Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard - "The Master and His Emissary" (from the split with Slomatics)

Incredible psych-doom-sludgy goodness as anyone who knows them.. well knows.

The fun story ? I missed this LP when it was released due to "cash flow issues" - It's now sold out completely. HOWEVER this weekend I found a copy in a town in the UK I was passing through, on my way to watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix. The man in the record shop was even an Ozzy-glasses & perm stereotype, right down to "awww DUDE I love this stoner stuff !"

Amazing times :D

Llafineve - Shelter

Good death metal influenced by Extol, Schaliach, Vardoger, etc. I would love to see a full length album made instead of just a single here or there.

Power Quest - Neverworld

Finally tracked down my own CD copy in wonderful condition and I am a very happy boyo. This is easily my favorite power metal record and probably one of my all-time favorite albums in general.

Also, not a "now playing" but a "has been playing constantly for the past 3 months because they're now my favorite freakin band":

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - just about all of their albums

So amazing. All of it. Who else is excited for their upcoming metal album? Woot woot.

Ancient "Svartalvheim"

Their only really good album. I have first press ond cd and i like it, but the next albums are ridiculous and pathetic. What a shame.

I'd have to agree and disagree. The Cainian Chronicle is am amazing album, but what came after that is indeed ridiculous and pathetic.

NP: Cradle of Filth - Midian

Probably my favorite Cradle album. It's built really well, the music is great, and the lyrics are awesome- even more than usual.

The Ruins of Beverast - Exuvia

Harrowing and expansive. He really pulls in a lot of stuff and makes these churning, huge, apocalyptic epics. Love the tribal aesthetic and little weird touches on this album.

Bathory - Nordland II

Maybe SLIGHTLY inferior to the first Nordland. Not much though, but the first album had songs like Nordland, Ring of Gold, Foreverdark Woods. The last song is a triumphant way to go out, though it was probably not meant to be such.

Demigod - The Forlorn

I'm not really into Finnish death metal much but this album is pretty fun. Massive yet slightly unorthodox sounding.

Invoker - Church of Devil´s Worship

Old BM from Brazil, very primitive and raw but with an evil atmosphere...!

Morgion - Ebb Tide (Parts 1 & 2)

I'm yet to come across an album with comparable atmosphere to Cloaked By Ages, Crowned In Earth.

Circus Maximus - The 1st Chapter

Out of all the cheesy Dream Theater and/or Nevermore clones that swept through Europe in the mid-2000's, I've always found this one to be the most palatable. The vocals are absolutely gorgeous, but I can do without all these 20 minute conceptual pieces that all progressive metal bands seem to want to shoehorn into their bloated, overproduced albums.

Kamelot - The Fourth Legacy

You know, they could probably play this song live with Tommy and pull it off. They could probably play a lot of songs from the album itself and pull them off. They unfortunately don't. This also just reminds me of how underwhelming "The Shadow Theory" is and I almost want to lower the rating I gave it on here, though "Vespertine (My Crimson Bride)" is a definite banger (more like that in the future, guys).

The Shadow Theory is so bad. Just stick with Silverthorn and the old Khan albums I say. No reason to tolerate watered down crap. I listen to Epica or Black Halo and I can hardly believe TST is the same band as on those classics.

Arch/Matheos - Winter Ethereal

Just still so damn mindblowing, even months later. I can't see anything beating this for album of the year yet.

Batushka - Hospodi

It's been like three minutes and fucking nothing has happened so I'm sure this will be great...

edit: sounds dull and pretty lame, but not terribly much worse than what I remember the original Batushka album with the whole band sounding like, i.e. passable but middling. This is probably worse but I wouldn't say I'm heartbroken or whatever.

Interesting. Dunno, Litourgiya was flawed - perhaps a tad one-dimensional but man that effort from Bart was astonishingly poorly written. The songs barely feel like songs.

Yeah, this new Hospodi thing is a bunch of boring nonsense, but I just never thought the Litourgiya album was anything particularly special either. I suppose being invested in the whole band drama may also make a difference. I guess even the stuff people liked just wasn't my type of black metal.

I've not been following the drama all that closely (I only really started paying attention when the first single for Hospodi came out), but honestly the album annoys me like The Forest Seasons did. Both are cash-grabs that really do sound totally lazy and effortless. Litourgiya wasn't everyone's cup of tea for sure though, even I've cooled off on it a bit since I first heard it.

Thunder & Lightning - Demonicorn

The title is so stupid that I wasn't sure I wanted to hear this, but it's better than most of their last album so far. More energized for sure.

Iced Earth - The Suffering Scarred

Not my favorite album by a band that I am not a huge fan of but I'll spin them every now and then. OK tune. Stock IE riffage and songwriting.

Angra - Arising Thunder

Still an arresting listen. Edu's voice is so charismatic and the writing is speedy and yet has depth.

^I should revisit that album. It's got all the right elements but somehow I'm always underwhelmed when I listen to it. It's been a while though.

Iron Maiden - Face In The Sand

This song is pretty cool and totally underrated IMO.

This one, Rebirth and Aurora Consurgens are the Angra albums I primarily care about. They got some other good stuff but I usually go back to those albums if I'm in the mood for them - I like them best with the more dense, slightly prog songwriting and Falaschi's sort of Brazilian Bruce Dickinson tones. I should give their later albums a try but I haven't liked what I heard at all.

Gotcha. Their first two will always be my favorites though I actually really dig their newest two albums as well. They're not as unique but they're solid, catchy, well made, and enjoyable power metal IMO.
