Toxik - Out on the Tiles

This song is a bit different from the rest of the album. Has more of an 80s rock vibe to it instead of a thrash one. I dig it!

That's because it's a Led Zeppelin cover. :p

NP: Black Lodge - Dissonance

I remember this track being great and everything else that followed just couldn't compete with it. Lets see if my opinion still stands.

OK this is rather embarrassing, especially since I've listened to a lot of Led Zeppelin. I don't recognise the name of the song, though. Maybe it's because it's not exactly one of their biggest hits?

Exhorder - Homicide

Aka the band that people claim Pantera stole their sound from. This song is from the Slaughter in the Vatican album.

Emerald - Armed for Battle

And an another album I found mostly because of this site, and not from a shady forgotten record store on the edge of the world. Great LP, just what I need right now.

Mgla - Age of Excuse

Don't understand those guys who try to insult/accuse the band of some subjective things. In my opinion they are sort of modern version of Darkthrone if the latter were conserving their classic bm sound. Mgla are just doing what they like and the final product is in no way new or original, but straightforward bm stuff with classic tremolos. Fine by me.

Before that:
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Won't add to this a lot. If you haven't listened to it at least once, you're wasting your time on this planet..

The Drowning - Solitary White Ship

Good doom/death from the UK. I'm curious to hear their new album that's due to be released very soon.

Tool - Lateralus

New album was a snoozer. Running through their old discog is a great reminder of not only why people like them but how hard they fell on this newest one.

Dream Troll - _Second to None_

Retro metal melodies a la _Seventh Son_ or Crimson Glory fused with somewhat modernistic vocals, goes down super-smooth. Decent album though the proggy track "I Will Not Die Today" stands way above everything else.

Yeah, thats my favourite on the record as well.

Disillusion - Wintertide

Pretty epic. Nice hooks. I'm excited to hear this whole thing.

Nuclear Assault - Handle With Care

When people talk about their favourite classic thrash albums I don't see this one being brought up that often: I personally really like this album. Fast paced and full of energy.

Atlantean Kodex - He Who Walks Behind the Years

This song in particular is blowing my fucking mind. Great riffs and the vocals are so strong.

Playing this finally, and yeah this is cool. Pretty much exactly my style of metal. Sort of fills the void of good urban breed projects that the last few years have left like a gaping hole. Like a mix of Tad Morose and Threshold or something, but more original than any simple thing like that. I avoided this because the name sounded like something dumb, but clearly I was misguided there.

edit: Some of this stuff has guitar playing like you usually do not hear much in metal. Very unique.

I love it. It's second-tier thrash for me though.

Agreed that it needs more love.

Yeah, I thought the name sounded silly at first too, but it's not the goofy, Hammerfallesque power metal you expect from the name.

Richard henshall - The cocoon

Beautiful prog, for me better than the last 2 albums of his main band, Haken

Yes. Nothing more, nothing less.

Pure evil and total hate. Sinister last great album.

I'm listening to the new Sonata Arctica album and I am not liking it at all. Goddamn. I used to love this band.

Not sure what your preferred albums were in their catalogue but from what I've heard a lot of their later material is fairly dire.

Well, don't get me wrong. It's definitely not Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, Bonded By Blood or Reign in Blood. But after the usual suspects it's one of the best thrash albums you can find, imo. So yeah, second-tier/B-tier as you say.

Sonata Arctica changed pretty drastically after those (really, after their first three IMO) though I think there's still plenty of enjoyable material from everything since.

Misþyrming - Algleymi

Yeah this is good

And yeah I've not heard those later SA albums but they underwent a pretty major transition right after their first four albums, from what I hear.

Serenity - Wings of Madness

I've always viewed this band as what would happen if Kamelot and Sonata Arctica did that DBZ fusion dance.

Castle - Exposed

I like how you've got some rock guitar solos and somewhat upbeat keys between these grinding riffs. It's a cool contrast.

Ross the Boss - By Blood Sworn

Hey, this works. Thought in my little mind, that the singer was their weakest link, but he sings pretty well. No need to be ashamed. The first song was fucking beast.

Someone mentioned them in the "Bands you wish came back" (or something like that) thread and I checked out the clips. Found the LP pretty fast. Sorry for late answer, didn't notice it before. It really is fucking great LP, one of the best I've bought lately.

Forbidden - Tossed Away

My favourite song from the underrated thrash album Twisted Into Form.
