Excalion - Trust

Gotta say I really dig this one. What a chorus. They still got it.

Nine Inch Nails - We Are In This Together

This is a massive fucking album; heavy and sensitive alike. Great stuff.

Voivod - Killing Technology

I've never cared about Voivod. Well, time to engage in some serious listening...

Necromantia - Scarlet Evil Witching Black

Black bass heavy! This is Ancient Pride good stuff.

First two Necromantia albums are among my favorites...!

Havukruunu - Terhen

Great pagan BM. Sounds like wandering around the finnish woods at winter.

Paysage d'Hiver - Kraft

An amazing ending to a fantastic album. A powerful not to end a row of songs that are amazingly fragile and ephemeral. I can't believe I waited so long to check out the final batch of PDH albums (Nacht, Einsamkeit, Das Tor).

Steven Wilson - "My Book of Regrets" from _4 1/2_

One of his most Porcupine Tree-ish (and Floydish) songs from recent solo work, maybe even a bit too much so (one guitar figure sounds like the opening theme from "Time Flies")...

Judas Priest - Painkiller

It was a while since I listened to this album. One of my all time favorites and I was impressed at how well it holds out. A true masterpiece of heavy metal.

Stomrider - The Sentence Divine, off The Path of Salvation

Big fucking heavy metal gallops and a suitably dramatic singer to ride them. If you like Maiden then check this out.

These Germans at their best! Classic!

Suffocation - Bloodchurn

A bit more simplistic than their earlier efforts, but not bad.

Black Crown Initiate - Years in Frigid Light.

I like this band and this new song seems pretty good. A lot of their work rides an interesting "nu-Opeth" line between modern death and folky/acoustic elements. Really good vocal and guitar performances even if the songwriting itself kind of blurs together for me.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Rings of Saturn

Cool as fuck. Really like what I've heard of his latter-day material; moody and somber. New album coming out next week sounds great from his description.

Paysage d'Hiver - Schlüssel

Great ending track once again. Raw blasting black metal with haunting synths. It's chliced, but when done well it really works.

Classica - I

Fun prog/power metal from Hungary. Fans of Warlord and old Angra might find much to enjoy here, though IMO their first album (aka "II") is their best. ("I" was their demo that got released after "Classica"/"II" was released.)

Cinderella - Nobody's Fool

None of the other songs on their debut album really grab me but I admit to enjoying this one.

Virgin Black - Velvet Tongue

Elegant... And Dying is an underrated album by these Australian gothic metallers and has some great tunes IMO.

Dying Fetus - The Blood of Power, off Reign Supreme

One of my favourite tunes by these guys, and just a great album in general. Love that crazy, mourningly epic guitar solo completely out of left field. It's like the music equivalent of that scene in Platoon. You know the one.

Paradise Lost - Daylight Torn (live)

Man, that acoustic part of the song...I wish they had more of that in their albums...

Necromantia - The Shaman

Totally engaged with Necromantia's sound lately. Still have to check if the first album still rules. Which it probably will.

Definitely one of their most epic songs!

NP: Majestic Downfall - Majestic Embrace

Sounds early Katatonia/October Tide inspired, but unlike most of those bands, this one doesn't forget about tasteful doom riffs. Yummy.

Orbit Culture - Svartport.

Excellent death/groove metal with an industrial edge. I love these guys. Very modern, but incredibly intense, and tight songwriting that doesn't drag itself out.

Adramelech - The Book of the Worm

I'd say Psychostasia's right up there with Nespithe and Slumber of Sullen Eyes as far as great Finnish death metal goes.

Deep Purple - House of Blue Light

Going through some of their lesser known albums I didn't hear before. This is better than some of the reviews said so far. More brusque, plain rock character compared to their old stuff, but fun. I just dig their whole sound.

edit: This is all solid. Nothing as eye-popping as their classics but all these songs are fine. Just a workmanlike good time.

Warrant - Mr. Rainmaker

Criticize the title track from Cherry Pie all you want, but the best songs on the album like this one and Uncle Tom's Cabin are awesome.

Judicator - Take Up Your Cross, off The Last Emperor

This apparently gets a lot of praise, but honestly? I'm not feeling it. It just strikes me as by-the-numbers power metal. Singer's cool and it's got a lot of energy, but it doesn't tread any ground that classic Blind Guardian didn't already do several times better in the past.

Kingcrow - _Eidos_

I was introduced to this band through last year's awesome _The Persistence_, which was dark, atmospheric, emotional prog. _Eidos_ is the previous album, and it's more upbeat and closer to what I would call "genre progmetal," but there are some great moments on this one as well. I particularly recommend "The Deeper Divide" and "At the Same Pace" to the curious.

Anthrax - Among The Living (from The Greater of Two Evils compilation)

Dunno, but these re-recordings sound way much powerful and fresh compared to original stuff.

Never my favorite DP album but it does hit the spot. Heavy and savage as fuck - they were on fire back then.

Opeth - A Fair Judgement

If Opeth made Doom Metal this is how it would be... a masterpiece.
