Hi,

Here's seeking the opinion of more experienced members. I tend to focus on drums more than anything else in death metal song structures so can someone share their feelings about which death metal drummers are the most proficient. I will check out those bands.

Thanks in advance.

Check out Dying Fetus' album Destroy the Opposition. Kevin Talley is a machine on that album! The drums on Epidemic of Hate are incredible.

Lord Marco is a hit aka Marco Pitruzzella
I'd also put in Sebastian Lanser off Diluvium, holy shit isn't the production top notch you can mind-literally trace out the details of his skin battery

Jon Longstreth and Adam Jarvis, from Gorguts/Origin and Misery Index respectively. Their fills are insane.

George Kollias (overall my all-time greatest drummer ever, drum god)
Dave Culross (really cool, distinct blasts, fluid playing style)
Rob Proctor (Assück) (a league of his own, just like the whole band was)
Spencer Prewett (new generation of creative extremity)

A lot my favorites have already been mentioned, but I have to recc Alex Hernandez' three album run with Immolation - Failures for Gods, Close to a World Below and Unholy Cult. Dude is a fucking beast and really creative.

I feel like a top grade idiot for not mentioning Pete Commando Sandoval earlier on.

I sometimes just acknowledge the drums when I listen to metal, but then there was my discovery of what Mike Smith brought to Suffocation on those early albums.

Other than that, I envy the speed and brutality of Krisiun’s drummer, who sounds incredible on their latest album. Hard to believe he’s human. Haha

Leon Macey, pretty much the master of the band Mithras, who isn't commonly mentioned. He's also a phenomenal guitarist, but he knows his ways around the drums when it comes to Death Metal.
