If I gotta pick a favorite Running Wild album, it's definitely this one. Every song rules.

It's extremely hard to pick. Their '89-'94 run is as legendary as Blind Guardian's '88-'95 run.

Just a glut of some of the best albums ever recorded.

I'll go further, their run from '84 to '98 is truly legendary.

Edge of Sanity - The Spectral Sorrows.

Holy shit this stuff stomps ass. I have never listened to much of the Swedish death metal outside of Entombed. Fuck I was missing out.

Not pure DM though, some clean vocals and slightly progressive notes? Need to track a copy down now.

These guys might be fucking geniuses.

Nithing - Agonial Hymns

Complete alien noise and shit flinging on the surface, but as it goes on there's really something kind of cool about it.

That Nithing album is one of the best brutal death albums i've heard in a minute, fucking insane in the best way possible.

It's pretty nuts.

Wings of Steel - Gates of Twilight
Iron Fate - Crimson Messiah

Two of the best new slick, melodic metal acts I've heard recently. Wings of Steel is nuts - the singing is very Geoff Tate, almost a commercial style, but then the music is some of the better heavy, dense power metal I've heard in a bit. Meaty Tad Morose stuff with some good dynamics.

Classic band Ace, one of the best death metal bands of Europe, Dan Swano is an incredible metal producer too.

Riot - Thundersteel

Should listen to this more often than once a year. This is the definition of metal. Fast and loud, epic riffs and choruses, high soaring vocals. This is what it's all about.

Vision Master - Sceptre

This albums a fuckin blast. Obviously inspired by Slough Feg but makin it their own Vision Master thing and I can't shake the feeling there's a Voivod influence as well. It's a fantastic debut and for me Vision Master get everything right that Mega Colossus doesn't.

Warhorse - As Heaven Turns to Ash....

When this came out in '01 it seemed like Warhorse were destined for great things but they pretty much disappeared leaving us with this one-off apocalypticly heavy sludge/stoner/doom classic.

Forefather - Steadfast

What an album that is. After all these years it still is one of my favorites of all time. I wonder why they removed it from Spotify

Motorhead - Kiss of Death

A mid tier Motorhead album. Which means its a fun enjoyable batch of hard rocking music but not a mandatory part of their catalog. But following up the total monster that was Inferno, which I'd give a 95%, they were bound to fall short. I'd give it a 65-70% I think. I need this and Overnight to complete the studio album collection so I think I'm off to Amazon.

Angel Dust - Enlighten the Darkness

An incredibly challenging, textured piece of work for power metal; one of the genre's best and most unique voices.

Madder Mortem - Marrow

Like a lot of great bands they seem to have a way of sticking to a style but continually writing songs and albums that highlight different elements and have their own character.

D.F.C. - Sequência Brutal de Estaladas e Biqueiradas

thrashcore from here (brazil) and pretty much atemporal, always regular, never released shit, total respect!

Moonspell - Ruin and Misery

Yup, "Irreligious" is still one of the best gothic metal albums of all time.

This is true. Those early speed metal albums are killer, the power metal stuff (up to 98) is killer. Too much greatness to be found.

What's great about Motörhead is that even their mid tier albums include absolute bangers like Sword of Glory. Gonna play that now.

Kiss of Death is the album that really drew me into listening to more Motörhead. It’s a good one, so yeah, even if it’s mid it’s still good.

Best Maiden record, hands down. Perfect flow from one track to the next, and a perfect length.

I have been playing Helrunar - Sol: some atmospheric black metal with nice production.

I'm listening to this for only the second time since it was released. Solid but not grabbing me as hard as its two predecessors do.

I felt the same about Cycles of Pain. Not bad, but just not great either.

NP-
Dwarrowdelf- The Fallen Leaves. Youtube offered it to me, and I'm a sucker for Tolkien themed melodic black metal, so here I am.

Aria - Megalomania (or Ария - Мания величия)

Despite being a compendium of Scorpions, Maiden and Priest it ends up being a force with a will and charisma of its own, there is something simply charming in its approaching, it's not the loudest, not the fastest but it doesn't need to be because every piece just seems to fit together in the right way. "America Is Behind" is a super catchy and simplistic tune and has to be one of my favourite endings from a heavy metal album. I should listen to this band more.

Vader - Litany
Slayer - Show No Mercy
Acerus - The Caliginous Serenade

Some harder shit - need the catharsis. Long few days. Vader and Slayer seem to go together. There's something fucking hyped and charged about this kind of highly kinetic riff style. This huge energy.

Nick Leonard - Revelation

I am liking this more and more. Has a similar appeal as Savior Machine and Sombre Holiday.

UFO - Misdemeanor

I actually like this. Not as great as the three before it but I love 80's UFO.

Acerus - Towards the Enigma of No Return

This is fucking great... I think the vocals are a bit rough on a lot of their stuff, but god is Daniel such a great riff writer. So good. This hasn't been talked about enough.

Chapel Of Disease - Echoes Of Light

As I expected they've pretty much went full blown death n' roll this time, can't really call this a death metal album outside of the vocals. Hell some parts aren't really metal at all, a pretty eclectic mixture of influences overall.

Might have to give this a few spins to let it sink in.

Graven Rite - The Summoner's Pit
Yet another epic heavy metal offering with commendable guitar work and writing but hamstrung by a weak vocal performance. It's always the vocals with these bands. He got better in Eternal Champion, even if he's still only singing the same seven notes. Cool artwork for this project, I dig it.

More spins

Midnight - Satanic Royalty - A blast of Venomy blackend speed metal. Fun stuff. A bit campy but that is to be expected.

Megadeth - Dystopia - Adler rips on the drums, the riffs and leads are tight.

Cradle of Filth - Haunted Shores

"Bury me in velvet dream lest I unduly wake..."
COF never topped this album. They made some damn good stuff both before and after (as well as some rather notable misses unfortunately...) but "Dusk and Her Embrace", for me, is their peak. Definitely something I'd give a 100% to if I were to review it.

I love that song. Great ending to the album. Probably one of my favourite Dani performances. Also killer lead riff.

Anyway,

Kill on Command - Vio-Lence

Awesome song from a great album.
