No, this isn't a metal request, but I figured some of you may be able to answer this. Plus I couldn't be bothered to find a jazz forum.

I've hit that time of life where I've started to enjoy free jazz, and I've found that the stuff I enjoy the most is a duet between a drummer and one other instrument (usually sax). I really like the stripped-back sound of this setup. Any more than that (trio, quartet etc) there's too much going on. The following examples are perfect representations of what I'm after:

John Coltrane & Rashied Ali "Interstellar Space" (1967)
https://youtu.be/TkrMkxIGti0

Rashied Ali & Frank Lowe "Duo Exchange" (1972)
https://youtu.be/rB1BEAGuGQI

And this live set of David S. Ware & Rashied Ali (2001)
https://youtu.be/T6HK2ZwhDOE
https://youtu.be/MZTbB5c8hjU
https://youtu.be/R79cW1u0jUg

Obviously, the common link between all these is Rashied Ali, but there must be other drummers out there who did this?

So, any more free jazz/improv albums that only feature a drummer and one other player? Thanks in advance.

Wadada Leo Smith released this year a 5Cd box-set of Trumpet-Drums duet: https://www.discogs.com/es/release/2358 ... rald-Duets

Hey, thank you! Whilst those vids don't seem to be available for me, it did lead me to another Wadada Leo Smith album called "The Blue Mountain's Sun Drummer" with Ed Blackwell. Which in turn lead me to a Don Cherry album "Mu" with the same drummer. So yeah, good call.

Wow, loads of great recs in there. Max Roach & Anthony Braxton in particular is amazing. And I'm still exploring the Wadada Leo Smith rabbit hole, so I've got lots to keep me busy!

Thank you so much for the recs. :)
