I never got over The Wandering Midget breaking up and I need to find something else that sounds like them. I like most of the other finnish trad doom bands, but I need that loose rhythm section and indescribable weird vibe that feels like the musical equivalent to a Clark Ashton Smith story. Reverend Bizarre, for instance, doesn't quite do it. I don't know that they even sound that similar, but I though Church of Void were the next best thing until they split up too.

Maybe give a try to Solemn Lament; it's one of those rare somber trad doom albums, slow and dark with no heavy metal features at all.

Apostle of solitude is another one in this style.

I take this opportunity to report that TWM have uploaded on their Bc their albums for free!

Can anyone recommend something similar to Monoliths?

Slow, crushing, surprisingly dynamic and not just wallowing in misery like some bands of this ilk.

Try Gargantuan Blade - It has Samuel Wormius same guy from The Wandering Midget

Bongripper are probably your best bet.

Hello, I am looking for some stupidly catchy modern doom like Lucifer and their first album. Thank you.

So, after a period of digging and a hand from a lastfm user, I’ve gathered about 3/4 of Maciej Koper’s output (dronehouse, dot, Inanition, Life Curse, V12140). Here’s the link where I’ll keep it uploaded for now. Once I complete the discography (or give up on ever finishing it), I’ll upload everything to archive.org as well.

EDITED for the time being

@Morphine1873 the “Eternal Beauty of the End” album keeps eluding me. If at any point you get around to ripping that cassette, I’ll gladly do the cutting and tagging part for the songs.

Yo dude I'm pretty sure the mods will REALLY frown on this. Posting pirated downloads of bands' music is how you get music sites shutdown.

I don’t think this qualifies as piracy, Maciej made all of his music freely available from the getgo, you’ll find that info wherever you look for his bands’ output. I’m re-uploading it because it’s no longer available on the net (all the sites in which it was hosted have since gone down), only through P2P sharing.

/E with that being said, can't hurt to ask first, so I'll do that.
Having received no reply so far, I’ll keep from posting it yet. If you want the link, just send me a PM.

I concur: they guy never sold his production, it's always been offered for free, all his inputs on various boards made this very clear.

Yes, I'll try and convert that bloody tape in digital files eventually. I seem to have got the idea of how I can do that, but I need a tape player, which I got rid of, like an asshole, years ago!

Somebody, and everybody, hit me up with your most craziest, most despairing funeral doom. Bands are great, but try to give me some specific album suggestions please.

I find the genre very interesting, but am very new to it. I like Ahab, Ennui, and Nortt, and those are basically the only ones I know.

Someone give me a megalist!!!

A lot depends on the state of mind you approach the music with, it’s very easy for music expressing intense emotions to vary between feeling serious to completely corny. For example, no matter how lauded the band is, I’ve never been able to listen to Shape of Despair and not feel like it’s just too much, to the point where it’s almost a cliché.

But fwiw, my recommendation is to go with the classics:
Funeral - Tragedies
Worship - Last Tape Before Doomsday
Skepticism - Lead and Aether
Thergothon - Stream from the Heavens
Virgin Black - Requiem: Fortissimo (isn’t funeral doom all the way through, but it’s some of the most miserable music ever)
Mournful Congregation - The Monad of Creation

I see exactly what you mean, and agree completely. There is a fine line between expressing real emotions in a serious way, especially negative ones, and coming across as a complete douche. Thanks for the list, dude. Seriously, this kind of music is just speaking to me, so you've given me a doorway to enter that world through.

Pantheist's first album O Solitude deserves a mention, very elegant, melodic and very sad.

If you look for a less "romantic" approach to misery there is Winter's Into Darkness: It's not strictly funeral doom but it's some of the bleakest music i've ever heard

Considering this specific part of your request, you can't expect a megalist of bands, but I'd like nonetheless to point you to three weird, very special ultra underground albums:

The second demo of I drowned in a Stream of Mourn (the guy had between 12 and 16 when they recorded it and it's magic imo): https://www.soundclick.com/artist/defau ... dID=119833

Whispers by Ysigim: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YI-KdB6yUzw

Apocalypsis Damnare by Rigor Sardonicous: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wf44r0tlBG0

Among the rawest fd bands, you're likely to find some very bizarre stuff, unpolished, unpolite, babaric and odd... But it's a very small niche within the niche!

Howdy!

Can anyone recommend me some old-fashioned doom with a vocalist similar to Messiah Marcolin, if such a thing exist? Please, not some too obscure shit that I’m gonna have to spend 200$ to acquire a copy on Discogs.

https://cultofsalem.bandcamp.com/album/unhallowed-rites

Lovecraftian doom where Marcolin-like vocals (strikingly similar) are intertwined with raw death-ish growls.

otherwise: While Heaven Wept, Antlantean Kodex, Scald, Doomsword, Below showcase the same kind of theatrical, bigger-than-life vocals Marcolin-era Candlemass does

Cult of Salem is exactly what I’m looking for. I already know Atlantean Kodex and Scald but I will definitely check out the others. Thanks.
