Rush "Hemispheres"

Brilliant album. I think one of their top 3.

Black Label Society- Black Pearl

Tell me this doesn't sound like the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time at parts.

Superstition - The Anatomy Of Unholy Transformation

After my first listen I was a bit underwhelmed - not as bestial/extreme as I was expecting. Will re-visit it again soon before making my mind up on its merits.

Tad Morose - Clearly Insane

Got to appreciate the value of a great guitar tone combined with a killer voice. The songs being so damn tight and aggressive is icing on the cake.

Epic and melodic!

Just checking this one out as well. Some of the more memorable black metal I've heard so far this year. French vocals, both harsh and clean, are also a plus for me. Really reinforces the epic medieval vibe they're going for.

Véhémence - La sorcière du bois lunerive

Glad you like it, I really enjoy the album!

Mjölnir - Walpurgisfeuer

Iron Maiden - Reach Out

Very unusual for the band but it's one of their most beautiful and passionate. Adrian Smith should have done more lead vocals IMO.

Lunar Shadow- The Smokeless Fires.

So far I'm liking this one all right, but I can tell it'll be much more of a grower than their first album. Also one thing Far from Light has over this one is the overall feel of the album. Each song feels like a long trek through some expansive, unknown stretch of land, whereas The Smokeless Fires has more of a typical NWOTHM vibe overall.

This is a blind spot for me in the Rush catalog. Very spotty listening on my part between 2112 up until Permanent Waves. Looking to amend this soon.

Currently, Following Betulas from Cult of Luna, Live at the Scala.

Iron Maiden - No More Lies

When Dance Of Death first came out, this song really grated on me. Now I dig it. As repetitive as it is... it's got kinda cool atmosphere.

To-Mera - "Born of Ashes" from _Transcendental_

I loved Without Face's _Astronomicon_ album back in the day but somehow missed out on To-Mera. Remedying that now. They don't actually sound too much alike other than Julie Kiss' vocals and having generally progressive elements, but I'm enjoying what I'm hearing so far.

Should be a classic but alas.

Possessed - Demon

What a fucking monster riff this has. Plus Jeff evoking Lemmy a bit.

Yeah its fucking aces. The title track is kick ass but not my favorite long form piece of music they have written. The stuff after that is all amazing. Circumstances, The Trees, La Villa...

Usurper - Bones of My Enemies

Not as good as their old material but damn if the energy isn't like a caffeine shot. They sound murderous as fuck. I miss GD Slaughter and the slower, groovier stomp of the old stuff though - the latter came back on their new one but it's also probably their weakest effort overall.

Interesting that album gets mentioned....

Slayer - Undisputed Attitude

This was my first punk album, I believe. I loved it when I was 15 and honestly it holds up now. Most importantly however, i think it's the closest the band got to rekindling the spirit of RiB.

Oh, and 'Gemini' is a bold experiment for the band for sure, one of my favourite tracks of theirs.

Even though I've long since moved away from nu-metal, I still have an appreciation for SOAD. They bought a level of creativity and theatricality to the genre that a lot of other bands in that style were sorely lacking. And they have some genuinely epic moments, like the chorus of "Forest" or the entirety of "Holy Mountains."

SOAD were one of a kind. Not quite THE nu metal band for me but certainly one of the best of the field.
