Marilyn Manson - Angel with the Scabbed Wings

One of his more metallic cuts. Love the drum patterns.

OM - Sinai

Is the chanting in the beginning a sample? Very haunting sounding.

Masked Intruder - Crazy

So obviously gimmicky, yet so damn fun.

Cradle of Filth - The Rape and Ruin of Angels

"Remember with pride what thou art
Lest we forget in awe of our terrible past"

Iconic line. I also love how the song is super-brutal but they still include that mellow part right after ("well-versed in misery...") with the sort of guitar playing that reminds me of Agalloch on Marrow of the Spirit.

Underrated stuff. Dark and catchy.

Falchion- Shadows in the Wasteland

What an absolute gem of a song, the whole album is great, but this song is a cut above. Shame they split up.

Usurper - Threshold of the Usurper

Absolute savage maniac shit, but with a real songwriting quality to it that separates it from other filthy extreme bands. There's just something so thoroughly exuberant and energized about these older, early albums by a lot of bands too. Something truly genuine.

Nails - No Surrender

Oh my god, this is fucking awesome. And that's all I've really got. Just... So good.

Well, I reckon there's a pretty good chance it'll be about gory tits.

Manilla Road - Enter the Warrior

Metal album sounds old and weird. One of their top albums for me.

Powerwolf - Fire and Forgive

Always confuses people not really into metal when I describe a band that 'has a lot of latin stuff going on' - they think I mean Mexican or something.

Master's Hammer - Jáma Pekel (from "Finished" demo)

Actually, I like this stuff even more than the one from the album. Here it's rawer and a bit slower, more triumphant and barbaric.

Eternal Griefs - My Endless Love (00:45 AM)

Black metal from Iran. I really really liked the first song when I previewed this on bandcamp, but haven't clung to much more beyond it.

Listening to some 2020 albums to see if I want to buy any of them

Currently Nightwish - Human :||: Nature - Harvest

The first few cuts were pretty good, but not sure about this one. So far I think I'd be better off getting a copy of Endless Forms Most Beautiful if I want a Floor era record.

Hecate - "Pervigilium Mortis"

Emotive melodic black metal with an epic feel. One of the stronger tracks from a strong album.

Jonsi - Swill
New Jonsi album is pretty good. I had no idea he was putting out somewhat electronic music this time around, because I didn't listen to the singles.

Now spinning Paradise Lost - Obsidian

Going to have to go pick this one up. Never gave these guys much time before and that was probably a mistake.

Thomas "Mork" Eriksen's podcast/interview with Fenriz

Less than an hour in, super fun. Fenriz is one of my favourite people, and for some reason I get massive satisfaction from the fact that he doesn't like Die With Your Boots On either.

Burning Witches - Six Feet Underground

Great melodies, great riffs, great vocals. Brilliant fun heavy metal, and with a great line in live covers too - I've never seen someone have so much fun with Holy Diver ! The singer is also excellent 'unplugged' (check her out on youtube).

Digging this one love the guitars following the blasting verses.

AFI - Fall Children

I feel like 25% of this song is WHOA OOOOOH OH! WHOA OOOH OH!, but y'know what, there's nothing wrong with that.

Horn - Where the Clarions Have Never Seized

I have a thing every early October:
Bake fresh pretzels, German beer and Horn.

Love this stuff.
So epic, like the sound of the German nature.

Esoteric - Non Being

Perfect song for 2020... it very much defines the year!

Its Halloween month so time to crank the Mercyful Fate and KD.

Mercyful Fate - 9

This album fucking smokes. Tons of great cuts and I think a good way to get someone into the King who may have trouble with the falsetto on earlier albums.

Kalmah- Moon of my Nights

It's fucking hilarious how one of the oldest reviews for Swampsong gave this album 5%, laughable.

Master's Hammer - The Jilemnice Occultist

I really long for these bands that are like nobody else. Master's Hammer have such a unique compositional style that predated so many other bands. This one has some real gloomy vibes and some interesting things going on songwriting-wise.

Proclamation - Hellbound Triumph.

Because sometimes you need myopic caveman blasphemous mayhem shoved into your ear holes.
