These lists have been great, found a lot of good stuff.

I've nailed down five albums that I've listened to over and over -

Amorphis - Circle
Votum - Harvest Moon
NAMI - The Eternal Light of the Unconscious Mind
The Prophecy - Salvation
The Ocean - Pelagial

Yeah, thanks, guys!

Ok, I could not work on my list yet but at the moment (in no particular order):
http://viviendoapesardelacrisis.blogspot.com.es/2014/01/mejores-discos-del-2013.html

-(2013) Skagos - Anarchic: Sincere and organic. Makes me remember how good the (2010) Skagos & Panopticon Split was.

-(2013) Summoning - Old Mornings Dawn: 7 years since (2006) Summoning - Oath Bound and I like this one more.
http://viviendoapesardelacrisis.blogspot.com.es/2013/04/2013-summoning-old-mornings-dawn.html

-(2013) Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork: Despite some songs, I could NOT entirely get into (2007) Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris but this one has been easier.

-(2013) Cliff Martinez - Only God Forgives (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack): What a film and what a soundtrack!
http://viviendoapesardelacrisis.blogspot.com.es/2013/11/solo-dios-perdona.html

-(2013) Vestiges & Panopticon (Split): I still prefer the Vestiges part and that's A LOT to say.

-(2013) Inquisition - Obscure Verses For The Multiverse: All hail the hypnotoad! LOL! Still, I find it slower than the previous ones and I enjoy (2010) Inquisition - Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm better.

-(2013) Gris - À l'Âme Enflammée, l'Äme Constellée: They did it again! Better than (2007) Gris - Il Etait Une Foret?

-(2013) Extremoduro - Para Todos Los Públicos: Another good album full of poetry.
http://viviendoapesardelacrisis.blogspot.com.es/2013/11/2013-extremoduro-para-todos-los.html

-(2013) Carcass - Surgical Steel: Not bad but not the comeback album people was expecting.
http://viviendoapesardelacrisis.blogspot.com.es/2013/06/2013-carcass-surgical-steel.html

-(2013) Vista Chino - Peace: Not bad at all and mantains the spirit after quite some years!
http://viviendoapesardelacrisis.blogspot.com.es/2013/08/2013-vista-chino-peace.html

-(2013) Theoria - Mantra: Atmospheric Black Metal from Aleppo (Syria). It works!

-(2013) Wędrujący Wiatr - Tam, Gdzie Miesiąc Opłakuje Świt: Someone recommended this for fans of (1994) Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse but I don't think so.

-(2013) Deafheaven - Sunbather: Too much postrockish for my tastes.

-(2013) Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle: I don't think they contribute to nothing new to what Summoning does and since they do it better...

-(2013) Ihsahn - Das Seelenbrechen: Never could get into his solo stuff.

-(2013) Kavinsky - OutRun: Disappointment after his (2010) Kavinsky - Nightcall EP.

...

It's really been that long since Oath Bound? Wow. Feels like only a few years since that was released....

If I gave enough of a fuck to write up a list of all the records I dug from last year then this would be on it.

Cülo - My Life Sucks and I Could Care Less LP
Not sure if the title is an intentional misuse of that saying (COULDN'T GODAMNIT) but they're obviously pissed so maybe they're just being clever... that's what I'll tell myself. Grammatical errors aside, this thing is a fucking rager front to back and contains some of the most pissed vocals this side of Despise You. Furious hardcore absolutely dripping with venom and played tighter than a priest's asshole in an elementary school... which would be radical all on it's own but these dudes have a seemingly Ramones-esque ability to inject an absurd amount of catchiness into these 60 second blasts of vitriol which take it over the top. Choice cut is a tie between Sick Sick Sick (those tamborines and organs are too perfect) and Don't Care pt.3

You can stream the whole thing here.

From all i remember to be heard by myself in 2013 these are albums that my memory retain with more satisfaction.

Appalachian Winter - Ghosts Of The Mountain (Symphonic Black Metal), I only discovered Appalachian Winter in 2013.
Armory - Empyrean Realms (Power Metal), i thought that they never do anything like The Dawn of Enlightenment, but they made it.
Arrayan Path - IV:Stigmata (Epic Power Metal), this never dissapointed me by now.
Civil War - Killer Angels (Heavy/Power Metal)
Derdian - Limbo (Power Metal), outstanding.
Dracovallis - On The Road Of Mystery (Symphonic Metal), i love his music.
Elessär - Dark Desires (Symphonic Power Metal), from Argentina, i love symphonic power metal from Argentina.
Escapist - Hidden Memories (Symphonic Power Metal), once again, from Argentina.
Gloryhammer - Tales From The Kingdom Of Fife (Symphonic Power Metal).
Gwydion - Veteran (Atmospheric/Symphonic Black Metal, Folk/Viking Metal), these portuguese band surprise me with his viking sound.
Iron Mask - The Son of Winterdoom (Power Metal), isn't better than his antecessors, but i like it.
Kaledon - Altor, The King's Blacksmith (Power Metal).
Keldian - Outbound (Power Metal), always great.
Operadyse - Pandemonium (Symphonic Power Metal), disputing the first place with Marching For Liberty by Wisdom.
PelleK - Ocean Of Opportunity (Symphonic/Progressive Power Metal), fabolous.
Sage's Recital - Sage's Recital (Neoclassical/Symphonic Heavy Metal,Shred), to me with only a but, bad production.
Signum Regis - Exodus (Progressive/Power Metal), Signum Regis is Signum Regis.
Summoning - Old Mourning Dawn (Epic/Atmospheric Black Metal), the don't do anything bad.
The Barque Of Dante - Lasting Forever (Symphonic Power Metal), from China, and i enjoy this album like his antecessor.
Wisdom - Marching For Liberty (Heavy/Power Metal), to me the best of 2013, this hungarian band are great.

Yes, i 'm fan of Power and Symphonic Metal.

I feel in a position to do a top list now after catching up with some I missed out. (Contains a lot of non metal, deal with it) Top 18, even though that's not a round number, they were my favourites.

18.Immolation - Kingdom of Conspiracy - another good tech-death album, not as great as their best work, but good nonetheless
17.Amon Amarth - Deciever of the Gods - More of the same, but a lot better than Sutur Rising lots of great catchy melo-death tracks
16.Autopsy - The Headless Ritual - I've always enjoyed Autopsy's slow and crushing sludgy sections in their death metal, and while this isn't another Acts... it's a good album
15.Johan G Winther - eating or vomiting its tail - really intense noise album, creates a real wall of sonic obliteration
14.Aeronaut - Your space transmissions listening kit - really nice spacey ambient/drone. Creates a sense of isolation, it's really beautiful.
13.Ulver - Messe I.X – VI.X - Just another great innovative Ulver release, very cinematic and grand sounding.
12.Suffocation - Pinnacle of Bedlam - fast and brutal, another great suffocation release
11.Black Sabbath - 13 - Big surprise how brilliant this is, sounds like an amalgamation of the classic ozzy era and the devil you know.
10.The End of the World Championship - In Slow Motion - monolithically heavy synth drone.
9.Satyricon - Satyricon - I love this, the epic sprawling riffs really make the album.
8.Revamp - Wild Card - Floor Jansen's at her absolute best, and the lyrics concerning her burnout make it really emotional. It's heavy as fuck for symphonic metal, and the guest appearances are great.
7.Voices - from the human forest create a fugue of imaginary rain - formed from the ashes of Akercocke, this is a brilliant progressive death metal release.
6.SubRosa - More constant than the Gods. My metal album of the year, incredibly innovation sludgy doom. Brilliant throughout.
5.cloud Rat - Moksha - simply one of the best grindcore bands ever. Incredibly emotional, and the slight shoegaze influences work really well. Fantastic vocal delivery by Madison.
4.My Bloody Valentine - M B V - surprise of the year. Never expected another MBV album, but this is fantastic. In another way has the best riff of the year.
3.Anneke Van Giersbergen - Drive. Another fantastic pop rock album, the devin influence is really present on a lot of the tracks, and Anneke's voice is brilliant.
2.Deafheaven - sunbather - Everything's been said about this album already, it's simply brilliant.
1.The Gathering - Afterwords. Introspective, cinematic and brilliant,TG take on post-rock and trip-hop and deliver an excellent atmospheric release.

In terms of live albums/DVDs, Devin Townsend's Retinal Circus, Nightwish's showtime storytime, and Dead Can Dance's In Concert were all really great.

What about happy power metal in 2013?
Have I become too particular, or were there really no noteworthy releases?

There were great releases from Cyntia, Serenity, Helloween, Stratovarius, Battle Beast (close enough), and Keldian last year.

Heimdall's 'Aenid" was pretty decent. Oh crap, that one wasn't terribly happy. Its worth giving a shot, at any rate.

There's quite a few Japanese power metal albums released in 2013 I liked (and I'm still playing catch-up).

Hmmm, didn't like any of those. It's just not heavy. It mostly sounds like AOR with beefed up guitars. Now, I like AOR as much as the next guy, I don't like fence-sitters though.

Surprised the new Kalmah slipped by with such little fanfare on here. It is at least as good and more melodic than 12 Gauge, albeit less heavy (Probably due to the prodution, though).

Happy?

Has the term power metal lost ALL it's meaning? I'm talking about bands like Nocturnal Rites, Labyrinth, early Edguy, the first Sonata Arctica, and of course the Keepers albums. THAT'S power metal.
Seems like every band is this style has gone "progressive", which means lots and lots of keyboards and chugging guitars, and it sucks!

Album was good, but it wasn't that great. Not saying I hear better female fronter pm all the time but the album could have been better.

There's almost nothing I don't like about it. I'm glad it seems to have a small bit of notoriety, even if it's just P666, reiter, and myself.

I'm amazed I haven't burned myself out on "Scenes of Infinity" yet - I played that thing 40-45 times now haha That album was also my "most pleasant surprise" of the year too, mainly because they had quite a line-up upheaval (losing their drummer and guitarist). That plus Fuki joining Doll$boxx made myself (and a few others) rather concerned for their future. Fortunately those fears were dismissed big time.

Art of Gradation is pretty good too. They're formed by 3 ex-Light Bringer members... they're a bit more melodic, straight-forward and upbeat than Light Bringer ("Light Bringer"-lite?) Not quite a throwback to "Tales of Almanac", but its closer to that than anything.

For "happy/flowery" power metal, Albion is one of my favorites at the moment. I played the living fucking christ out of their 1st single. Their upcoming album "Campanula" is my most anticipated album at the moment.

 I think it lacks bite. It's just too darn cute. Maybe I do have become particular in my old age?

Oh God, I love Floor Jansen, and she puts out some of her best work
here. The title track is especially memorable and irresistible.

I completely agree with this and recommend it to everyone and anyone, no matter what your favourite genres are. Plus, Floor always sings with such emotion and meaning, it is just mesmerizing... Damn I wish I could sing like that woman!
