I can't wait to see what else Harris has to offer. That album artwork is just great, as well.

I expect it to be me more in the 70's prog rock vein, something like Wishbone Ash or Jethro Tull, for example.

Generic though they might be, at least there's none called 'Superretard', right? That would be unfortunate.

Complaining about generic song titles from guys who invented the metal genre as we know it seems a bit stupid. I think the pedigree gives them the right to title their songs stuff like that, and half of those aren't really generic at all.

Yes! Although it is surprising to see him wait this long to release a solo album it also makes sense: As Maiden's members near 60 and their career draws to a close, this expresses the accumulated experience of a golden career, as well as a reflection on said experience. I know Maiden isn't going away anytime soon but if they were this would prove an excellent swansong. Now if only Ian Hill would do the same.....

I remember reading that his favourite band is (or at least was) Genesis, so I can definitely see a 70s prog tilt on parts of this.

Yeah, I'm aware of his admiration for old prog rock bands. It's just that I never actually pictured him playing that sort of music, but now I did, and it has a lot of potential to be awesome. Harris certainly has the chops to play progressive music, so it's a matter of seeing how good the songwriting is.

So Adrian Smith has Primal Rock Rebellion and Steve Harris will have British Lion. Come on, Bruce, it's been 7 years since Tyranny of Souls! Don't let them have all the fun!

The song titles aren't that bad when stacked against other stuff we saw this year like "followed home, then killed" and most of the titles on the Sonata Arctica. Didn't like the last Maiden album, but it's Sreve Harris, it should be an automatic listen for fans of Heavy Metal.

If nothing else, I'd pay attention to this album for the bass work. I'm pretty distant from the last two Maiden albums, so I'm not entirely sure how Harris has kept his autonomy. Here's hoping that I'm right, though.

I have a feeling this'll either sound exactly like Maiden with different vocals, or be one of those lame ass rock albums metal musicians tend to make when they go solo. I'm hoping for Maiden sounding stuff. I mean, he practically writes all their stuff anyway, but that awful album cover sort of leans towards generic rock.

Interesting but not my scene. Much rather have a heavier Maiden album but I doubt that is ever going to happen again...

Really? I like it, but it is very Celtic looking, kind of weird with such a title.

Anyways, I'd like to hear some tracks. I guess nothing is up anywhere yet.

Invent the metal genre? Seriously? They may have done it better than most, but they certainly didn't invent it.

Exactly. The only thing I can see happening with this album - if it just isn't whatever "epics" were left after the last Maiden CD hit the 78min mark - is that it'll have that "working class" (term used very loosely) vibe that say, newer Saxon does. Overproduced, aging biker rock. blegggghhhhh.

It doesn't matter what it is - people will lap it up just because it's Steve Harris. Of course, he knows this well and I don't blame him for making the most of the generosity of metalheads and using their money to fund his latest garage renovations or his daughter's private school education.

I'm kinda looking forward to this. I actually like the titles and the cover. Sure it reeks of general rock but I do not think that it's bad. If Harris sticks to his Thin Lizzy, UFO, Wishbone Ash and Genesis influences this bound to be a cool record. If anything we might get some great basslines out of this.

I don't see how you'd come to that conclusion without hearing the music, just seems silly. The recent Maiden stuff is all quality and until we hear any music that sounds lackluster I'm keeping an open mind about this. Maiden is one of the only remaining classic metal bands putting out great stuff in 2012.

It is great. They've gotten back all the momentum they lost in the 90s and are putting out passionate, sweeping epic music. Can't really see why people around here think otherwise, to be honest, but oh well, what can you do.

I don't know why everyone thinks that Steve Harris is only capable of playing Iron Maiden-esque music. He's been a musician for 50 years, surely has a ton of material built up over that time that he hasn't used and this will, like many here have said, be something far removed from Maiden. I expect it will be a proggy rock album, bass-heavy, with intricate bass lines and none of that "gallop" which has been such a blessing and detriment to so many maiden tracks.

I do hope you're right; I think he has the ability to pull off some excellent progressive music and in many ways Maiden might be a limit to the extent of his creativity. I for one have not much bad to say about latterday Maiden but on the other hand I never feel the urge to listen to it at all.
