That CD wall really is awesome.

I don't have a very large collection, some 200 releases perhaps, on CD and tape. All metal or closely related genres (grind, neo-folk, dark ambient). I added most of it here to my profile, but unfortunately there's no way of seeing how large a collection is (does anyone happen to know, will that be added in v2 perhaps? In the same way the total of added bands shows beneath the profile page. Would be handy).

Thats exactly what happened to me. I started collecting 20 years ago, but when I got married and we had our first kid I stopped collecting. Im in my 40's now and since my finances have improved I started buying again.

I do/did have about 1600 CD's but I've just had a massive clear out and I've earmarked about 1000 to go on ebay (check the trade thread).

All killer no filler now.

Here's what it looked like:

Holy crap, that is a ton of discs. Our electronic collection hit 19,889 songs this month, but sadly only about 65% of that is metal.

I don't know how many CDs I have exactly. Most of my collection is in storage at my dad's place. I think I've got around 270 metal CDs. I have a large collection of good classical vinyl, thanks to eBay and some university music department liquidation sales. I also have about 350-400 non-metal CDs, mostly electronic, classical, early music, non-hippie folk, tango & other Latin American stuff, flamenco, experimental, krautrock, punk, ambient etc.

I used to have a lot more than I do now. I've been buying CDs regularly since about 1994, and I've probably sold about 400 albums in the past couple years.

According to my profile on record nerd:
5": 2
6": 1
7": 90
10": 2
12": 91
CD: 93
Tape: 127
DVD: 2
2x 12": 4
http://www.recordnerd.com/lists/reapersgrave

So I guess I'm currently at 412. I'm missing a few CD's, and a bunch of demo CD-R's that i've been too lazy to add, so probably closer to 450 range.

Still a small collection, but growing very fast.

This. Also not having vices like drinking, smoking, etc and no kids helps save A LOT more money than the average person spends. I make roughly twice as much income compared to expenses, so half of my month's paychecks can be devoted to my hobbies, which is mostly metal at this point, and my label.

This has almost inspired me to start collecting CDs. I know you can get them pretty cheap on eBay but not many send to Australia.

Might I suggest all of you collectors out there not to spend their money on rare ebay records to much since I'm quite sure those assholes bid on their own auctions. When someone is selling a rare album for the 5th time this is often because they cheated all the previous auctions.

I am quite sure about this because all I sold a year back, first time I sold instead of buying, I got ALOT less for them then I paid and it just ain't coincidence.

TRADE!

Here, metal is hard to come by, and usually expensive. For the first 3 years I was in metal, I bought everything from HMV, which was a pure fucking ripoff. $35-$48 per CD. In 2009, I found a metal shop here selling for $28-$32. But I am pretty careful about cash and only buy once I know for sure I like the album.

So I have 35 CDs, 33 of which are metal.
16 DM CDs, 12 BM CDs, 1 Megadeth CD (Countdown to Extinction), 4 Nightwish CDs and their End Of An Era DVD (I was a fan of Nightwish only from 2006 to mid 2008, from there I started on extreme metal)

Small collection for 3 years of metal, but hey, it's all mainstream and conformist bullshit here, and one word from my side: stingy.

I started collecting maybe 5-6 years ago and I've got maybe 250 cds, mostly metal, a few vinyl, tapes, etc. Some pretty rare stuff though. It's been slow as there's times I don't buy much for a while, not a lot of money.

284 albums total.
263 on the archives.
21 not on the archives.
2 digital.
82 count as some form of death metal.

The total number would be at least twice that, but I tend to purge my collection every once in a while. Most of what I've purged is mallcore crap I used to listen to before I got into real metal, or real metal that I didn't like.

EDIT: I've been collecting music for roughly four years now.

I own about 1,200 CD's, and I'm only 22 years old. I've slowed down quite a bit lately because I was buying faster than I could listen, and I just don't have enough room.

1203 LP's
104 CD's
422 Tapes

Have been collecting hard rock/ metal since the late 70's. A big chunk of my vinyl is considered rare, hard to find whatever. I only have it because I bought it new when it came out. I still really only play Vinyl, I just have the CD's for reviewing purposes from the zine I ran in the late 90's.

How large is my collection? Not as large as my wanted list.
:grumble:

But I'm still young. My main concern is getting them at a cheap price.

I'm only doing CDs though.

I have 300-400 CDs (I haven't bothered to count them recently), and I think 80% of that is metal, the rest being mostly hardcore/crust/d-beat and classic rock. I don't have a lot of vinyl yet. I don't even have a record player yet, though I'm planning to get one soon. I have 8 albums on 12" vinyl LPs, but I'm also planing to buy a lot more. I don't have tapes, since I don't see any use for them. I've only downloaded a few albums from iTunes, since they're currently out of print. My music DVD collection is also minimal, but I'd like to get some more, especially ones with documentaries on the band.

Just metal, 369 albums, less than twenty of which are death metal, power metal, thrash metal, gothic metal, or any hybrid thereof. It's pretty much all black, doom, drone, and a little folk. I'm so br00t4L... :D

Probably about 1200 total, my tastes are very eclectic, though metal is the biggest genre numbers-wise.

I have around 200 metal CD's right now. I never 'collected' any, most of them were just random buys. I'm 15 right now and I've been getting them since I was around 10, so thats a decent amount for that time.

Well, I easily have over 400 CDs, but I doubt more than half of that is metal. Naturally, I plan on buying many, many more over the coming months/years, however :p.

I own well over 1,000 CDs, 90% of which consist of metal (NWOBHM, thrash, death, black, and traditional heavy metal). I took a picture of my collection but I had to get too far away in order to get each rack of CDs in one picture. Thus, they aren't close enough and you can't really tell which CDs they are unless you really know what the sides of them look like. Maybe I'll post the pic later.
