually coming out, I'm curious as to how it sounds. Not sure if I'll buy it, but I'll probably at least give it a go on Spotify. Also, this is one of my favorite COF songs

Lacrimas Profundere - The Gesture of the Gist

This sounds more refined than their debut...I'll probably end up liking it more, too. Funny how this doom/death/gothic metal stuff was either very good or pure crap.

What is your take on Fixxxer? I actually like it more than Outlaw, but they are CLOSE.

Just finished listening to the new Lana Del Rey record. It might be a little too long, but there are some fantastic songs on it.

Funny that, been listening to 'The Outlaw Torn' too. Clearly this album isn't for everyone but goddamn. This song is a massive, drawn out atmospheric epic, easily the best song on the album.

Yeah. So much of the record ties together and this is Hetfield finding some hope at the end. Its a dark record when you really look at it. Not shreddy but love Kirk's guitarwork on it and Jason's bass is fucking massive.

:np: Metallica - Fixxer

Fixxer is a strong tune but a cut below Outlaw for me.

I also find this at the end of Fixxxer with the whole "can't you heal what father's done" / "no more pins in me" lines.

I've been playing the new Imperium Dekadnez album on repeat for a day now. Love that drum tone a whole bunch.

There are some middle-ground albums but from my experience those are pretty rare actually. The early outputs of November's Doom, Pyogenesis and Morgion fall into that category I guess.

NP: Anathema - Cries on the Wind

Compared to The Silent Enigma this comes off a lot more focused. The vocals have improved quite a bit, too. Not bad at all.

I am not as familiar with D&W as I should be, especially considering that I'm seeing the twice in the next 8 days (tomorrow night in Toronto, and then the following Saturday at ProgPower).

This song is somewhat similar to Journey to the End and Fagning. I like these three songs the most.

Since we are talking about Windir, I've been greatly enjoying the song Norrøn Seier from their demo. It's instrumental, simple and doesn't really sound like black metal, but there's something that makes me relisten it again and again.

Motörhead - Ace Of Spades

You can see why this song is the most popular Motörhead song, near 3 minutes of headbanging speed metal, i feel the albums actually quite underrated, on here atleast, it's just non stop headbanging fast paced hard rock/heavy metal

Edguy - Navigator

Hellfire Club was an early sign of Tobi's ambitions with the orchestral stuff and all. Plus it's full of fucking killer riffs. He's great at putting the pedal to the metal when he does that.

Tied with Vain Glory for my favourite Edguy record. That excellent tail on the end of the second verse where Tobi shrieks "Pride goes before the fall" sends shivers down my spine every time.
