The new album from France's nightmarish industrial doom outfit P.H.O.B.O.S. is now available! :hyper:

From the promo:

"P.H.O.B.O.S.’ third opus, “Atonal Hypermnesia“, is out.
The album has been designed, recorded and mixed by Frederic Sacri in Sapel Lomor studios, during 2010-2011.
Mastering has been processed by James Plotkin (ex-O.L.D., Phantomsmasher, Khanate, Khlyst, among others) in Philadelphia, USA.
This is the second release of Paris-based label Megaton Mass Products (PIKADON002LP), following albums “Tectonics” (Appease Me/Candlelight Records, 2005) and “Anœdipal” (Megaton Mass Products, 2008).

The official and only release is available as a double 140g vinyl gatefold edition, including CD version, limited edition of 300 copies.
Artwork and packaging design were held by graphic artist Stefan Thanneur, with thematic input from Frederic Sacri.

To immerse yourself in psychotic claustrophobic industrial blackened metallic doomscapes, « Atonal Hypermnesia » is the medium."

Awesome! Can't wait to hear this. Tectonics and Anoedipal are both fairly wondrous pieces of colossal industrial metal, so I do have high hopes.

Oh man I still haven't gotten Anoedipal, which is just a cardinal sin considering how much I love Tectonics.

And now this is out.

WELP THERE GOES MORE MONEY. NO I DIDN'T NEED TO EAT OR ANYTHING.

Shit, man, I even wrote a review talking about how this band needs more love. And that's why I feel so terrible about this.

My birthday's coming up, though, so I might blow the inevitable birthday checks on catching up here.

There's a bunch of people that like this band, even around here I'd suspect. Very unique crushing stuff, about as impersonal as music can get. They definitely deserve more attention than they have so far gotten though for sure.

Edit: And they really need to have just a CD release for this album, because while I like the band, I don't like them enough to shell out $20+ for a vinyl. I just don't like vinyl much at all really.

I love P.H.O.B.O.S. Would get this, but looks like I can't just get the CD version. Not interested in the vinyl. Would love the shirt. I'll get this when the CD version is available on its own.

Strange that he opted to go for this vinyl/cd package deal idea...doesn't really make much sense. Frustrating, too, because I'm one of those that has no interest whatsoever in the vinyl edition. I suppose one could always sell the vinyl and keep the cd. Might end up doing just that.

This band absolutely requires being played as loud as fucking possible. Always stoked just when I see the name on the shelf, let alone preceded by the word "new". fuck yes.

Okay, so I got my package in the mail today. 2LP, CD, and shirt. First off, the CD doesn't come with it's own case. It's just in a plastic sleeve. I guess all the design work went into the vinyl, which means this is probably meant to be a vinyl release. Good for vinyl heads, bad for me. Regardless, the CD works and it's playing now.

I'm nearly through the second track now, but Atonal Hypermnesia is really scaled back. It's not as dense or aggressive as their first two releases. They've gone for more of a spacious feel - a decision which is going to disappoint a lot of people. I'm not exactly disappointed totally, but it's certainly a huge step away from what they have done in the past.

They still play slow, brooding industrial doom metal, though, so that part is still intact.

The shirt is kind of badass, too.

I think this one will need more listens. I don't know if it'll live up to Tectonics or Anoedipal, but once I digest it some more, Atonal Hypermnesia might still be a worthy listen.
