Green Carnation - Leaves of Yesteryear

Good as the new album is, at times I can't help thinking that 'Pallbearer do this thing better now'. It's nice enough, just isn't as great as their earlier work.

Innards - Night of the Anthropophagous

Good old school death metal, but it took me 6 looks to get the spelling of the title right.

Vader - Hexenkessel

Vader just does what they do so well. Digging this cut. Classic Vader riffage and blasting drums.

Blue Oyster Cult - s/t

I didn't know what to expect from this debut album, but it works - nicely laid back, psychedelia and groove-laced old rock. Some folky moments. I can dig it.

Nokturnal Mortum - Ukraine

Very high energy without getting silly, in particular during the verses. Excellent guitar solo.

Saor - Aura

Finally decided to bite the bullet and try these guys out - for a change I'm not disappointed by the artwork / press / concept. Often with atmo-BM it's all very high-brow until you get to the actual music. Saor are really, really good.

Chariot - Burning Ambition

Really love this record. Good way to get the day going, with something I don't have. That's ambition. I have no ambition.

Legend - s/t

Their first album rules too. Less listened here, and for no reason it seems.

I love it when bands know how to incorporate chugging intelligently into their music.

Armored Saint - Bubble

This is like Soundgarden's more upbeat moments mixed with a Metal Church flavoring. I didn't know it was what I needed right now.

Iron Maiden - Paschendale

Cruelty has a human heart
Every man does play his part
Terror of the men we kill
The human heart is hungry still

Chills every time. A WW1 movie plays in my head during the entire song.

Agalloch - The Lodge

As a Norwegian, I've been to many lodges, but never one where people wanted to listen to Agalloch around the fireplace. :(

2018 seems really nostalgic compared to this year.

Ancient - Her Northern Majesty

What a bizarrely out of place song. The rest of the album is goofy Cradle of Filth wannabe vampire blackgoth, and right in the middle of the presentation is this "Hail Norway!" song with triumphant chanting and a decidedly more epic atmosphere. It's just boring, and it does nothing but add to the hilarity that is Mad Grandiose Bloodfiends.

"Toringi" + "Louvia - die ewigen Wälder"

solid pagan metal, I think. My first experience with this band

Now playing

Vintersorg - Till Fjälls Album

Spiritus Mortis - Jesus Christ, Son of Satan

I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get around to listening to Sami with these guy’s, this whole album is a masterclass in true doom. A surprising amount of variety on this album, but it all works and it’s hard to choose favourites cause they’re all great!

This thread needs more of The Wizard.

This is godly. So much of this band is hit or miss, and when they miss, they miss BAD- but this track... when they absolutely nail it, it is truly a beautiful thing.

Brocas Helm - Drink and Drive

Defender of the Crown is quality over all. They don't take themselves too seriously like that band from New York.

Oshiego - Black Flags of Khorasan

Very good death metal with some thrash influences, and a surprisingly good, lively even, sounding drum programming (not too crazy about the bass drum sound though). These guys always knew how to construct a dynamic OSDM tune; the transitions and pace/rhythm shifts feel organic and very satisfying. The album this song appears on is not that good as Crossing the Bridge of Siraat. Still, very good stuff.

Oh yeah, if memory serves me right, one of the members of this forum, somefella I think, is in this band.
