The Lord Weird Slough Feg - Walls of Shame

This has to be one of the catchiest heavy metal songs of all time. So much fun to sing along to.

Chapters isn't my favorite of theirs (that would be either the debut or Northwind), but "Decadence of Dignity" is very much a standout track.

I'm surprised, I always thought Decadence was filler, along with We Sold Our Homesteads.

For Life and Liberty on the other hand, THAT is the standout track on CFAVF.

I still maintain that the atmosphere of this album wouldn't be the same without Attila's bizarre vocals. I know he's pretty polarizing but I'm on the "love it" side of the equation.

Exactly! I love Attila's haunting vocals and mysterious whispers on DMDS - my favorite bm album ever.

NP:
Mgła - Exercises In Futility

Time to refresh a winner in the best album of the decade poll.

The Chasm - In Superior Torment

Such an underrated song from these guys. Daniel Corchado's melancholic guitarwork is the biggest highlight here. His playing is so original and distinct from any other death metal band out there.

AntropomorphiA - "The Carnal Pit"

Death metal that opens with a cool bass riff is always an auspicious sign. The toms also sound really great for metal of the time. Actually, better than a great deal of the sterile triggered ones since then as well.

Pain of Salvation - Entropia

This was always such a sprawling, expansive piece of music. Gildenlow has a real sense of drama. Very rich singer.

Nephastus - Depressive Dementia

Normally I don't care about worship bands/albums, but god damn if this isn't a fine copy of Sepultura's Schizophrenia; it features the semi hollow-production, obscure gritty vocals and a huge love for good ol' thrash riffs.

Kirka - You Put the Spell On Me

Probably the best heavy metal voice our country has ever had. This song is in the vein of Final Countdown - but BETTER. Nice to play the old LP again.

I forgot that U2 used to make great awesome songs in the '80s.

Nattfog - Yön varjoista...

Great folky melodies.
Typical finnish sounding also.

Iron Maiden - A Matter...

This is much better than I remembered. These Colours Don't Run is a new fave. The Pilgrim rules too.

Pain of Salvation - Inside

Oh wow, this is something special, I can already tell. Sounds really dark and anguished. Interesting lyrical direction too.

This is spinning me the fuck out - really psychedelic, weird shit.

Wormrot - Fallen Into Disuse

Well, I'm listening to the entire "voices" record because It's over basically as soon as it starts.

I'm not particularly into that specific song, and I'm rarely interested in listening to entire albums of theirs, but there were indeed some great tracks in that era. "Sunday Bloody Sunday", for example.

Krallice - Krallice

I rarely listen to bm, but this is so good. The tremolo riffs are godly and the technicality really helps support the great atmosphere. I could listen to 'Cnestorial' on loop for hours.

Here's some recommendations on some great U2 tunes from the '80s:

Gloria
I Will Follow
New Year's Day
Pride (In the Name of Love)
The Unforgettable Fire
Bad
Love Comes Tumbling
All I Want is You
With or Without You
Desire

Anathema - Restless Oblivion

Eight minutes of utter hopelessness and despair. Such a shame Anathema never tried to create a more consistent successor to this record.

Obscura - Ten Sepiroth

Tech-death with superb songwriting and usage of atmospheric sections. Curious as to what direction Steffen is taking the band now that most of the "classic" era lineup is back.

Excalion - Trust

This is probably one of their best songs ever. That chorus - hot damn. That's how you open up a PM album.

Oh yeah, what I've read of their lyrics are very well done too.

Pain of Salvation - Nightmist

This is fairly straightforward compared to the labyrinthine weirdness of the second album, but it's real cathartic and powerful.

Ok speed metal. Started off pretty strong but got more samey and mediocre as the album went along.

Intestine Baalism style melodic death metal with lyrical themes covering Native American lore. Incredibly underrated band!

Idle Hands - Puppy Love

This track leans more towards their gothic rock influences than metal, and that's perfectly fine, because it's great. "Don't Waste Your Time II" is a nice little EP.

Dream Theater - The Gift of Music

This album is way too long to play with any regularity, but I still think it's actually the most inspired they've sounded in years. I hadn't really liked any of the other newer Mangini albums and don't like the most recent one very much either. But the actual songs on this have some vibrant performances and James sounds great.
