"Squirrel listens to Sloth. U listen to Sloth."

It's the newest release from Sloth. It just came out today. It's great! Much like a squirrel, it's just endless static fuzz. People are wondering what this weird static noise is coming from the upstairs office, and I'm all like, "It's the new Sloth release." So anyway, I heard Sloth is about to come out with a new single tomorrow. I can't wait to hear it.

Lunar Shadow - Roses

Real interesting gloomier take on trad/epic metal. Their first album was interesting as hell and this sounds very good too.

King Diamond - Arrival

I almost totally skipped over traditional / heavy metal back in the day, diving into groove, thrash, and death instead. Glad I eventually reconsidered that.

Ihsahn - Unhealer

Akerfeldt makes super qualitative guest appearance here. So powerful vocals by them both clean and harsh. Great album btw.

The Samans - My Exodus

Been into some Oriental/Asian metal mood and this fits as well... this song has some smooth aquatic sound to it. The vocals, as awesome as they are, sound like Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget.

Skelator - Cyber Metal

This album is quite fun. I guess I would consider this US power metal, but at times it sounds more like straightforward speed metal or something.

I found their album from last year rather underwhelming, but perhaps I should check out their older stuff.

Slayer - War Ensemble

Thing I never noticed until very recently: In the first half of each chorus in this song (the “Sport the war, War support” parts), the first, third, fifth, and seventh beat of each measure has the sound of marching soldiers added underneath the snare hits.

Nice little Easter egg, I guess.

Megadeth-Rattlehead :metal:

This is the 2018 Final kill mix. I dig it. I always enjoyed the remix/master from the 2000s more than the original because I always thought the original was just thin sounding. This mix certainly sounds better with some more punchier bass.

Kryptos - Afterburner.

Really killer stuff from India. Traditional heavy/speed metal a la Judas Priest or Accept but with forceful, venomous vocals like those of Tom G. Warrior or Ron Royce. I liked Kryptos' previous stuff that I've heard, and this one may be the punchiest, catchiest and most direct album to date; an AOTY contender for sure.

Idle Hands - Jackie

This was hyped to high heaven. If it keeps up with this level of catchiness and quality, then it will be justified.

EDIT: Aaaaand just finished it. One or two tracks were pretty weak and forgettable ("Dragon" and "Don't Waste Your Time"), but everything else was fuckin' rad.

It's fucking great all right!

This track has been on repeat for the past two days or two. Cannot get that chorus out of my head. Interesting lyrics too.

The whole album feels really fresh, their take on traditional metal combined with smooth Dissection touches and gloomy post-punk atmosphere really hits the spot. Album of the year candidate for me.

Riot- Johnny's Back

First time listening to Thundersteel. I should be loving this album. But it seems like its only in the 80s range to me.

The way they do piano ballad stuff as well as hard-hitting thrash is right up my alley. Super talented act.

The Raconteurs - Help Us Stranger

Have to admit, it's growing on me... wasn't too enthralled at first but this is rock solid, if slightly familiar for a Jack White release.

Vox blend in sufficiently, and Modern Life Architecture has some punishing low end. Not doing much for me but I dig Keeper of the Ledge.

Budgie- The Author

The songs on the s/t are amazing, but the production is way too quiet and it kinda sucks. No matter if you import this thing on Mono or Stereo it seems like there's always something missing. Of the two I've heard Never Turn Your Back on a Friend had a way better sound.

Bloody Hammers - Let Sleeping Corpses Lie

Just started this record. Holy hell, this is catchy and fucking FUN. Would really benefit from some real drums? I can't tell for sure, but those are either VERY over produced, or they are fake.
