Rainbow - Temple of the King, off Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow

Love this song since the first time it reached my ears. It feels like being sung to sleep by Illuvatar.

Grave Digger - Baphomet

Such a remarkable and powerful song! Love that solo!

Rush "Power Windows"

What can i say? Another great Rush album. Some say that this album is so cheesy and too synth-oriented. Maybe, but i like it. Very much.

I adore this song. For someone with such a powerful voice, Dio really shines on the soft stuff.

Virgin Steele - Blood and Gasoline. So damn good.

The White Stripes - Icky Thump

This is still fucking great - massive riffs and the cool folky tunes add some spice and innovation like every album they did had.

Ashes to Ashes - New World Obscure

Forgot I had this one for a while. Killer gothic/power metal - they chug out some legit badass riffs and yet also have the dark symphonic side to 'em.

Meh. Epicus is by far their best record and the vocal performance is mile ahead of Messiah's theatrics. I do like the Messiah era but never thought it was so definitive.

I agree with Temple on this one... the Messiah stuff is by far their best work and he's just such a tremendous asset.

Mercyful Fate - Melissa

The old 70s rock influences in the playing are what makes this stand out from the imitators that came decades later. There's so much groove and inventive stuff going on, such an exuberance of discovery. As much as I've been digging King's solo stuff, I think he sounded better on these early MF albums.

Helheim - Svart visdom

Been blasting the Helheim debut this week. I sometimes compare it to Enslaved's Frost, but this is way more epic and interesting. I really like the slow part with the trumpet, and the part that follows (the "chorus") is really catchy.

Bolt Thrower-Inside the Wire

Even if Willets is not present, the album sounds good, Ingram did a great job :metal:

Well, I love Epicus but that singer sounds like crap on the new album. None of the Messiah replacements have really come close to being as great as he was though Vikstrom was pretty good.

I respect the debut a lot but really at this point in their career if they don't have Messiah (or, OK ... I'll accept Tony Martin) they should just quit.

P.S. it's not theatrics ... it's passion.

Necronomicon - Unus.

I guess these guys put out a new album. I'm not gonna lie, I haven't heard much since The Sacred Medicines, which I remember being pretty cool. This strikes me as much more... I don't want to say generic, but it has a Septicflesh vibe going on with the blasting, tremolo riffs, orchestral elements and layered vocals. It's good, but it doesn't strike me as particularly distinct considering those early albums had a more unique sound.

Antlers As Roots - II
(From their Finite EP)

Good atmospheric black metal a la Altar Of Plagues or WITTR. Also, props to the label Auris Apothecary who did a beautiful job on the cassette release.

Mayhem "Daemon"

After one listening i am relatively satisfied with this album as a whole. It's exactly how i pictured the newest Mayhem.

Goat Semen - En Vivo en Lima Hell (live-album)

Bought this yesterday from the Goat Semen gig. Actually quite good sounds here. You should really go to see them, if you have a chance. Fucking satanic. They left everything to the stage.

Kulto Maldito - Salve Inferno

Nice new band for me. Also from the Goat Semen gig. Kind of more "controlled" version of some death/black bands from the same continent. Driving catchy riffs. The drum work in particular is awesome. Fucking automatic gun.

Kreyson - Stay

A re-recorded, English-version of one of their classics. I prefer the original Czech version, but this is very good too. It's interesting to note that on this album (20 Years Of Kreyson) the English lyrics are not just translations but completely different themes too.

Uada-Snakes & Vultures

A few black metal fans I talked too posted tracks by these guys, and I never gave them a shot until now. Surprisingly good melodic black metal that always keeps up a fast pace. I really enjoy it

Now I need to check out this Batushka band next

Agent Steel - Fashioned from Dust

Reading Cyriis' disparaging comments about the Bruce Hall era makes me want to go back to this, the only Agent Steel album I really care about if I'm being honest.

From their first and only metal album (before they went eclectic rock). These Slovaks are super talented and all of their albums are very enjoyable.

Always thought that Alienigma was their worst album. Order of the Illuminati was fantastic though, Enslaved is my favorite AS song.

Really? I thought it was a huge disappointment. Just another nostalgic folky album about the sun that's way too long. The previous 4 albums were way better.
