Anzv - Gallas.

This new album is pretty good. The atmospheric sound makes for good music while working.

Testament - Titans Of Creation
I wasn't keen on this album upon its release, but it's really grown on me.

Edguy - Hellfire Club, Age of the Joker, Monuments new tracks

I don't think most of the metal world ever knew what to make of them. They always had a pretty idiosyncratic way of writing and playing, despite it not really being complex or anything. They changed up styles every album almost and even production values changed. As much about rock as it was metal.

AOTJ is one I've struggled to recapture how it was that first year when I heard it - just that specific place and vibe which is very different from where I am now. But it's got some brilliant tunes and is maybe the band's most adventurous. It's more involved than some of their stuff, a bit more dense in some small ways. Maybe a bit all over the place. But I like imperfect art. Still a favorite overall.

Undeath - Necrobionics

"It's Time... to Rise From the Grave" is still my favorite death metal album of this year, I think.
It doesn't reinvent the wheel necessarily, it just does this sound extremely well.

Mi'Gauss - On This Day

This shit just crushes so hard. Melodic, brutal riffage. Just a sheer love of the fucking music. A great care and precision.

Kreator - Coma Of Souls
Heathen - Breaking the Silence
Forbidden - Twisted Into Form

Been on a classic thrash binge this morning. Classics here....to say these get the blood flowing would be a tremendous understatement.

Baroness - Purple

Top-tier Baroness stuff going on in this one—not sure how to put "Baroness stuff" into real words but that's what's happening here. Tremendous music. Not only is it a step up from Yellow & Green but it also sounds like the natural successor to Blue Record, what should have been. Too bad someone fucked up the sound, though; it's too loud and distorted. 9.5/10 album despite sounding like Death Magnetic.

Kreator - Under a Total Blackened Sky

I, for one, am totally fine with the melodeath influences on the last 20 years of Kreator albums. It adds a new dimension to the music, and it still overall sounds like Kreator.

Stryper - Against the Law

I don’t know what the fuck I was thinking when I bought this but after a few listens, I can safely classify this as a turd. Won’t be looking for more post-90’s Stryper anytime soon.

Voivod - War and Pain

This album is kind of a mess and all over the place but it has heart. That’s gritty and raw thrash the way it should be.

Their latest has spurned my interest in some of the better 'modern' records. These three do indeed kick some serious ass, and it makes pap such as "13" and "Super Collider" suck that much more.

Brymir - Voices in the Sky (new 2022 album)

Outstanding! When not listening to music, I keep replaying the guitar melodies and chorus of Landfall in my head.

Pig Destroyer - Demo

Doesn't deserve the low reviews. This is the kind of grind demo people usually dig.

Briton Rites - My Will Be Thine

This whole album just lays everything to waste. Brilliant riffs, conviction, atmosphere. Love Phil's vocals too.

This and the new Cauldron Born really just show the best qualities of both genres. So exquisite.

A perfect record, makes me want to go on a road trip to Kentucky or West Virginia.

Recent night-time listenings:

Drudkh - Blood in Our Wells & Eternal Turn of the Wheel
CMX - Veljeskunta
Wanderer / Wintermoon / I Flow in Depths / Jatunheim split
Unholy - Gracefallen

Yeah, mornings it's all old and catchy heavy rock, but for late hours you need something more atmospheric.

Sigh - Shiki

A real funhouse of sounds. Every track builds on the last and that's really what makes a lot of albums truly great.

Crimson Glory - Crimson Glory

I binged through their discography this summer and have fallen in love with them!

Got this on LP as a gift for my graduation along with Cirith Ungol's Frost and Fire.

Interested in seeing how things go with the band now that he's back and Brian's on vox.

Slayer - Christ Illusion
Slayer - World Painted Blood

Great later Slayer. When I first listened to "Christ Illusion" I thought: "Finally! The world has been saved." Well, it hasn't been saved, we're still in a downward spiral but, back then, at least the band spiralled upwards for a while.

First time listening to Cirith Ungol. Did not expect them to be... weirdly atmospheric and jammy and epic!

Deflorate is amazing! Top tier riffs, that blend amazingly without a "riff salad showoff" happening.

Also yeah anything that Crimson Glory made is a classic.

Unleashed in the East is up there with the best live albums. Up there with BB King's "Live at Cook county Jail" or Johnny Cash's "Live at San Quentin" or even Pink Floyd's infamous bootleg "And the walls cam crushing down". The songs are amazing.
Fun fact. I actually found out that due to the live performance the songs were sped up by the band. I can never listen top the studio versions of songs like "Exciter" or "Diamonds and Rust".

Haha I still loved Yellow & Green more than Purple I don't know why. But it is true that this should have been the follow up to the masterpiece that is "Blue Record".

Speed metal masterpiece! "Harder than Steel" is one of the most classic heavy metal riffs.

Well this is great news, I've been wanting the Better Days EP tracks on CD.

The songwriting, riffs and performances raise this album and band up to a level most other bands will never reach.

Kalah - Side Effects

I'm conflicted. There are moments in this song that are refreshing and exciting and promising, but then there are other moments that scream, "I AM A GIANT PILE OF SHIIIIIIT!!"

I don't know which to believe.

Sonja - Loud Arriver
Motorhead - Sacrifice
Falconer - Chapters from a Vale Forlorn
Sigh - Imaginary Sonicscape

Playlist for tonight. The Motorhead is so fucking good, just one blazing, ripping killer after another. Such a great band. Falconer's is one of the classier PM albums around - classy, great delicate melodies, great heavy as fuck riffs. It's got the heaviness of the debut but a more intricate melodicism. This kinda stuff is why I don't get the hate against EUPM.
