Come on guys, this shit is too fun.

IXAXAAR NEXIA

New band in the Toronto underground. For fans of the violent, diabolical, maniacal and utterly psychotic side of black/death metal. FFO Adversarial, old Leviathan, Mitochondrion, or generally anything released on Dark Descent - take heed!

Uriah Heep - Sunrise

The song has power and spirit.

Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done

Just getting to know this. Nice melodies, and all. Not at all into this kind of metal, but maybe it'll change with DD.

Sonata Arctica - Caleb

One of their better post-Reckoning Night tracks, it has the magic of early Sonata still alive

Striborg - A Lonely Walk in a Desolate Cold Pine Forest

More forest roaming earlier today, so more Striborg on the stereo now!
Love the creepy synth.

Leeches of Lore - Motel of Infinity

This is great. Sort of a poppier, lighter take on the sound from Frenzy, Ecstasy but both are the same kind of insane quality. Love the garagey, groovy guitar riffs and the loose Western atmosphere.

Gamma Ray were still on their winning streak with 'Land of the Free II', if you ask me.

It has energy, songs, good vibes, just awesome balls-to-the-wall power metal! Visiting this and 'To the Metal!' today... The latter had only half of its songs good. 'Empire of the Undead' was better again.

I WISH TO HEAR ANOTHER GAMMA RAY ALBUM!

Icarus Witch - Goodbye Cruel World

This has a great couple of opening songs, but the second half isn't quite as strong. I like what they're doing now though. Better than the lame last album. I hope they keep going - new singer is killer.

Well this was a surprise. I always liked HFs stuff but this new album has toned down the Viking folk influence compared to their older stuff. Not a bad album by any means but I guess I was listening to Inner Force(their best album) so many times and just assumed they would keep that sound.

I liked the new album a lot. The fact that is purely in German is interesting as well. I agree with the fact that the viking vibe ist not so present, but it wasn't a problem for me, it's just a different album and it sounds heavier in my opinion.

You're completely right with Inner Force being their best, I love that one, I even have my copy on CD. Songs like "Wahrheit", "Weisheitskrieg" and "Wizard's Life" are outstanding. Great lyrics as well.

By the way, if you like HF, I recommend you Alphayn, which was Robert Schroll's other band, until he left. But he sings in both albums.

Slowly but surely making my way through Mekong Delta's discography, currently listening to Kaleidoscope. I believe Ambien takes this band to fall asleep.

The one an only Manilla Road

I live in a pretty rural area, am out of work due to covid-19, so I've spent a lot of time listening to discographies in chronological order. Perhaps it's been an unconscious means of attempting to add structure to my daily life. In any case, this morning I'm on one of my favorites: Open the Gates.

"The Shark"'s riffs on this record are so full of power, definitely a highlight of the band's massive catalog.

I'm re-listening to the Scott Walker & Sunn O))) album, "Soused" for the first time in years. I actually think I like it even more now.

The Misfits - Helena

Hot take; I actually prefer Michaele Graves to Danzig when it comes to Misfits material, and Famous Monsters pretty much cemented it for me. Really enjoyable album to me, moreso than American Psycho if I'm honest

Iron Maiden - Sea of Madness

It's very easy to see where early Dream Theater came from when you listen to a song like this.

Great song.
Graveland did so much good in the past.
I also enjoy the newer stuff though.

Haunt - Mind Freeze

For a Bandcamp-tier release this is somewhat enjoyable. I really like their synth gimmick, but the vocals are disappointing; though I'm sure some might find them endearing and quaint.

Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize

The masterpiece of Porcupine Tree's discography, and before his solo material, I'd say the finest piece of music Steven Wilson ever wrote.

Chief keef - Citgo

Great fucking song really, has a great hook and interesting melody in the background, a real gem

Nuclear death - Bride of insect

Of course, a great fucking album with lots of almost thrashy sounding riffs to me, I'll probably always preger carrion, but this is nothing to scoff at either.

The guitars on here are to die for; just gloriously groovy and acrobatic and melodious. So damn good. Somewhere between 70s Priest and early Maiden. Vocals are rough but not bad at all. Liking this a lot.

I'm am LOVING this album immensely!! How's their follow up album Circle of Shame? Does it come even close to the quality of the debut?

I only played it once around the time I made that post but it was also pretty cool - maybe not as good as that one but fun. I should try it again soon. Thanks for the reminder. Try Claws of Steel and Hell & Fury sometime soon too.

Neurosis - The Time of the Beasts

Man I really put off checking out this band way too long. Monolithic intensity and atmosphere on display here. The violins on this tune really push it over the edge.
