Ace Frehley - Anomaly

Love it! It would be a stronger album, though, if he'd kept it shorter by leaving a few weaker tracks off. (Maybe a 10 track length instead of 12, say). But his cover of "Fox On the Run" is fun as hell, and "It's a Great Life" is now one of my favorite songs of his! :-D

Outer Heaven - Into Hellfire

Nasty, gross ass death/doom. Exactly as it should be.

Unbirth - Fleshforged Columns of Deceit

I'm on a tech death kick. You can hear Cryptopsy and some Suffocation influence within their music.

Diffuse Horizons - Synthetic Thoughts (on bandcamp)

Tech death to cleanse my ears after the latest Dark Moor album (I should have known better than listen to that).

Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky

I think I'm finally opened up enough to what they are doing. This isn't simplistic despite being raw. :hail:

One of my favorites of theirs.

Evergrey - The Atlantic

Still not really blowing me away - a bit too mopey and dreary to be fully captivating for me - but I like it more than their old stuff. Some very nice, sophisticated melodies on this and Tom sounds very good; evocative and deep.

edit: Yeah, second half's not really doing anything for me - too much of the same tempo and pacing and tone tends to become a slog.

Goatwhore - My Name is Frightful Among the Believers

Smoking blackened metal. Or is this full on black metal? Both times I saw them live it was like a bomb of asskicking going off.

Idle Hands - Give Me to the Night

Fucking glorious. Massive atmosphere, undeniable hooks.

Finntroll - Nifelvind

This is turning out to be my favorite Finntroll album. Nicely blackened stuff.

Firmament - A Dying Angel's Tear

Beautiful ambient black metal. The midsection sounds almost like Lustre, very tranquil and mellow.

Velimor - Волчьему - волчье, овцам - овечье (Wolfish to the Wolf, Sheepish to the Sheep)

Great (Pagan?) Black metal from russia.
When the flutes kick in I just smile.
I'm really into flutes tonight :P

Belenos - Errances Oniriques

Solid, folky black metal. I never really hear about these guys in regards to the French black metal scene.

Chapel of Disease - Song of the Gods

Liking what I'm hearing but some of it is a little too dragging and mid-paced for me. If you're going to work in the mid-pace you better have some real memorable riffs.

The Book of Mormon musical soundtrack, "Making Things Up" specifically. As someone that was unfortunately raised in the LDS church, I think of this as probably the most hilarious musical in existence.

Deathwish - At the Edge of Damnation

Biggest thing that stands out is the vocals and some neat as shit guitar work. Brit thrash really did produce some gems.

Avantasia - Starlight

I actually like this song a lot... a sweet little Helloween-styled pop metal tune and Atkins fucking kills.

Marduk - Temple of Decay

What other Marduk records are this varied in tempo? I thought it was all Panzer Division Marduk and boy was I wrong.

In Flames - The Jester Race

Man, I love this song, and I can't get enough of this album lately. As far as 'Dead Eternity' and 'Dead God in Me' go, though, I do prefer the earlier versions, where the latter was called 'The Inborn Lifeless'. The vocals and arrangement of the former were better, especially.

Virvum - II: A Final Warming Shine - Ascension and Trespassing

Strangely uplifting vibe on this insane album. Possibly my favorite tech-death I’ve heard yet.

Marduk - World of Blades

Fuck this record just keeps kicking ass. I have a feeling more Marduk albums are going to be coming home with me.

Usurper - Blood Passion

God this guitar tone sounds like it was forged from just fucking filthy, rusted steel and dirt and grit. Writing's so damn savage too.

Irgalom - When The Strong Men Stoop

Irgalom is one of the handful of solo projects from a rather prolific Hungarian fella who also runs Abran Records. I dig it and look forward to picking up Irgalom's other material. I particularly like the biblical lyrics.

Quartz - Charlie Snow

Stand Up and Fight is such a good album. As far as I understand the message of this song, doing coke is harmless and fun! Great days they must've been.
