Darkthrone - The Hardship of the Scots

Love it, doomy and awesome.
The main riff could easily get stuck in my head...

Verdunkeln - Der Herrscher

Still one of my favourites. This band can write some fucking goth rock riffs I tell you what.

Behemoth - Christgrinding Avenue.

Have to be in the mood for this record, but when I am its pretty good. Like the outro and drums on this.

Malokarpatan - Holbaard Dzírobrad

Love this band, speedy black heavy metal with a creepy feeling to it.

Stormlord-Mediterranea

So the new Stormlord album is still spinning. It's a step up from Hesperia, but not much.
But then I heard this song, and it's currently my favorite Stormlord song. Holy shit the keys are so good. It has that somber yet triumphant feeling I got from And The Wind Shall Scream My Name which was my favorite before this.

Candlemass "A Sorcerer's Pledge"

Those riffs, holy shit. Brilliant song from first and the best Candlemass album.

In the Silence - "Endless Sea" from _A Fair Deal Gone Mad_ - huge Katatonia+Insomnium nostalgia right here. Love it.

Battle Beast - No More Hollywood Endings

First listen. Two songs in and this isn't bad so far. I know there's one really weird song coming up, but hopefully the rest of the record keeps sounding like these first two tracks.

Whoever was listening to "Tundra Leach" earlier- right on!!
Great tune, great album!

I'm listening to Salem- "Destruction Till Death" demo from 1987, because it's an old-school death/black metal demo I hadn't heard yet.

To be honest, it's not very good. It's recorded live, which, for a first recording, generally isn't a good idea if the band hasn't developed any sense of timing or tightness yet, which seems to be the case here. Its way too amateurish and garage-y, which is saying a lot coming from a guy who actually likes a lot of the really raw underground stuff from that era. Sloppy playing through cheap equipment- they had a few decent ideas here but they really should have practiced a bit more and waited to release a proper studio demo instead of this.

Bad Religion - No Substance

Really liking this. Heard bad things about this, so I didn't check it out until yesterday. This is the catchiest/most poppy of their efforts that I've heard. Many cool songs.

It's definitely one of their weirder ones, for sure. It's got some stinkers but the good songs are super good. Love the title track and Hear It the most probably, but there are plenty of good ones regardless. Barely a punk album but at least worth a listen.

Yeah, I feel like a teenager listening to No Substance. Victims of the Revolution and Shades of Truth could've been big hits back in the days...

Sasha & Digweed - Northern Exposure

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually enjoying a house/trance album.

Thin Lizzy - Do Anything You Want To Do

Kickass prowling tempo and Lynott is a beast. Badass incarnate. I never gave this album as many listens as I should've so I am rectifying it now.

Testament - The Gathering

Listening for the extremely few James Murphy solos.

Vision Divine, _Vision Divine_
Exploring a bit of the late 90s/early aughts Italian power/prog scene. Not usually my thing - I go for more complicated stuff - but listening to Athena's _A New Religion?_ for the first time in a long time got me thinking again about a bunch of these bands and deciding to revisit them. So far this is OK & a couple of songs count as guilty pleasures, I guess.

How I wish these guys released a few albums more - fucking incredible USPM from Germany, especially considering the year it came out.

Rotting Christ - Coronation of the Serpent

Conversation on the black metal poll topic made me to unearth Thy Mighty Contract. I seem to like this more than Non Serviam - which is also great. Very infectious and original riffs. Would've made my top 10 also.

Lilys - Eccsame The Photon Band

All I've been listening to these days is shoegaze, slowcore, some doom/sludge, and Cryptopsy.

Black Majesty - Guardian

Man they never really topped their debut. This was such a strange and offbeat album from back when PM was still finding its way as a genre again.

I still maintain that Silent Company and Stargazer are their best. Sands of Time was maybe a little too dry, a little too cautious.

Stargazer is a very solid album but I think it's even beat by In Your Honor and Children of the Abyss. Silent Company you can make a good case for but I think it never quite tops its first few songs.

Nah, Silent Company is their true classic and Stargazer is probably in second place. Zelky is right on the money with that one. In Your Honour is very good two but their two best are pretty obvious to me. Saying anything from the newest album tops Stargazer is fuckin' laughable though. Children of the Abyss is good and a huge breath of fresh air after Cross of Thorns but let's not get overzealous now.

Eh, disagree, Sands of Time has been the one I've played the most lately. Children of the Abyss is more energetic and has more high points than Stargazer, which was mostly just an album of ultra-solid songs.

I swear that breakdown in Bodycount's "Talk Shit, Get Shot" is one of the best neckbreaking sections in all of heavy music.

If I were to hold a lectureship in front of a thousand people and someone would play that shit down on the street, I'd go batshit crazy and throw stuff a at people while whirling around like a madman.
