Fuck yeah! The Musique album just got its re-master released on Spotify! It's incredibly how this album has grown on me over the years. It is a shocking contrast to the gothic metal/rock of the first albums, but it has a certain grit and heaviness that was lost on subsequent albums. That stupid robot voice over the pulsating europop rythm with lyrics about machines and computers :headbang:
It's funny you should mention them. I literally just got into them for the first time a week or two ago. On spotify a Lacuna Coil song was over for me and I just let it go. It started playing music in that style. I heard Theater of Tragedy and was blown away. I have been playing Aegis to death.

"Aegis" is basically The Sisters of Mercy gone metal, and it's excellent - my favorite TOT album. I'll admit I had some trouble getting into the more electronic albums but I might give them another shot just to see if I'd like them nowadays. I quite liked the two albums with Nell Sigland though, and I wish they'd kept going.

Sarcófago - Midnight Queen

Nice.

Santa Lucia - Arktista hysteriaa

I haven't listened anything else for the past few days. Teenage punk girls playing some sort of power metal? In Finland? In the 80s? Well, I can tell that it fucking works.

Liturgy - HAQQ

Here it comes for the review challenge. I dig the weird piano and glitch sounds. It keeps me on my toes in a wonderfully weird, meta way.

More questionable vocals?

Helheim - Oaken Dragons

The Journeys and Experiences of Death is a great album, but this song is its crown jewel.

songs from the new Cattle Decapitation

...and just if I thought this band could've not gotten any worse. They were always bad imo (except for the skramz demo), but this one tops it all. What's with the Elmo vocals?

I have been impressed by both their first album and the more progressive 2011 one, i should explore more this band!

Absu - Manannan

I always knew them by name but it's actually the first time i'm seriously checking them out: for me the star of the show is the hyper busy drumming, wich is fantastic. The riffs are many but not as impressive

Judas Priest - One for the Road, off Rocka Rolla

I've grown to love this album very much lately. It is, of course, a very primordial version of Priest, but even here you can see the seeds of what would later become archetypal metal greatness being planted. It might not be the very best Priest has to offer as Priest, but as far as 70's hard rock goes? This is top notch stuff.

Accept - London Leatherboys

They were like a metal AC/DC - they had solid as fuck riffing and then just this maniac on vocals who wouldn't work in 90% of bands. This is a catchy as fuck album though.

Morgana Lefay - Ice Rock Festival 2015 (live bootleg on youtube)

So bummed I didn't get to see them live around this time, with this monster-setlist. Did catch them 2 times earier (2000 and 2006) and was supposed to see them at this year before they canceled and went on another "break"... I like this band way too much.

It should be - they're a pretty consistent band.

Blood Incantation - Hidden History of the Human Race

Keeps delivering - this is some seriously rich, well written metal music.

Fear of Domination - Call of Schizophrenia (2019 Version)

Meh. Much cleaner production that lacks a lot of the punch and grit of the original. The guitars and gain have been toned down, though it's more dynamic than the original as well. Vocal layering has been reduced and the female vocals are pushed farther forward in the mix. The cover art has also been "sexed up" in a pretty blatant way. In other words, it's a typical nu-make by being just an overall inferior version of the original recording.

Lights - Muscle Memory

I think this kind of music is called "indie pop". It can be rather hit and miss, though, and Lights is no exception. This song is alright.

Serenity - The Art of War

I feel like "War of Ages" is a more musically rich album than the last one, "Lionheart". I enjoyed LH's more straight forward power metal sound, but I prefer this more complex and subtly progressive Kamelot-esque sound here...

Honestly that is a fantastic album. I'd even say it has better riffs, songwriting and production than Starspawn. My problem with it - and I didn't think I'd ever be saying this about an album - is that there's not enough content. 36 minutes across 4 tracks where half of that is one song, and of the remaining 3 one is basically an instrumental interlude. It's too little meat on the bone. Starspawn was actually shorter and also had an instrumental but even that felt like it had more to it; probably because it had 4 full songs on it and not 3. Even one more song on the album would have been enough to remedy this, IMO. Oh well, what is there is still great.

I've heard people say that, but it hasn't been the case for me. I feel like it's ruthlessly efficient and just does exactly what it needs to. It's almost kind of a novel idea, to have so few songs, but each one seems to fulfill the correct purpose.

Liturgy - HAQQ

Been in heavy rotation. Just a wonderfully arcane, weird piece of music. Really been unfolding for me every time.

Skullview - The Night of Metalkill

You'd think this would be some silly pretentious nonsense based on the cover artwork and songtitle, but this some serious heavy shit. That crushing guitar tone really helps bringing these crunchy riffs alive.

Alice Cooper - From the Inside

Way back when I never gave this album much of a listen. Just a few years ago I started reading the story on this album and how the album was based off of real people. I gave it another shot and it actually has become my favorite album by him.
