I have a question regarding the matrix code of a CD copy of Epicus Doomicus Metallicus by Candlemass that I own.

The barcode matches what is reflected on their Metal Archives entry (0 3382-19882-2 6), and it states "Black Dragon/Leviathan Records Candlemass Epicus Doomicus Metallicus LD 1988-2" on the spine, but the matrix code doesn't match anything I found in the Archives (8 - or possibly B - 326 X14068, and then some mirrored letters that only appear correctly when the disc is turned over, which are IFPI L531).

Bootleg? I'm thinking so at this point.

I can't get a good image of the matrix and needed a flashlight just to be able to read it.

Looks original from what I can see.

That's strange that it has a different matrix number, then. Thanks.

Candlemass was/is fairly popular, it's likely you're going to have multiple matrix's that match that spine and barcode. If you look at more popular acts like Testament or Megadeth you can have 10-15 different matrix numbers on releases for one spine/barcode number. Your disc raw materials and matrix makeup likely point to a 90's re-issue.

Ah, that makes sense. I thought the Leviathan/Black Dragon version had a limited run.

A sort-of collection/CD rarity related question. I am hunting for a copy of Celtic Frost's "To Mega Therion" - I want it non-remastered and I heard different things about two versions:

1. The original 1986 Combat/Noise CD pressing - I heard both good and bad things about this one regarding the sonics. Some people said it sounded excellent - like the original vinyl. Other people said this is one of the worst versions of this album - noisy, no clarity, no mid-range.

2. The 1993 Futurist re-release - this was almost universally praised as far as sonics go.

I would love to hear some opinions on the 1996 Combat/Noise pressing if somebody has one/heard it and can give me his/hers opinion on the audio quality of that particular release.

I don't think they started messing with the sound of that album until the late 90's. The 1987 issue and the 1993 re-issue shouldn't be different. I have an original 1987 cd pressing but not a 1993 to compare to.

Great. How does the 1987 issue sound? I heard that it had problems.

All Celtic Frost has problems. The problem is the band sucks :-D

You'd be better off asking someone who is a fan of them, I hate them nearly as much as I do Voivod. Comparing it sound wise to other things during that time, it's muddy and thin.

Print quality seems off and no slipcover which it's supposed to have according to here and Discogs. Is the Irond release actually legit to begin with?

Irond is a legit Russian label and your press is a proper Irond issue.

Yes, Irond is legit, but I have doubts about that cd. It is done in 2004, according to Discogs info, but matrix form of Irond releases from that period was different. And they don't have any rights for reissues.

One thing that was very consistent with Irond was that inner ring engraving. I have a bunch of Irond stuff from vaious years, I'll see if I can find some of mine to compare. Maybe someone from Russia can weigh in.

Some Irond releases rise price, so someone started to reissue them. Maybe even Irond himself, but they don't have any rights for that, so these should be considered as bootlegs. Main difference is matrix code, otherwise releases look quite good.

Any info on this 1993 Japanese pressing of the Armored Saint debut? Asking because the inner ring seems different than on other copies of this one that I have seen.

Thanks! Any other opinions on the CD (by someone else preferably)?

Also - an additional question - have the early Japanese pressings of Iron Maiden albums (the Black Triangle series) been ever bootlegged? I do not recall them as such but you never know.
