Everyone's favorite extreme band is returning in June with their seventh album. Really excited for this.

From the promo: "On 2020's acclaimed "Stare Into Death And Be Still", New Zealand unorthodox Death Metal band ULCERATE moved towards a more melodious take on their crushingly unique brand of devastation. Continuing this evolution, upcoming seventh album, "Cutting the Throat of God," is a masterful seven-track journey through innovative and affecting Death/Black Metal. A strikingly all-encompassing work, the band combine experimental audacity and visceral power into a profound emotional experience.

The album was recorded between September and December 2023. Drummer Jamie Saint Merat took care of recording, mixing and all visuals. Magnus Lindberg, known for his work with CULT OF LUNA, RUSSIAN CIRCLES and TRIBULATION, handled the mastering. "Cutting the Throat of God" explores a cohesive lyrical theme centered around the rupture of morality, the delicate boundary between depravity and extremity, and the irreversible descent into darkness.

A first track, 'The Dawn is Hollow,' and pre-order details will be unveiled on March 14th. The album will be available on CD, vinyl, and digital formats, and is set for release on June 14th 2024."

Tracklist:
I. To Flow Through Ashen Hearts
II. The Dawn is Hollow
III. Further Opening the Wounds
IV. Transfiguration In and Out of Worlds
V. To See Death Just Once
VI. Undying as an Apparition
VII. Cutting the Throat of God

Spoiler: show

Cool. Looking forward to it.

That said, Cutting the Throat of God???? Really? What a terrible album title. Behemoth would never.

Goatwhore did it better years ago with Carving Out The Eyes of God which is still eh but was at least par for the course for that band.

New Ulcerate? Hell yes!

Can't wait for the release.

Oh, and I also frowned at the album title. Maybe it will make more sense when we get the lyrics to all the tracks, but upon first glance, it seems a bit off brand for Ulcerate.

Can't wait for it. But that title... man, what a piece of shit. Glen Benton must be proud lol.

The title isn't that bad. People cry about anything.

I think the last album sounded like Tool, but with Magnus Lindberg they might go full post rock.

No one's crying. More like eye rolling, frowning or laughing. That title is lazy/shitty.

Still stoked to hear some new Ulcerate.

P.S: Is the amalgamation of faces thingy in the art supposed to be God's throatless head?

I'm looking forward to this. I relistened to Stare Into Death and Be Still recently after not hearing it for some time. It still sounds great. Ulcerate are a strictly "sometimes" band for me, but I'm always having a good time when I hear them. I'm sure this album is going to be great.

Meh I never liked Ulcerate, every song sounds the same from them, basically self plagiarization. They remind me of atmospheric black metal, 5 minutes into a track I'm wondering why nothing's changed. They create some cool sounds or maybe a slightly interesting riff, but ultimately its all for mood/atmosphere. I'm guessing after 6 albums of doing the exact same thing that the 7th will also fit in with the rest.

I'll listen to it, but I tried getting into this band at one point and really didn't care too much for them. I did learn that I really do not care much for disso death through that experience, which was a good thing for me to learn. I did like their older stuff more.

Stare Into Death and Be Still was a slow grower, but I really went hard with it last year and it was cool to end the year by finally seeing them play most of it live. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Yes!!! Love their entire discography! Maybe a bit premature but no doubt it will be in contention for AOTY, that’s how confident I am, haha...though new stunning Vitriol album may have something to say about it, lol

Song sounds quite good. Is it my imagination or is it less chaotic than before, while still retaining that clear Ulcerate sound? Nevertheless, makes me keen to hear the whole thing.

This first demo is absolutely amazing! If the whole thing is on that level, I think it's going to be a strong contender for album of the year!

Fairly whelmed by the single. Sure all their stuff is just taking an element of EiF and leaning hard into, but this just seems like more Stare into Death, except maybe a little softer again? Doesn't have a hugely unique identity of it's own just yet.

I keep zoning out to the song, no matter how many times I play it. Their strength is in angular riffs, texture, and their excellent buildups. Melody? Probably their least interesting aspect, and this song seems to focus on that :ugh:

Also, what’s up with the 3DSMax tech demos as videos? lol

I am listening to Ulcerate's discography right now to know what to expect from this new album. Their albums got increasingly better with time, if you aren't convinced with the first two records, try the last ones, they are a little bit more centered and better thought. If you dig post-Obscura Gorguts, you will probably enjoy this band, they play a very jazzy and technical approach to death metal, more centered on tempo and rhythmic changes.

Awesome track. I don't really listen to Ulcerate much, but when I am in the mood for it, they sure are good at creating an atmosphere.

Didn't really enjoy that first single. The melodic break felt clunky to me but they are more of a full album band for me anyways so I'll wait for the whole thing.

Those unaware should check the new Verberis album coming out tomorrow. Jamie plays drums and it's incredible. Think dissonant black/death, Ulcerate + Deathspell Omega worship done right. Adumbration of the Veiled Logos was also a 10/10 album in my book. Both are out on NoEvDia.
