Idle Hands- Mana

Good, but a little too much goth over metal. Way too many clean guitar intros on this.

Max Webster - Universal Juveniles
Impellitteri - Pedal to the Metal (Good, but has one GAWD-AWFUL joke song that's just embarrassingly bad!)
Neil Young - Silver & Gold
Raveonettes - In & Out of Control
Michael Schenker Group - MSG (Not a classic like the 3rd & 4th albums, but like the first one, it's good!)

Been listening to it as well, and I don't really see how that is a bad thing. Two great flavours that go great together.

That's what makes it unique, the gothy parts - I think they'll probably lean even harder into that blend of styles in the future.

Vision Divine - Land of Fear

Can't get enough. The aggressive, clear precision of this is so damn alluring.

Arch Nemesis - Before the Shadows Came

Percussive, dark, weird power metal, exactly the way I like it. What a bizarre little subgenre this was back in the 90s and 00s. Arch Nemesis' problem was that they never really put out an album full of ironclad hooks that could've gotten them more recognition, but for odd music that focuses on atmosphere and riffing, this is cool as fuck.

Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons

This bootleg version blows the original out of the water; LaBrie sounds more like a gnome here (that's a compliment) and the song is built from some cool late 80's Fates Warning-esque riffs that the EP version lacked.

King Diamond - Masquerade of Madness

Can't get enough! So he sings "voodoo dolls", not "cuckoo dolls"...

Dripping - Disintegration of Thought Patterns During a Synthetic Mind Traveling Bliss

Ahead of its time in many regards and still as fun as I remember it back in the 2000's. Bass drops done right.

Morbid Angel - Blessed are the Sick

Such a filthy, dark good time. I love hearing the riffs on these old albums because it was just like a step away from thrash and you could hear them just going nuts, pushing the boundaries and whatnot.

Egaheer - Pamięć...Smutek...Cierń

Old polish BM, primitive and with some pagan/folky feeling.

Windows96 - Enchanted Instrumentals and Whispers

I'm not a huge fan of vaporwave, but this project is pretty good.

Mechina - Telesterion.

Eh. I really like some of the previous albums, but this one skews more towards the "epic film soundtrack" end of the spectrum than any of the others. Every song is super samey and they make a much heavier use of orchestration and female vocals. There are some good groovy riffs in there, but most of it kind of blends together into an indistinct bunch of sound. The production also doesn't help as the drums and guitars seem pushed to the background in favor of a wash of keyboards and orchestrations. Not bad, but not great.

Battle Beast - Armageddon Clan, off Steel

Yep, this has definitely held up as the best Battle Beast album over the years.

A fitting album to listen to for the last hour of Veterans Day

Radiohead - Planet Telex

Beautiful, sweeping guitar melodies and Thom Yorke is inimitable. I kinda wish they'd done more in this style - but they wouldn't be the same band if that was the case.

I've been a fan of theirs since their split with My Silent Wake (another criminally underrated band IMO...). I haven't got their latest but have heard unanimously positive things about it. Their back-catalog is great too.

Now playing:
Wovenhand - Bible And Bird

I just got to see them play live this past Saturday. They did an absolutely fantastic job, as always.

oh my FUCK. Guys, I'm usually not into Funeral doom, but this album fucking crushes. The crescendo of this song is ballistic.

Rush - Clockwork Angels

The production value, the playing and the vocals on here are just perfection. A rich delicacy. I love the passion and power.

Yeah its pretty fucking awesome. Granted there are times I wish Neil would think its the late 70's and get crazier but his later drumming is always impeccable. Greatest final album by a band of that stature?

:np: Smashing Pumpkins - Muzzle

Now and then I get into a Pumpkins mood. But I can always listen to JC play the drums. Caught them on the Machina tour and fuck was he a monster.

I like that they just focused on writing killer, compact tunes in their later years - the 70s was a magical adventurous time. Trying to do that again after the fact would've been trying too hard. What they did, just pumping out great hooks and riffs, that's timeless.

Oh I'm not calling for long prog epics, there are times now and then where I want Neil to toss in crazy fills and he keeps it tasteful. Then again he knows more about writing drum parts than I do...

Yeah for sure. I dunno - what I appreciate about Rush and other such bands is that it feels like they all knew what they had to do for the service of these songs. I dig it.

Satan's Host - By the Hands of the Devil

fuuuuuuuuuuuck these guys were so good. Still find their approach to power and extreme metal here (and the next couple of albums, if we consider Pre-Dating God 1 and 2 to be one album) to be really refreshing. I don't think a lot of bands really took this mantle besides maybe one or two, and only for like one album each before splitting (unless that was just Desultor).

Burzum - Snu Mikrokosmos Tegn

Haven't listened to Burzum in ages, and I'm still fundamentally ambivalent about Det Som Engang Var, but the atmosphere suits me today.

Goat Semen - Ego Svm Satana

Nice melodies and all... NOT! There's the same madness present in this record, that was present also in their live perfomance. Surprise!

Nevermore - Dead Hart In a Dead World

Loved this band so much around the turn of the Century. Decided to go play some tracks and this one smokes. Slow intro into a nice riff and good drums. Not as nuts about the guitar tone as I used to be though.
