Oh hey, speaking of Emperor... Emperor - The Eruption I love how bonkers "Prometheus" is, personally. Scored it on vinyl pretty recently. |

Sodom - Nuclear Winter Can't say I've ever spun a lot of Sodom. I have In The Sign of Evil + Obsessed By Cruelty comp, but that is it. This is a good track but I think I'm just more of a Stateside thrash guy. |

Cirith Ungol - Dark Parade. Everything that makes Cirith Ungol great, 44 min of riffs. |

Very much equally awesome. NP - Sumerlands - s/t This album is kinda strange in that it has a lot of promise and there's a lot to like about it but I probably wouldn't give it another spin anytime soon. All the ingredients are pretty good but they don't seem to amount to an exciting whole. Not much in the way of standout riffs, and the rhythm guitar production feels a little toothless. Swanson gives a fine enough performance, but the chorus/delay on his voice sounds artificial, like an obvious compensation for his sometimes limp delivery. A lot of the songs have nice moments, though. Wish this album could've been injected with some mutagens or steroids or something to take it to the next level. |

Threshold - March of Progress I love this band. So classy, elegant, yet so crushing in the riffs department. |

Cirith Ungol - Paradise Lost So underrated man, even by the band, there a lot of killer cuts here, probably on my top 3 albums from them. |

Hangman's Chair - A Loner Lost count of how many times I've jammed this album, easily their best work to date. Strays away from the romanticism you see with most gothic metal bands for a more "urban" sound. |

Sonata Arctica - Running Lights I actually love "Pariah's Child" quite a bit. I think I'd give it like a 90% if I were to review it. Quirky album (in a good way). |

Michael Schencker Group - Assault Attack A great album and Graham Bonnet sounds fantastic. I think of Gary Barden as being the voice of MSG but this one off with Bonnet is easy to love. |

Could've been their masterpiece but for good ol lable fuckery. It's the one that got away. NP: Veni Domine - Material Sanctuary Doom metal of the dramatic, bombastic and cinematic variety but thankfully no cheese. Nice doomy riffage ang great Tate-like vocals. I'm new to this band but based on the strength of Material Sanctuary I can't wait to sink my teeth into the rest of their catalogue. |

Misfits - Walk Among Us and the Spot Sessions Demos I'm a huge Misfits fan so getting this boot was a no-brainer. I have most of the tracks coz they were in the boxeset but having them collected like this and a few tracks that weren't in the boxeset is fuckin cool. |

Unleash the Archers - Abyss I wasn't really blown away by them like some were, just seems like they don't really take it to the next level yet with either heaviness or catchiness, but it's still good. Nice straightforward PM. We don't really get a lot of stuff like this now. |

Tyr - Ragnarok Listening to this after Eric the Red. This is pretty great too. Slightly more accesible perhaps, but still proggy at parts. Folk metal that's not annoying happy flute playing shit. |

Esoteric - Quickening A cinematic, deliberate, patient affair that reveals much darkness. Greg Chandler's sweeping riffs and rich growls work wonders. |

Year Zero - Nihil's Flame One of the more obscure doom bands out there. Been a very long time since I've heard this unfortunately. Got me interested back in the day because Mark Griffiths of Cathedral (FOE & Soul era) was involved. Really cool album that leans more to the Soul Sacrifice side of doom. "An Eternal Dawn" is a clear standout, great song. |

Spins... Deströyer 666 - Never Surrender - A banger from these guys. I really need to go back further in the catalog but this was one of my favorites from 2022. Bolt Thrower - For Victory - The album that I discovered these guys on. Probably my #2 in their catalog. This drives me to full body headbanging. The riffs and massive grooves just grab me. |

Wretched - Life Out There Hellhound was such a cool label, damn shame they didn't last long, a bit like Wretched. Wretched are similar to The Obsessed and Lost Breed, the vocalist strangely reminds me of a mix of Wino and Muir. I really dig this band and album, just as well coz it cost a pretty penny to get it. |

Threshold - Psychedelicatessen They had all the pieces even back on this one. Glynn Morgan sounds great and the riffs are some of their heaviest and most aggressive - some of these songs like the opener or "Into the Light" are just as good as any of the later shit. |

Wrathblade - God of the Deep Unleashed The singer is twisting himself into pretzels to make this as wild and weird as possible, and I love it. Totally unafraid to be weird and niche. Good solid fucking riffs. It's all very good. |

Orodruin - Ruins Of Eternity It took 16 years but Orodruin finally produced a follow-up to '03's mighty work of trad doom Epicurean Mass. Thankfully the wait was worth it because Ruins Of Eternity is a equally brilliant album full of powerful, soulful and memorable songs. |

Close to my "Handful of doom albums". Pantera - Cowboys from Hell Bought some of their albums cheap. But a good album, no denying. I've been warming to them lately. They weren't exactly my favorite band when I was younger. |
