Better than I remember the debut being, but this is still a five minute song that feels like it's 10 minutes. Sounds like kinda passe radio rock.

Sadly right. Heard some of their songs. They don't even come close to later Maiden. Hopefully Bruce's solo album will be better. (Probably it will.)

Dream Theater - Erotomania

I think if they were an instrumental band I'd like them more.

Maybe if they had a better singer or were writing more solid vocal hooks it'd come off better. As is it sounds like stuff you'd hear at a shitty pub on a Sunday afternoon, except with really good production values.

Unfathomable Ruination - An Obsidian Perception

Got this album yesterday and have been most impressed. Artwork is a bit, ermm, striking let's say.

Devil You Know - The Way We Die

This is a pretty killer tune and Howard is still a great singer.

My Dying Bride - The Cry of Mankind

Is the outro overlong? Yes. But try listening to this with a decent pair of headphones in a dark room at night. The droning nature of the song is hypnotizing, with the piano line and Aaron's vocals in particular.

My Dying Bride - From Darkest Skies

A huge contrast to the first track. Aaron's vocals are heartbreaking here, and they amazingly manage to integrate violins and church organs without sounding over-the-top melodramatic.

I feel like LaBrie is a barrier for a lot of people. He can be ordinary on occasion, and boy some of his live performances are rough.

I always enjoy Labrie. He's got charisma.

The Chasm - The Omnipotent Codex

Playing Acerus and then this this morning... his guitar style is addictive as fuck and he's a great songwriter.

I don't know, not much of their music is as great as this track, which is just excellent all-around.

BTW, check out "Raw Dog" for another great one.

Enmity - Vomit Forth Intestinal Excrement (Re-issue)

This re-issue sounds the way the original should've sounded. The remixing and mastering made this EP go from unlistenable (though not 'bad' in a sense) to enjoyable. If you've never heard of Enmity, they're a band that tried to create the most 'brutal' death metal ever, and their attempts were pretty decent to say the least.

That is a standout for sure, though the whole thing kills.

Rush - The Fountain of Lamneth

This is a lot of fun actually. It's not got the rampant hooks as their next few albums did, but it's super adventurous and enjoyable.

In general I find them kind of lame, The always seem like what if 70's Rush was heavier but managed to rock less. And his crap vocals don't help. But this tune wasn't bad. I'd give it a 65%.

Midnight- Rebirth by Blasphemy.

From the initial singles I was a bit worried that this wouldn't be up to snuff like Sweet Death and Ecstasy, which I still find to be Midnight's weakest effort by a lot. I'm happy to report my feelings were unfounded. This is possibly Athenar's catchiest / most "melodic" stuff yet. "Fucking Speed and Darkness" is a killer opener, "Cursed Possessions" and "Raw Attack" are addictive Motörhead worship, "The Sounds of Hell" is like surf rock gone black metal, and the awesomely-titled "You Can Drag Me Through Fire" ends the proceedings with a slightly more epic and sleazily melodic mid-pace. Damn fine stuff all around.

I love Russ Anderson's vocals, and I always preferred Bostaph's drumming in Forbidden rather than Slayer though I can't put my finger on exactly why.

Thor - Only the Strong

One of the most constant albums I know. No ballads, no weak bullshit. Metal! So hard to put songs in their place. I guess I like them all equally. Doesn't happen often.

Ozzy Osbourne - Life Won't Wait

Unusually strong track for 21st century Ozzy. Harkens back to some of the No More Tears era stuff in an enjoyably hooky way. Nice bass lines from Blasko on this one too.

Classic Manowar has an undeniable charm.

Exivious - Liminal

Second masterpiece by this phenomenal fusion-metal band. It took me about 10 entire listens before this album started to really grow on me (their debut took even more, probably like 15), but damn was it worth it. Once you are familiar with the songs they become so much more beautiful and emotional. This album is now my second favorite of all time, my all-time favorite being this band's debut. I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you're patient and willing to spend a lot of time with an album, this is an absolute must-listen.

Morbid Angel - Memories of the Past

Morbid Angel often has a bunch of boring throw-aways as interludes, but this one is actually so beautiful. The track right after it is alright, as well. I just get kind of confused at their sequencing on almost every record.

Metallica - Kill Em All (OBVIOUSLY A CLASSIC).
Uriah Heep - Wake the Sleeper (Good! Great vocals).
James Gang - Yer Album
Siouxie & the Banshees - Superstition
Chickenfoot - 3 (about half-good, half filler! Normal for Sammy).

Sadus - Undead

The first 40 seconds of this song are basically just cracked out Iron Maiden.

Morbid Angel - Too Extreme!

Okay, so hear me out. I decided to revisit the entire Morbid Angel studio LP discography in full, in order. Up until today, I'd never heard ANY of this album. It's just as horrific as everyone has said, but I am making a pledge to complete it in one sitting.

Metallica - Bleeding Me

Hetfield dishing it out with Jason's thick bass giving a ton of ass. Lars' last good drum performance, yeah its not frantic but it shouldn't be.
