Smoulder - Sword Woman

These guys really know how to thug out the massive fucking riffs. Pretty legit stuff.

Dyscarnate - Backbreaker

Guys. How in the actual fuck did I manage NOT to hear this album last year!? Holy christ, this is just 40 minutes of unrelenting riff-crushing. I've been looking for something similar to Hateform and Feared, and I can't honestly say this is really all that similar at all, but this is the EXACT sort of production/riff/aggression mix I was looking for, only there is absolutely zero thrash. The vocal style is straight up my alley, too. That meaty, and powerful lower end growl, and high-register but still thick and angry screech. I haven't bobbed my head this hard to anything in a long while.

Well, I reckon there's a pretty good chance it'll be about gory tits.

Varkan - Nocturnal Pollutions

Pretty decent power metal. Reminds me a bit of Manticora, with female vocals. However, I think the best song on the record is "The Wound Never Heals"

Darkthrone - Canadian Metal

Really cool, I always enjoy the Fenriz songs the best.

Now listening to FLESHTIZED "Divide and Conquer" MCD (2000).
Great bass guitar lines!

Black Sabbath - The Sign of the Southern Cross

Epic song!
Love the BS albums with Dio.

Bartushka - Hospodi

Not even factoring in the scummy moves behind this album, it's shaping up to be boring as shit so far. The nominal successor it may turn out to be but in practice... not even close.

Dominus - View to the Dim

I'm absolutely convinced this guitar tone could destroy the walls of my room if I'd play this loud enough - this is some cool death metal stuff; the riffs recall Bolt Thrower but the songwriting appears to be a bit more epic and expanded.

One of KD's best songs, it's sooo epic!

Last Crack - The Up Rising (2019): My favorite album of the year so far that isn't abysmal black/death metal. Very impressive considering there was a 30 year gap between this one and their previous release - Buddo hasn't aged a day.

NP: Uncanny - Screaming in Phobia

Took me a long time to appreciate this album, but better late than never I suppose.

Immortal - Years of Silent Sorrow

The "best BM albums" poll made me revisit this, as it got nr. 10. It's pretty good. People talk about the thrash influences, but it's definitely the more epic-tinged stuff that Metallica did on Ride the Lightning, than the black thrash of Aura Noir and the like.

Antimatter - God is Coming

Man, Antimatter used to be such a great dark / trip-hop / goth project. The first two records are fantastic. Whoever decided "we should just be fucking Staind", I'm very upset @ u.

Quorthon - Purity of Essence

Not perhaps good enough buy a 2LP version of this, but oh well... Some songs here are good, and the guitars sound fine. Always loved his singing.

No Use for a Name - Until It's Gone

Can't believe it's been almost 7 years since Tony Sly passed. One of my favorite punk bands as a teenager and still one of my favorite punk bands today.

Idle Hands - Don't Waste Your Time

This is definitely a standout on the album - they should lean more into the slow, atmospheric stuff for sure. Would love to see 'em try some more epic ambitious stuff.

Mi'Gauss - Open Fire

Pretty fucking cool death metal - definite Chasm vibes... nice raw production and cool rolling, galloping guitars.

Revenge Scum.Collapse.Eradication
You know how on Lost when it starts to rain something bad is about to happen or when Al Swearington starts drinking straight from the bottle on Deadwood someone is about to get his throat cut?
Well, when I listen to these goofy Canooks...

Germans punks listen mostly to German-language punk over English-language punk not because of the language barrier, because the music is ten times better:

Superb live thrash from Germany that makes you wish you had been there.
