I have what I suspect might be an annoying recommendation request. I apologize if you've heard this one a million times before. I love old Metallica and Megadeth, and I've spent a bunch of time trying out thrash bands, trying to duplicate that, but I'm having a hard time finding anything else that gets me excited like that. Most thrash bands are too intense/fast/chaotic/over-the-top for me (sorry). I suspect maybe thrash mostly just isn't my genre, but I can't help wonder if there might be some rare bands I might be overlooking that are worth a try. I suspect what I really like about the old Metallica and Megadeth is the songwriting and virtuosic guitar riffs, as opposed to the fastest stuff around.

I love Artillery's By Inheritance, and I like Flotsam & Jetsam, Testament, Stormwarrior. I really enjoyed Paradox's Collision Course. I love Helstar's Nosferatu and early Iced Earth but I realize that's not thrash. I enjoyed Annihilator's Criteria for a Black Widow but apart from that they have so many crappy albums. Some other thrash bands that I thought were just OK, nothing special: Destruction, Heathen's Victim of Deception, Powermad, and to a limited extent, Anthrax, Exodus, Susperia, Sodom, Carnal Forge, Rigor Mortis's Rigor Mortis vs the Earth -- while they have some OK stuff, I rarely find myself drawn to listen to them.

I'm not looking for Slayer, Sepultra, Forbidden, Morbid Angel, The Haunted, S.O.D., Overkill, Dark Angel, Coroner, Nuclear Assault, Voivod, Death Angel, Kreator. In the past I enjoyed The Crown, Witchery, Raise Hell but these days they're too extreme for me. I mostly listen to power metal, melodic death metal, and plain ol' heavy metal, but I'm wondering if I might be missing some thrash classics.

I have a hard time with very high-pitched singers, groove, and "play as fast as you can". I wonder if maybe thrash just isn't the genre for me, and maybe I happen to like a few thrash bands despite their genre rather than because of it. I realize this kind of recommendation request is probably pretty hard to work with and not much fun, so apologies for that (and I definitely don't mean to diss your favorite genre). If you got anything for me, I'd be interested. Thank you for reading!

In_Zane: Is older Necrodeath (Italy) anywhere near? 'Into the Macabre' from 1987 perhaps?

It's alright!

A bit lower production quality, but I can still enjoy it. :D

It's a banger! And so is the third one from them, 'Mater of All Evil' from 2000. Basically, with cleaner sound but no aggression lost...

Im looking for a two men thrash metal band. Guitarist/Singer and Drummer. I saw them years ago opening for Destroyer 666. I looked them up at the time. This is what I can remember (I could be misremembering things) This was about 5 years ago. At the time they had two EP's out which got good reviews here. On the page it said that they had a bassist. So it could be that this guy either was unavailable at the concert or left the band. It was a european band, possibly from Germany. I think one of the EP had Aura in its name but I can't find anything that looks familiar.

Super vague, I know but does this ring any bells with anyone?

Fueled by Fire: I like the feel, but they sing about killing posers all the time! Sure, let's kill posers, but can't they sing about something else!

The others I'll check out later, still trolling the P2P networks for mp3s.

I got a good thrash revival. Exodus. Blood in, blood out.

Might seem obvious but Peace Sells by Megadeth has a lot of solos. RIP by Coroner has a lot of fills that are somewhat solo like.

A reviewer here on MA wrote the following about Tankist's (the band that I manage) album Unhuman: "The solos on this album are extremely abundant. Solos pop up on every song and usually appear more than once or even twice. While there are a ton of solos, they aren't just there for the sake of throwing them in. They do actually serve a purpose to the music and add so much to it."

So this may very well be what you're looking for.

It has probably been asked before, but here it goes...

I'm looking for thrash bands with clean vocals, preferably from the 80's and early 90's. Stuff like Anthrax, Artillery, Heathen, Forbidden, Realm, Flotsam & Jetsam, Overkill, Toxik, (early) Annihilator. I'm quite well versed in thrash metal, but there might be some hidden gems I've missed. Oh and while I'm not looking for speed metal, I know there might be some overlap, so speed\thrash acts are welcomed too.

I already know and enjoy Mekong Delta, but not the others. Will check them out tonight. Thanx!

Out of these bands, Intruder and Mystik were the best ones, especially Intruder. Pretty spot on. Lawshed and Grinder were not bad either. Destructor were not exactly what I was looking for, a bit rougher, but interesting still.

It's been a long time since I listened to Cyclone Temple so not sure how similar they actually are but three of their members were in Znowhite beforehand, so I'd say also check out their album "Act of God"

I'd like some good Japanese thrash recommendations, I don't think I've ever listened to any so I'm curious how they'd sound.

Let's start with (what I consider) the obvious ones:

Sabbat (1st wave black metal, but gets thrashier as you go along)
Abigail (black thrash)
Terror Squad
Fastkill
Evil (black/thrash similar to 90's Sabbat)

Less obvious ones:

Thread Worm
Rosenfeld
Barbatos (punkier version of Abigail)
Cut Throat
Sacrifice
Harkenkreuz
Doom (early stuff is progressive and avant-garde thrash)
Gargoyle (progressive thrash)
Aion (Deathrash Bound)

Thank you! I actually have listened to Sabbat and Abigail before but I guess they didn't register to me as thrash. I haven't checked out the others though, at least they don't ring a bell.

Not looking for any recommendations, but I just wanted to share that Flames' Summon the Dead is one of the best thrash metal albums that I've discovered recently. While the riffs remind me of early Kreator and Morbid Saint, the arrangements are quite something. You've got some slower passages, one grandiose epic ('Legend II'), a proto melodic death metal song ('Avenger') and practically a pure black metal tune ('Slaughterhouse'). Oh, and this came out in 1988 for fuck's sake!

Ok thrashers, what's everyone's favorite thrash albums of 2022?
I think it's worthwhile to ask this here coz the Worthwhile albums thread tends to be so overwhelming dominated by death, black, disso this and post that releases that it all becomes a bit of a blur.
The Album Of The Year list doesn't state what genre each band/album is, so is mostly useless for filtering out your specific genre interests.
Anyway, I'm up to date with the new releases from Megadeth, Kreator, Razor, Vio-Lence, Toxik, The Troops Of Doom, Destruction, Blind Illusion, Xentrix, Annihilator and I'll add in there Soulfly and Venom Inc as well, but what else came out last year that thrashed your world? Feel free to add in death/thrash, black/thrash and other combos.

This new Eruption album is a nice unexpected mix of Sanctuary/Nevermore, Heathen and Forbidden. Really good stuff and I'm digging it a lot, may get this. Cheers and Burn My Eyes fuckin rules.

This is fuckin wicked! I've heard their last album before and thought they were one to watch out for. 10 tracks in less than 30mins of killer thrash from Chile, perfect for my limited attention span. Cheers definitely getting this one.

Autonoesis is definitely on my to get list.

Deathhammer I've checked out a few times over the year's but they've never connected and this album hasn't changed my mind on that. Those high vocals get annoying real quick.

Sacrifizer suffer from the same high vocal affliction as Deathhammer.

I've seen Exordium Mors live a few time's supporting the likes of Kreator, Vader and Aura Noir. A bit repetitive and it all went by in a blur. However listening to their new album on Bandcamp has opened my ears and mind to them and I dig it.

Species interest me. The whole Coroner meets Rush thing really works. May get this and they are definitely one to watch out for in the future.

Cool recs. Cheers.
