Bathory - Twilight of the Gods

Oh my, what happened here? I loved Hammerheart but this one is really hard to sit through. It's got the customary terrible Bathory production job and it's so slow and boring and the vocals are quite terrible. How can this be considered anywhere near the same level as what came before?

Slough Feg - New Organon

It seems like they really went back to the Traveller style. I've been playing the two singles alongside said album and barely notice a difference in riff quality or writing. Just preordered the album finally so can't wait.

Sonata Arctica - White Pearl, Black Oceans
Apart from them being panned for their Engrish, sultry vocals and lulling melodies.

Rudra - Advaitamrta

Rudra is a good example of just how out-of-the-blue stupid I can get. Great band, I dig pretty much everything they released, especially Brahmavidya I: Transcendental which is a damn smashing album. The follow up was good too, not at the level of Transcendental though. And then I just sort of forget about them for about 5 years, with occasional song or two listened to. It was interesting to hear how they tried something different with Rta from that perspective.

But yeah, Transcendental still rules hard :headbang:

Paradise Lost - In This We Dwell

Tragic Idol isn't much of an impressive album to me, but this track is a serious banger. How does Greg come up with these diverse and original riffs?!

Avantasia - Starlight

Listened to this record a lot when it first came out, then backed off of it (besides Book Of Shallows). Some big hooks, but still isn't even close to Ghostlights.

The Contortionist - Exoplanet
Definitely one of the pinnacles of the genre (progressive deathcore/djent whatever you wanna call it) for me.

Vultures Vengeance - Chained By The Night

Been hearing a lot about this band lately, so decided to check out the album and it's really solid heavy metal. Even though it's from Italy, it sounds like a lot of USPM.

Bloc Party - Halo

This is some insane, reckless music and I love it. Utterly fearless shit.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius OST - The Zenith

Otherwise known as, "The Emperor's Sweet Rave Party." Game's got a surprisingly great soundtrack for a mobile game.

I tried that band lately and while I love those synths, the songs aren't really doing it for me.

NP: Sacrificio - Razas del sepulcro

Sounds like Hellhammer/Celtic Frost gone thrashing - at times, that is. The occasional slowed down tomb-like atmosphere is rather cool, too.

Probably the heaviest song on that album. That main riff, man!

NP: Bolt Thrower - Psychological Warfare

Surely different from the band's later works - very catchy though.

Samael - Liquid Soul Dimension

I'm always stunned how this sounds so fresh and new even though it's released more than 20 years ago. This song pumps adrenaline straight to your veins!

Bruh you should've told me you played it before I cut my losses and deleted it because gacha games are scum on principle. For real though, I've always pegged it as simply a Gumi game with a Squeenix license but it really does have an almost classic FF-level soundtrack, which is amazing for a non-canon money generator mobile game.

Katatonia - Murder

The Katatonia thread inspired me to check these guys out again. Loving the 2nd album. It's like alternative rock with death metal vocals.

I'm starting to think I need a direct feed of your NPs. 100% of the times I've searched for what you're listening to that I haven't heard of I end up liking it.

Brazilian midpaced stomping BM - fans of early Rotting Christ and Samael should definitely check this out.

Overkill - "A Mother's Prayer"

The new Overkill is solid, consistent, balls-out thrash as usual. And I wouldn't have expected anything less.
