The emergence of a new band named VHÖL has recently been announced, featuring members of Ludicra (2 members), Hammers of Misfortune (also two members), Agalloch and YOB. There haven't been any samples released yet, but this should certainly be interesting. On facebook, the only band they list under "Artists We Also Like" is Discharge, which could imply a hardcore vibe (something I hope is true). It's really cool that John Cobbett is on guitar, I loved his work in Ludicra. Mike Scheidt of YOB will handle vocal duties. If you haven't already noticed, many of these people are already/were in bands signed to Profound Lore, who will be releasing VHÖL's music.

Here's their facebook page:

I hope it's more in a hardcore direction that would be awesome.

The description "sonic catharsis" and genre "crushing" on the info page don't really make me think hardcore, but it does make me excited to hear the band.

Well this looks rather interesting, I look forward to hearing it in the future.

Just going off the influence of being like Discharge. I don't visit facebook since I have no facebook. But crushing and sonic catharsis can be used to describe some hardcore bands i've heard before.

All these super groups have been pretty sub-par. Twilight, Dead Languages, Arson Anthem, etc. Little hope for this, but whatever; I'll check it out for sure

I liked Twilight & Arson Anthem... the one I thought was very lack luster was Birds of Prey. the first one had some decent songs but the 2 after are just phoned in same ol same ol.

I've heard third hand that it's "math-y black metal." Not sure what to make of that but it's a pretty killer lineup so I'm looking forward to it

The album will be released in April and the first song is up:
http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/14982-grace/

I really dig the song, some nice riffy USBM sounding stuff with a healthy dose of hardcore punk (which especially come out in Aesope's drumming). I'm predicting the album will be pretty good.

Kind of reminds me of a punkier Ludicra, which is likely the result of John Cobbett writing the riffs. His songwriting style is immediately recognizable and it's all over this song, and that's a good thing in my book.

Nice cover, it looks like something Philippe Druillet could have drawn.

That's a very great post, thanks for sharing!

I really liked the song, can't wait to hear the full album. Mike S. can't do no wrong and the presence of Cobbett is a huge plus.

Just thought I'd share this little write up by Profound Lore Records. It reveals the tracklist and talks about influences and the forming of the band:
