Annica - Badly Dreaming

Good hard rock, a long time favourite. I remember those long and lonely nights dreaming to meet someone like Annica. :)

Just checking out the new Russian Circles album. I always think they put out quality things, but sometimes they take a while to stick (as with most post-rock/metal/instrumental stuff for me)

Same. I think that's a fairly widely held view, actually.

Oh hell yeah. The album makes for some great ASMR :-D

Rammstein - Mein Herz Brennt

Still love the Mutter album after all this time. Has great groove and great energy.

Marilyn Manson - Heaven Upside Down

First time I've ever really listened to his albums. This had a few good songs and also some really annoying shit. "Saturnalia" was far and away the standout.

I hear so many people say Sensucht is the best, but Mutter is by far my favorite. Mixes the classic tanz metal sound with some much-needed variation and surprisingly epic cuts. "Zwitter" is an overlooked classic.

Incidentally, their newest album is really boring and I don't get the hype for it at all.

Some Wacken vids on YouTube have me revisiting this record. Good stuff if not quite up to Tales standards.

Oh hey, I just picked up a new copy of that album since I lost mine a few years ago. Probably one of my favorite metal albums for long summer drives.

...I feel kind of weird commenting on two NPs in rapid succession despite not actually listening to anything right now. Welp.

Been reading Choosing Death: The Improbable History of Death Metal and Grindcore and listened to Pestilence's "Hatred Within". No wonder they got highlighted about a hundred pages in. I know this recording is later in the years but man this track surely shows that they were trying to out-scream 'Scream Bloody Gore': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbAbvmvRIQk

Also, just looking through their discography, they have a track called "Extreme Unction" released in 1988 whereas Necrophagist made a track called "Extreme Unction" in 1999. Anyone know more about whether this more than coincidence or a bigger callback or nod to Pestilence by the later band?

One of those albums perfectly represented by the cover artwork. Minimalism at its finest.

Death - Zombie Ritual

Picked this up at the library. Good times. Filthy and savage shit - ultra-classic.

Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way to Blue

Possibly the greatest comeback metal will ever see. Truly rousing and captivating; the best thing the band have ever done.

I think it's great except for the few songs near the end that came off a bit filler-ish, before the final two got the quality back. I want them to do a whole album as good as "Last Of My Kind." That is a killer fucking song.

Twenty-One Pilots - s/t

Engaging, weird stuff. They have a feel for ultra-grand melodies. I dig it.

Dismember - Case # Obscene

I used to think this album sounded rather watered down compared to Like an Everflowing Stream but shit, nowadays this is pretty much as good to me. This typical Swedish aggression rarely disappoints.

Amorphis - Magic and Mayhem

I love the hectic keyboardy parts of this.

Only got to see Amorphis once, at Wacken 2013 and half their set was acoustic and I was a bit dissapointed. I hope I get another shot.

Interesting. I think the two songs in question serve to give the album a bit more variety, being the most melodic and laid back on the album. I find them to be some of the catchiest ones there, and I think they function as a nice breather between the numerous massive tracks the band had delivered before them like the first three songs, 'A Looking in View' and 'Acid Bubble', and the two songs that follow them.

With you on the those last two songs; 'Private Hell' might be my favourite track from them.

Crimson Glory - Red Sharks

You forget how fucking amazing this album is. Such precise performances and power. I had a sinus infection when I bought this last year so it's good to hear it again more clearly. Midnight communicates such a range of emotions into this performance it's insane. So damn soulful.
