There's only one metal band named Death and everyone knows them.

Cannibal Corpse...you mean zombie?
Prostitute Disfigurement - I don't get misogynist names, it's just childish.
Lich King - I've always found WoW to be lame, so it carries over.
Pittbulls in the Nursery - Oh dear, let's not have that.

Vaginal Quicksand is the worst ever bandname. Ever. Too bad they are excellent, though. Portishead-sounding triphop brewed with langorous black metal melodies and bass riffs that only can be described As Pure Fucking Doom Metal. The vocalist's rasp reminds me a bit of Greg Allman, too.

Raytownian mentioned his own band, so I think I'll throw my hat into the ring there. I tried to start a djent band with some friends from school and failed. We were going to be called Nascent Truth. Sounds pretty damn pretentious to me, but Nascent wouldn't be a bad name on its own. (For the record, my own idea for a name was "Valley of Slaughter", which is from a Bible verse, so criticize as you will.)

Cannibal Corpse.
I honestly think it's a badass name for a band,
Simply because it sounds brutal & is fun to say.
But when you really think about it,
Cannibal Corpse is a pretty stupid band name.
It's like they just chose two random words that
Sounded ”Bro0tal” and put them together.
Cannibal Corpse makes just as much sense as
”Eaten Back To Life” (how can you eat yourself back to life if your dead?)

Another one is, Circle of Dead Children.
It's like they wanted to choose something
So extreme & brutal, but instead it just ended up cheesy.

Metallica.
They are one of the best metal bands ever!
But seriously? What the hell is a ”Metallica”?
I'm pretty sure it's just some made up word.

It's a real word. It means "metal" in Spanish, although the original Spanish word only has one L and not two.

Its not two random words put together....its a human corpse that eats humans....so basicly, yeah....zombie; but seriously, whats sounds better as a band name "Zombie" or "CC"??

I just dont see how so many people mention CC here, its a good band name.
And even if you dont like it, its still very FAAAR away from being one of the worst.

I think Circle of Dead Children is an awesome name. I don't think "stupid brutal" when I hear it, I think "twisted as fuck". I mean, if they just wanted to be brutal, they could've gone with Splattered Babies or Pile of Dead Children or whatever, but dead kids arranged in a circle? For some weird ritual, or from a fucked up dream or something? That's creepy as fuck dude.

I generally think band generic band names like Suffocation or Death or Immolation are bad. Don't get me wrong, Immolation is my favorite band and Suffocation is fantastic (don't care for Death though), but the name? Nah. Stupid shit like all the generic dark/winter/satan BM names and the ultra brutal sex/murder/entrails/pathological BDM names are just that, stupid shit.

Generally my favorite names are stuff like Marduk, Shaarimoth, Anaal Nathrakh, Akercocke, Nyarlathotep, Shub Niggurath - stuff that either doesn't have generic meaning or points to something 'more', whatever it's religion (like the name of old timey Summerian/Babylonian gods, like Marduk or Shaarimoth - if it was just "Avenging Angel" which I just made up or something equally lame, that might point to something 'religious', I'd think it would suck) or mythology/art - like how Shub Niggurath is from the Lovecraft mythos.

I also like names that are derived from 'generic' / normal words, but changed - like Abyssal or Ulcerate for example.

U mad? 80% of these names are really cool and have proper meanings.

Now to the topic:
Bullet For My Valentine, Bring me the Horizon, Children of Bodom, I wrestled a bear once, Attack Attack - Shitty names, shitty bands.

Anything with Slaughter is generic and overdone.

Sticking strictly to metal, and not veering off into the deliberately poorly named -core bands, 'Eyehategod' has always irked me for some reason. It's one of those things that someone thought was much more clever than it actually ended up being. I don't find it offensive, not being religious; I just think that it's not nearly as smart as whoever named that band thought it was.

I know what it means. It's related to the murders at Lake Bodom, Espoo. Still don't know why I find the name absolutely dull just like their music.

I typically hate the pretentious adjective/noun combo band names. Stuff like Purulent Infection, Tainted Grace, Mortified Saint, Cadaverous Incarnate, etc.

Also, band names that use an ellipsis rub me the wrong way like Make A Change...Kill Yourself, Fuck...I'm Dead, ...And Here I Lie, or my personal favorite of shitty band names: ...

Too true! Names like Tinieblas, Naeblis and Anaal Nathrakh make us thinking of porn and sex; Behemoth means Hippo in Russian...
Von is what we saying when we want somebody to leave us immediately (like "Get out") or we want to show the way where is something (like "Here").

Speaking of worst band names, I should say:
- Female Nose Breaker. Even for slamming brutal death band.
- Iron Steel - what?!
- Extreme Napalm Terror - too obvious relations to you know which bands.

"Mother tongue" is a synonym for someone's native language.

I can't decide if it's the best or worst name ever...

This one's pretty good too: http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Soc ... 3540328507

The Indonesians have a talent for amusingly terrible, vaguely Engrish band names.

I love how they're trying to look so serious too. If it were a band from anywhere but Indonesia (or the Philippines), I'd assume it was a joke name, but I really don't think it is in this case.

It's BDM. It was a joke from the very onset.

Even the album title is funny. Primordial Uncouth...like, it's not Primordial Wild, or Primordial Rage, but just Uncouth - a very minor, acceptable form of digression from the norm. Don't get too crazy guys.

I was at the Comatose Records website doing some shopping for myself and came across "Hot Buttered Anal".

That is cringeworthy yet at the same time kinda funny. The fact their CD artwork has peanuts on it only adds to it.

I don't know why I insist on thinking Darkthrone is such a boring name but it is. So is Bathory, Bulldozer and a lot of other early black metal names.

Aside from that, I love Eagles of Death Metal but it's really a terrible name. Foghat, Guns N' Roses, and Type O Negative are all notably bad names.

Marduk, while a fitting name, just sounds stupid no matter how you pronounce it.

Finally, I noticed a lot of people hate the name Soundgarden for one reason or another. I'm grown accustomed to it, so I can't remember much about whether or not I liked the name, but I do recall it being a little pretentious I thought that if you're a band that has the word music or sound or radio or something sonicly inclined in it then you better be a damn amazing band. Soundgarden is good, but I don't think good enough or broad enough to have a name like Soundgarden, plus there are more fitting names.

"Manilla Road"

Never found this sounding very metal. Not that it is a must for a metal band, but still, it 'feels' unfitting.

I can agree or at least symphatise with your latter point, but seriously, if you think a band name consisting of an adjective followed by a noun is pretentious, then what kind of names do you like?

I like simple, effective names like Destruction, Immolation, Horna and Anathema, but there are awesome names like Morbid Angel, Impaled Nazarene and Ashen Light. I really don't understand why they're pretentious. They're quite usual, and many excellent names follow that formula.

The band wasn't the epitome of metal when it started, anyway. The name was, according to a later Shelton interview, something they came up with in early morning drunken stupour, supposed to mean the road of light or something to that effect.
