Most of us are well aware of Nattramn (Silencer) and Bethlehem's former vocalist Rainer Landfermann who left a significant mark in extreme metal, in my point of view. Needless to say why, so let me go straight to the point.

I am looking for suggestions similar to the above mentioned bands in regards to the vocal approach. Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Try M8l8th, it's nsbm but the vocalist is pretty insane

On their first album at least haven't heard any others

The first M8l8th is out of this world. Especially the last track sounds like a madhouse towards the end.

Helheim's first album has insanely high pitched vocals. They aren't even harsh, they're more like a clean yell.
The first Temnozor' demo has very shrill and harsh vocals by Tyr.

Have you heard A Darker Shade of Evil by Fleurety? No? You're in for a uh...treat. I guess.

Weakling's vocals are pretty wild. Their one album is absolutely fantastic.

So far, so good, guys. Weakling is a good reminder, actually. Been a while since I listened to them.

Nazgul, an Italian symphonic black metal band, is infamous for some pretty unique vocals. There's no way anyone could understand what he's saying.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLAWqrDPjKc

Utarm also has some of the most demented vocals I've heard. Sounds like he's being tortured. Hard to call it enjoyable music. Click on the first song or the second one, doesn't matter.

I always thought the vocals Dark Fortress - "Stab Wounds" were pretty evil & hateful, particularly on the track "Rest in Oblivion".

Just reminded me of more classics as well as introduced some truly good stuff. I especially loved Luror. Seriously evil and mental vocals in there and the music is on a par with them, speaking of quality. Thanks a lot!

More suggestions are always welcome.

With all the focus on the percussion, many people fail to realise that Mysticum used to have really crazy vocals.

Upon first listening, I almost burst into laughter because of the uncommon high-pitched-power-metal-like vocals. After a while, though, I think I enjoyed it. You are definitely right that it is different on a massive scale.

Oh, yes. So much good stuff to hear on this thread

I like to suggest Torturium whenever this topic arises, because nearly no one has listened to it yet they should =)

Oh, there's also this thing which is pretty huh... interesting
It's too underground to find anywhere though, I could only find that particular song on YT

You might as well like the Göll/Botulistum split althought it's more to the joke side, I believe... I think it's one of those records which sound much better/worse depending on your setup though...

Not quite as harsh as some stuff here but still lots of emotion on display in this one.

I recall Helheim having some pretty intense screams for vocals.

Great contributions in here! By the way, I'd like to add that it turns out Nattramn of Silencer is currently working on a new "extreme metal" project. You can read the announcement here: https://goo.gl/MFhdPJ

Many good to great mentions here already, so I'll just throw in Sortsind from Denmark with their cool album "Sar", psychotic vocals included.

Dark Tribe definitely have the demented vocals figured out. Not sure how many guys are "singing", but they all sound like ranting, raving lunatics.

I'm surprised the early DSBM band Malvery isn't more well known for this. Their vocals range from standard black metal vocals to Hight pitch screams and out of tune clean vocals, which sound similar to Attila Cishar, when he does his more operatic vocals. The music is pretty unhinged as well. The fact that the vocalist committed suicide soon after recording the vocals makes things even more sinister.
https://youtu.be/pUtzefMQKbg

Endless Dismal Moan Have some of the most angery and malevolent sounding vocals I've heard. They were a one man black metal band from Japan. It's kind of a matter of personal taste as to whether you find them genuinely creepy or cheesy.

Hate Forest - Scythia

The vocals on this demo are extremely demented. You can tell that the vocals have been altered in the studio. The vocals really make the songs worth listening to.

I almost forgot to point out Nocte Obducta's early stuff, especially "Lethe - Gottverreckte Finsternis". It appears to be a very underrated album. The vocals are truly wild!

Akitsa from Quebec has some pretty crazy vocals but they can vary from song to song. At times the vocals are incredibly harsh shrieks or lean towards more standard black metal vocals but every now and then there are eerie cleans that remind me of Isengard at times. All in all they are easily one of the best bands out of the Quebecois black metal scene.

Screaching style vocals.

Isengard clean style. Compare to the Isengard song "Our Lord Will Come"

Well... No thread titled like this should be devoid of Urfaust. I know, it's not really close to what the op requested but still... worth a mention:

Aaskereia have some pretty sick vocals as well:

Akitsa are a great shout for this thread.

I'll add Alexandros from Macabre Omen as being particularly versatile (and insane sounding at times), he moves frequently between clean, growled, and shrieked styles.

For low but raspy vocals that while not insane still sound demented, there's this album by Demoncy (especially the song Hidden Path to the Forest Beyond): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7puwpLBJBtU&t=25m25s

P.S I haven't ever looked around based on that particular criteria or in general black metal lately, more around the Depressive/Brutal/Funeral and genre oddities as well as bands like Abyssal(UK) but no doubt the more "traditional" stuff like Endless Dismal Moan that was mentioned clicks the most with me. If I had one wish in this subject it's knowing every Black Metal band that has such a signature sound that it can't be replicated, which in turn would mean it actually had a reason to even exist.

I wouldn't classify them as pure black metal, but Raz's vocals on the third Graveyard (US) demo instantly came to mind when I saw this thread.
