This is a great band I found a while back: http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Wo ... rld/606807

Stumbled upon this, enjoyed it a lot. It sits somewhere between melodeath & standard death metal.

I didn't check every single post here, but I couldn't find CRAVING here and although they mix Melodic Death Metal with Black Metal (and have some minor Folk and Power Metal influences) they are one of the best Melodic Death Metal Bands I know.

Just try: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25mkDJ8cnEE

Not sure if this 100% belongs here, but here goes...

Looking for music akin to the style Blood Stain Child made from 2011-2014. Basically a mix of trance and melodeath.

Some examples of their past work I'm looking for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZl34fR4y7c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guH5aUejMwA

Please don't say Amaranthe.

Not sure if it's entirely what you're looking for, but there are two bands that come to mind:

Illidiance - they call their style cyber metal, so as you can probably guess there's a lot of electronic elements to their music. Don't know if it's trance per se, but this sounds fairly similar to my ears - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XugJ9NiFfNU

Fear of Domination - melodeath/industrial, each album has a different sort of feel to it but particularly Distorted Delusions features some pretty intense synth leads akin to those in Blood Stain Child - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgMvQFcSZXI and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BoP7Q6rbH0

Hopefully this is what you were after, sorry if it's not

Try Season of Ghosts, it's the solo project of the vocalist from BSC's Epsilon. Closest thing you can get to it, honestly.

I had once taken a brief look at SoG, made a closer examination after you suggested it to me, and now it's safe to say that I'll probably listen to it more often. Thanks!

I was pleasantly surprised with both. I'll be sure to check out both of them, but I think Fear of Domination better fit what I was looking for and I might listen to a full album soon. Thanks!

Any recommendations for progressive death similar to Edge of Sanity - Crimson? Something that's relatively oldschool with the death metal parts, but with a really unique and memorable melodic twist to them. Crimson runs the gamut from catchy swedish melodeath to heavier DM to that doom riff, even a fucking slam in there at some point. The rock/goth parts are great too but I feel like that's just cause Swano excels at them, coulda turned out a lot worse in someone else's hands. Obviously the first few Opeth albums hit the mark too, lots of great midpaced swedeath riffs (but my request is not for explicity swedish-type DM)

Witherscape is good-ish but doesn't really cut it. Hated Phlebotomized.

Double posting here because Crimson is basically melodeath.

EDIT: perhaps what I'm really looking for is more like "gothic death metal"? Maybe something like doom/death with sexy, deep clean vocals that still know how to throw in a blastbeat and brutal riffage to offset the melodic parts?

I'm looking for something in the vein of Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery. Something with a neoclassical flavor and organic production etc etc.

I think you'll like these albums:
Bloodshot dawn by Bloodshot dawn
Artifacts by The End of All Reason

These are just classified Melodic Death Metal, but I think you'll like them too:
From the Oceanic Graves by In Dread Response
Shattered Shores by Silent Line

Nice balance of chug & melodies, though the Phil Bozeman vocals are a bit hit 'n miss for me.
....
Can anybody recommend me some decent Black Dahlia clones or better yet, bands influenced by them. Something modern & 'bouncy' with a slight tech death flair?

So what did everyone think of the new wolfheart. I personally think they are one the best modern Melodeath bands. Any other recent melodeath bands you guys think are really good?

Definitely Norrsköld, not only they're from Gothenburg, they keep up the tradition of combining Melodic Death and Swedish Folk elements.
Another new Swedish band is Depeseblo.
And Desdominus - Uncreation is a worthwile Slaughter-of-the-Soul-worshipping album.

I actually have two styles I'm trying to find. First off, I would like to know if there are any bands that have a similar guitar tone to the Stockholm sound as opposed to the Gothenburg sound. Basically like Dark Recollections, but melodic.

Second, are there any more bands that sound like October Tide's Rain Without End (not purely melodeath, but still melodic and with enough death metal elements to qualify)? I already know of the early Katatonia output, which is relatively similar but not exactly what I'm looking for (except, perhaps, For Funerals To Come and the WAR compilation tracks).

This came up in my Youtube feed and I had forgotten all about it. Fans of Skyfire need to check out Chaos Feeds Life. It has the same musicians and its a really cool mesh of styles. Bal Sagoth-esque synths, Skyfire leads, crossovery riffs. Quick and dirty. Love it!

Maybe try Atten Ash, they're kind of like Daylight Dies, and might scratch that itch.

Ablaze in Hatred also comes to mind.

Still looking for anything similar to the first two Opeth albums. It doesn’t have to necessarily need to have a ton of acoustic or prog interludes like them, but I’m looking for oldschool style melodic death metal that has a dreamy, freeform, wandering approach to songwriting. Lots of long, non-linear instrumental passages necessary. Big sweeping melodies like in “The Moor” and “Forest of October” recommended. Just check the intro riffage to Orchid to see what’s I mean. I suppose melodic black metal like a more aggressive Obsequaie can work too.

Hi, I'm super picky, and I'm looking for something specific. It seems death metal albums I really enjoy are:

a) technical, yet memorable, and not afraid to employ the use of various influences for brief moments (this could be a fretless bass, or use of occasional well done clean vocals, throwback thrash riffs at times -- just something that makes them stand out).

b) perhaps the bigger sticking point for me -- vocals. I really like well done harsh vocals that don't stay in one place for too long. Whether vocalists are too guttural or too shrill for too long, it can be grating, and I prefer things to keep moving along.

I didn't see a "prog-death" thread, or "technical death metal help" or anything, so I figured I would ask here. Albums I really like from these kinds of bands include:

Arsis - A Celebration of Guilt (seems they weren't really the same after this)
Into Eternity - Buried in Oblivion (ditto)
Extol's first two albums Burial and Undeceived
Yyrkoon's Dying Sun (another band that changes after this release)
Becoming the Archetype - Terminate Damnation (another band that changes)
Desultor - Masters of Hate (these guys seem to have disappeared)
and Death - The Sound of Perseverance (we all know what happened here)

I've recently tried Obscura - Diluvium, and that's been going pretty well. I wouldn't say I love them, but the check most of the boxes. Beyond Creation's first two albums have been alright, though while I'm digging the music, the vocals are a bit samey, though not offensive. Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor I'm enjoying quite a bit, but it is also another case of a band's progressive influences taking them to somewhere other than what I came to them for initially, and the second album I couldn't stand.

Thanks for any help.

I have a feeling you might enjoy "Trilateral Progression" by Neuraxis.

It's technical, and melodic with vocal styles that oscillates between higher rasps and deeper, more guttural registers. The transitions on this one is quite clever and unpredictable at times.

So I tried Trilaterial, I found quite gurgley. The music was fantastic though, so I thought I'd give them another shot, and listened to Truth Beyond (higher rated on this site), and it seems much better. Neuraxis is solid. Any others?

Hi! What kind of melodeath bands can you suggest that have easily recognizable, easy to discern melodies and riffs?

I liked Amon Amarth's "Pursuit of Vikings"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-43pOqheMY

"Twilight of the Thunder God"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edBYB1VCV0k

and "Death in Fire" songs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVvRLwmm2Tg

Liked Heathen Foray's song "Bifrost" from the album "Armored Bards"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MNsHRQQLXw

Liked Insomnium's "Weather the Storm" song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdCSJaQjfXw

Liked Wolfchant's "A Pagan Storm" album and some Eluveitie.

Didn't like At the Gates' "Slaughter of the Soul" album and neither Dissection's "Storm of the Light's Bane".

You see if it has typical thrash drum pattern and cacophonous melodies I don't tend to like it. I wouldn't even mind if it was closer to just straight-up Traditional Metal.
Although I didn't listen to too many melodeath yet, these are the songs that I have liked so far and in this direction would I want to move.

For the viking stuff:

Obtenebris https://youtu.be/Bsxeak1P8D8
Feradur https://youtu.be/T7iRiaC0mio
Dark Oath https://youtu.be/1qdAopgN0XM

Omnium Gatherum sounds extremely like Insomnium but you probably have already heard about them so Duskmourn and Noumena for more obscure bands... these may not sound as energetic as the songs you posted so you can(and should) try In Flames, early Insomnium is pretty much IF worship https://youtu.be/Tw0pAbGsU94

Hi, I am looking for a melodic death metal style that is well represented by The Black Dahlia Murder's Nocturnal. Something in that style. Other albums that sound close to the sound I am looking for are Godless Prophets and The Migrant Flora by Darkest Hour and Matriarch by The Black Dahlia Murder. It is melodic death metal with technical riffs, somewhat fast pace, and an element of vicious sound to the music. That soundscape is pretty nice. Vastly nice. lol
I don't want anything overly technical. Nothing too fast and all-over-the-place to understand when listening to. Just basic enjoyable melodic death metal you can throw on and not need to listen to with prog or djent levels of focus. Nothing too anomalous in excess like I have said here, nothing that is generally unusual to be listening to musically, basically. Not greatly fringe stuff, I would describe it as. lol

Any good, dark melodeath with noticeable cheesy 90's MIDI keyboards in vein of Garden of Shadows and perhaps early Kalmah? I'd like the album to have a lot of them, but not oversaturated with them. I'd still like a dark sound, too, so no CoB or anything like that.

EToS is the that came to mind, I can also throw Dimmu(specially EDT that has a lot of mdm going on) but of course you're aware of it. There's an obscure blackened mdm one that I'm struggling to remember that really fits your request... oh well maybe tomorrow I'll get it...

Anyway I kinda of gave up of mdm last year, was expecting new Lunarsea and Morna to release good stuff
to save mdm year but both released their weakest album to date... So I'm wondering if anyone have a top 5 or a favorite one from last year to share, because I literally have none(from what I remember anyway...).

Well, this genre has really fall from grace for soo long, even for me. But here I am to show you guys some recent, good stuff to hopefully rekindle your passion to it.

Iapetus - The Body Cosmic

Eternal Storm - Come the Tide

Dawn of Ouroboros - The Art of Morphology

All three of them are very proggy, with a bit of black and somewhat a different approach to melodic death... maybe I overextended with the last one because the melodeath elements are very subtle... but anyway I know that the genre sucks a lot right now but there's always some stuff worthy of listening and suggesting so let's avoid the death of this thread plzzz

Here's a good band/song. The archives classify them as melodeath but honestly they could pass for melodic black what with the tremolo riffs and atmosphere. In any case, the keyboards here are amazing, particularly in the acoustic middle segment.

Ablaze My Sorrow has a new full-length out today. Pretty good old-school Gothenburg stuff. Harmonized tremolo riffs, ripping vox, lots of melodic twists and tempo changes throughout.

Okay, so I've been getting into some Arghoslent, and their instrumentals are great. However, some of the lyrics are pretty offensive and is something that makes me feel uncomfortable. Can you recommend me any melodic death metal bands that sound like Arghoslent, but don't have any racist lyrics?

Mi'Gauss's Open Season is the answer, a little underground gem full of great melodies.
There are also other more directly Arghoslent inspired bands like Ares Kingdom and House of Atreus but i've never been impressed by their music.

Why were you listening to them in the first place then? I've never bothered checking them out for exactly this reason.
