:np: Hooded Menace - Cathedral of Labyrinthine Darkness

The Hood nails the atmosphere here. Few times will a song title actually reflect the musical experience, but this is one.

Disturbed - What Are You Waiting For

An Optimistic song for a new era and lets hope for a bright future ahead!

TSOL - Hit and Run

I had no idea they put out a hair metal record. I checked it out, to see how bad it was. It actually isn't that bad for this style of music.

Summoning - Over Old Hills

What a way to end an album! I don't even know what that "whaow" sound effect is supposed to be, but it sounds cool.

Pink Floyd - The Gunner's Dream

This record is pretty much a Waters solo album but man is it good.

Entombed - Left Hand Path

How can these Swedes make such angry music? They live in a beautiful country, have free college and the country is filled with beautiful women.

Unleash The Archers- Abyss

Kind of an overrated album for sure, some juicy cuts here and there though. Soulbound and Afterlife are pretty good.

Aethyrick - Apotheosis

Wasn't initially going to listen to the full thing but I stuck around. I probably won't go back to this but this it's a solid album and an improvement over their previous I would say.

Anthrax - You Gotta Believe

Unfortunately, this song is not about PaRappa the Rapper.

The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud ‎– The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud

Underrated dark ambient album with some pretty cool vocals. Planning on getting a CD very soon!

Thin Lizzy - Thunder and Lightening

Probably my favourite Lizzy album, endlessly playable, consistently great across all tracks.

Thunder and Lightning rocks!

Burzum - Enhver til sitt

Been a while since I've listened Fallen. Might like it even more than before.

Paramaecium - Exhumed of the Earth

Probably the only release that I listen to in this style of music and one of the few that outwardly called themselves Christian Metal. I remember some time back I went to learn some of the songs on this album, but the fuckers tune 3 steps down to B♭. Never had a guitar set up to do that, so it would actually stay in tune.

Runemagick - Resurrection in Blood

Used to dislike this album as it's by no means as aggressive as the previous two, but in hindsight it's still pretty good. Runemagick just take a far more restrained approach to their dynamic death metal style here.

The Quintessentials - Legends from the Grave

I don't do much on social media and when I decided to see what was going on with the band I found out the singer/guitarist died almost two years ago. Total bummer. The guy used to talk to me online all the time and was nice enough to send me a bunch of their music and merch on his dime. RIP.

New Model Army - Qasr El Nil Bridge

Tribal drum rhythms with a kind of mellow, mesmeric rock base over top - I can dig it.

They're always a summertime band for me. I like a few of the earlier ones better, but T&L is a monster.

Blind Guardian - The Quest for Tanelorn

I think I overplayed this back in the day but it's sounding good now. Quite regal. I wish the guitars were meatier like on the follow-up, but it's all pretty fucking on point. Those medieval climes seem clearer here. Overall it's all just about perfect, everything where it needs to be, though I find Imaginations to be more exciting these days.

Agreed. I don't listen to a lick of their music from October 1-April 30. This year I made an exception when we had a week of weather in November where it was 20-23 degrees.

Checking out the new Labyrinth now. Half way through, and so far the first track is my favourite.

Yeah they just have a summer-y sound - especially songs like "Dancing in the Moonlight."

Labyrinth - Welcome to the Absurd Circus

So far this is super heavy and kinetic stuff for them. Rob's voice seems like it's covered in a lot of layers, but the music is killer so far.

edit - It's good but after the huge variety and scope of the last one, it feels much more traditional. Not quite as catchy either. But might be a grower.

edit again - I like the last few songs. Some more sensitivity to mix it up. Quite nice.

Satyricon - The Pentagram Burns

I think this cut would have been perfect for when I was fucked up from a car accident and on a lot of heavy opiate painkillers. Its just got that grooving vibe. My go to was Celtic Frost's Monothiest at the time. Though I'm glad I shook off that horrible shit.

Therion - Tuonela

Marko's guest spot on this sounds more lively than his very few parts on the last two Nightwish albums. Maybe it was just time for the guy to move on from that band.

"Tales From the Twilight World" is slowly becoming my favorite BG album. It was "Nightfall in Middle-Earth" for the longest time, but I feel like that's changing. Both are great albums of course.

The Lord Weird Slough Feg - Traders & Gunboats / Psionic Illumination

Two amazing but very different from each other songs on the back half of Down Among The Deadmen that I'm always drawn to and have to play when I'm looking for a TLWSF fix.

Rush - The Trees

Is there anything I don't love about this cut? Lyrics, vocals, riffs, bass, drums? Fuck no its all amazing!

If I liked Cygnus a bit more this might be my #1 Rush record.

Entombed - Masters of Death

Knight's In Satan's Service! This is a very cool homage to the early day's of death metal. Serpent Saints is a kick ass bunch of fun album.

Draconian - Death, Come Near Me

If this song was any less gothic and melodramatic it would suck, but because they go all the way it works. It achieves its full potential in the absolute misery and sadness it creates for itself.

Laaz Rockit - Shadow Company

Fucking badass, gnarly thrash with a great melodic sensibility. Really shows me what thrash can be like with some great craftsmanship.

Neaera - Catalyst

Still holds up a year later. They really do a great job milking that one riff: play it fast for the verse, play it mid tempo for the pre-chorus, and then finally slow for that sick-ass breakdown.

Labyrinth - The Unexpected

I was right about it being a bit of a grower. It's not as varied or colorful as the last one but these are very strong songs. A high octane thrill ride of an album.
