Looking for some symphonic black metal that does both at once, rather than alternating. Like, most symphonic BM bands have a symphonic segment then followed by a regular BM segment. Im looking for someone that does both at once. Kinda like Anaal Nathrakh with their operatic vocals over blast beats.

Also, im wondering if there is a happy counterpart to DSBM. Like Power Black Metal?

Listen to Witchcraft by Obtained Enslavement, Drudenhaus by Anorexia Nervosa and Moon in the Scorpio by Limbonic Art.

Can you tell me what are some of your favourite black metal albums from the past 5-10 years? I kinda fell off black metal wagon and I have no idea where to start again. I'm looking for something fresh and interesting to listen (please don't recommend clone bands).

Thanks!

Uada; Devoid of Light
Батюшка; Панихида (Batushka; Panihida)
There's Always Blood at the End of the Road; Wiegedood
Cultes des Ghoules; Henbane

Speaking of Cultes des Ghoules. I'm looking for recommendations of artists who really get immersed into their assumed personas/storytelling. Concept musicians if you will. CDG and Mutiilation are what come to mind. Not looking for NSBM. Thanks.

Here are my favorites:
Auðn - Vökudraumsins Fangi
Anything album from Wiegedood's discography, they're all pretty good.
Helleruin - War Upon Man

this is some of the best BM from recent years, 100 % innovative, original and generally refreshing stuff:

mgla - with hearts towards none and especially exercises in futility
akitsa - credo
both forlorn winds albums
grole - with a pike upon my shoulder
Óreiða – Óreiđa
wagner ödegard - om kosmos och de tolv järtekn
plague organ - orphan
Këkht Aräkh – Pale Swordsman
regnans - serpent sheds its skin
ulvegr - vargkult (while this one is not truly original stuff, it's still killer and highly recommended).

I haven't paid as much attention the last few years but a few that I keep coming back to are:

Minenwerfer - Alpenpasse
Beketh Nexehmu - De Fördolda Klangorna
Misþyrming - Söngvar elds og óreiðu
Fluisteraars - Bloem

Also I've spent a lot of time with most of into_the_pit's list so I'm looking forward to checking out Grole, Plague Organ and Regnans now, thank you!

you're welcome. if you enjoy that regnans, check out the other projects that guy is involved in (especially advanced hatred and moon labyrinth, both are amazing as well). that guy is one of my favorite songwriters in BM from recent years.

not sure how obscure exactly you mean if you don't give a frame of reference, but here's a few recs, from not so obscure to pretty much obscure:

obtained enslavement - witchcraft:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swuZzfn8cuY

grausamkeit - pink green 666

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZI066qr1mE

daimon - presence of the past

Bit late, but piling up more great stuff on the list is always a decent option I hope.

Going with the last 10 years option - most what I'd say are my fave BM albums ever were released in that period in fact

In no particular order:

Aosoth - IV: Arrow in Heart and V: The Inside Scriptures (the former's in a three-way tie for BM GOAT album for me)
Thantifaxath - Sacred White Noise
Lunar Aurora - Hoagascht
Gruzja - I iść dalej
Drastus - La croix de Sang
Almost everything Blut aus Nord released, but particularly Memoria Vestusa III and Hallucinogen
Carpe Noctem - Vitrun (the third contestant in the aforementioned three-way GOAT bout)
Blattaria - Blattaria
Arizmenda - Despair Depths Descended
Odraza - Esperalem tkane

(cheating incoming)
Knelt Rote - Alterity (more grind but there are BM riffs in there, and the album is just great so if ultraviolent blackened stuff interests you, check it out)
Emptiness - Nothing but the Whole (...kinda BM, all sorts of unique and awesome, really great atmosphere on this one)

I'm looking for bands who combine black metal and dungeon synth in the same song. By searching the archives I've found plenty of bands who have some black metal songs and some dungeon synth songs, but I'm interested to hear a combination of the two genres in the same song.

I'm looking for something a bit darker and more lo-fi than Summoning, with more emphasis on the eerie side of dungeon synth.

Maybe try Ventos or Obsidian Grave. The Lament in Winter's Night side of the split in the latter is good as well, if you enjoy it you would probably want to look into more of Dark Adversary's roster. Also Geheimnisvoll.

Maybe Old Sorcery? From what I'm aware, Sorrowcrown is the only album of theirs with much black metal on it, but I enjoyed it. The black metal sections reminded me of Paysage Dhiver if that's lo-fi enough for you.

Hi guys,
I'm looking for bands similar to early Al-Namrood (Kitab Al Awthan, Estorat Taghoot) and late Leviathan (True Traitor, True Whore, Scar Sighted).
Thanks in advance

I'm looking for something similar to late Leviathan stuff (Scar Sighted; True Traitor, True Horror). Something with dense atmosphere, "angry" vocals, noise elements and maybe clean production. One album that comes to my mind is Teethed Glory & Injury by Altar of Plagues.
I'm also looking for something similar to early Al-Namrood discography (Kitab Al Awthan, Estorat Taghoot). "Real", kind of raw black metal with middle eastern vibes. Nothing catchy like Melechesh or Narjahanam.
Thanks in advance

What's the next Leviathan album I should listen to? I've listened to both The Tenth Sublevel and Scar Sighted.

Those two are probably his best ones... Massive Conspiracy is the one i would check out next and then the only album from side project Lurker of Chalice, if you missed it.

Dude, try Grausamkeit's demo Angeldestruction, track two "Im Zeichen Des Bosen" is exactly what you're looking for.

Does Ancst still count as black metal? If you haven't already heard them, that may be what you're looking for.

Dies Irae, Enid (specially older stuff, I think they might have been the first band to cover Summoning), and Druadan Forest.
All of these apply to the poster looking for dungeon synth-y bm too.

Thanks, I will check all of these out. Which Druadan Forest album should I start with? The band's discography appears to be split between the late nineties and the 2010's, should I do the old-school demos or the new albums?
