My grindcore playlist needs more variety, some powerviolence would be a nice addition. However, the archives aren't helpful for that because we don't add powerviolence bands. Can anyone give me some classic songs or albums? I'd prefer stuff that's on Spotify so I can listen to it away from home, but I know there's a lot of good shit that isn't on the platform.

Infest is pretty mandatory as a starting point. You can backtrack a bit and check out Siege. Check out Capitalist Casualties, Charles Bronson, Crossed Out, Despise You, Dropdead and Yacopsae.

Some currentish bands that are good are Harm Done, Weekend Nachos, Magrudergrind, The Afternoon Gentlemen and Sick of Stupidity

Haven't checkout out most of these yet, I'm getting around to it though. I generally listen to 2 albums a day at most, and I already did two today. One of them was Despise You and I loved it, great start for this powerviolence stuff. I also already know Magrudergrind, I always thought of them as grindcore.

There is an old adage that someone on the internet once said which I liked. It goes: "by the time powerviolence had a name, it had already past its peak".
I'm not a huge fan of this stuff but I do listen to it from time to time. The Infest album ("Slave") is probably the most obvious starting point, their comeback album ("No Mans Slave") is excellent too. Incredible band but you have to meet them on their terms (i.e., takes a while to get into it).

Overall, I don't think of this as an 'album' genre. Most of the classic bands compile their 7"s and splits and tapes on discography retrospectives, and these can be a bit patchy because the band's quality varies from release to release.
The absolute best record I've heard in this genre is No Comment's "Downsided" 7", which is one of the best hardcore records ever made and shows how extreme hardcore can get without a smidgen of metal influence. Amazing record and mandatory listening for pretty much everyone.

Other than that I enjoy listening to Crossed Out and Neanderthal every now and then.
I agree that everyone should listen to Siege regardless how they are classified, since they were the fastest and most extreme band of 1983 when they made "Drop Dead", and a huge influence on grindcore.

Lack of Interest - Trapped Inside is my favorite in this genre. There's a lot of shit to go through in this genre imo, especially when it comes to newer bands, but a few other releases I like are:

Water Torture - Pillbox
Sordo - Tactical Precision Violence
Backslider - s/t and Maladapted
Sex Prisoner - s/t
Sidetracked - Uniform

Charles Bronson and Dropdead are essential. Some decent modern bands would be Weekend Nachos and Sex Prisoner as well

Everyone has mentioned the old essentials so I'll rec some good modern shit:

Kurai Jukai - combination of powerviolence, noisegrind and industrial.
Cave State - straightforward, thrashy powerviolence.
Friendship - powerviolence, sludge, crust hybrid.
