So, normally I'm not a fan of atmospheric rock - or self-pity rock, as I'd like to call it :P, but Eternity is a good album and I'm looking for more stuff in this vein. Think of emotional songs with interesting dynamics, rough, semi-distorted vocals and a bleak ambiance.

This one might be a bit obvious, but it does sound lot like Pink Floyd to me :-)

You should check out "White Light..." and "Love of Life"-era Swans if you haven't already. I'm not saying they sound similar to Anathema, but they are certainly bleak and dynamic and majestic and all that stuff. MDB also covered "Failure" at some point, so metal bands have taken influence from them.

The Wounded is a gem of a band, as far as dark emotional rock/metal goes. And similar to Anathema

Atlantic is a sweet album, but Sunset is yet a notch better. Agreed, it's not 'raw', rather smooth...

Second to them, and probably not as atmo as Anathema, I recommend Hyldr/Oder of the Mist. And certainly there're some Anathema-moments to find on Riverside, an excellent prog/atmo band overall.

there're also these young chaps, Ka-Mmen, which sound very much like a more modern Anathema (vocally, it's pretty close, but with a hectic and neurotic side alien to Anathema), but it's solid and satisfaying.

In fact, re-listening to them right now, the baroque side of them also makes me think of A Forest of Stars, at times!

edit:

I must also absolutely point you to one unique album, bleak for sure, doomy, slightly indus-fusion. it's Strange Appointments by Peg51. After this brilliant start, they went on on a more heavily electro path that imo spoiled their songwriting. But this one is excellent.

I'm going to assume you're already familiar with Katatonia and Antimatter, though if you aren't, Discouraged Ones and Leaving Eden are two essential albums.

These two albums in particular are pretty much mid-era Anathema worship.

Blazing Eternity - A World to Down In

Autumnblaze - Every Sun is Fragile

That's right up my alley, so here are some tips:
    Sentenced - Down
    The Man-Eating Tree - Harvest
Fall of the Leafe - Vantage
    Anathema - Judgement
Aereogramme - My Heart Has A Wish That You Would Not Go

All are a bit different in terms of atmosphere, so try them out and see what you like.

How about:

Cemetary - Black Vanity
The Black League - Ichor

I'll respond to all of these once I'm in the mood for this stuff again. Thanks for your recommendations so far!
