Hello. I generally listen to a lot of symphonic black/death metal witch incorporate tons of keyboards. However, songs that are completely keyboard driven from start to finish are rare.

A good example of what I am looking for:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t3qx81aoPs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jQOb7oPlbo

The keyboards dominate these songs from start to finish... Any good recommendations? Thank you.

Thanks everyone! Yes Dimmu happens to be my favorite band actually. Their album "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" is my favorite, and it left me wanting for more of that style.

Does anyone know a symphonic/melodic band that employ high-pitch bells like the ones I linked?

Cradle of Filth has a few, but not with continuous keyboards from start to end, I'm afraid:

Yes this is perfect actually, despite dani's vocals... Its ok if the keyboards are not continuous but songs like this one are special.

Awesome stuff

I also found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coKVFGTMsMw

Interesting use of bells that create a superb melodic feeling.

I hate to burst your bubble (or I'm glad to provide you with more insight), but the instrument you're hearing isn't bells. If anything, it's a celesta or a glockenspiel or (more likely) an electronic keyboard imitating those instruments.

Yes obviously they are not real bells, and they are played using a synthesizer, which is what im looking for.

The discussion begins and ends with Bal-Sagoth, the kings of keyboard-slathered black metal. Battle Magic and The Power Cosmic are their most representative albums, in my opinion.

They aren't fake bells either. The glockenspiel is not a bell nor does it resemble one.

But here's a song that does have a bell sound (albeit briefly at the beginning and middle). Limbonic Art was mentioned already, but this song has a bell sounding.

Hey I know you like Dimmu Borgir and especially the synthesized sound used on Entrance from E.D.T.

Do you know this song? https://youtu.be/xmODy1p1qY4
It's a not very well known song from, I think, an instrumental sideproject by Shagrath and a female vocalist. But it does utilise the exact same bell/glockenspiel/whatever sound used in Entrance.

It's hilarious that I was listening to that song the same moment I read your post for the first time :P

Yeah this is magical. I love it. Not really metal, but still...

I think Tidfall is what you are looking for. Very reminiscent of early Dimmu Borgir:

Good stuff, the raw production really helps the music on this one rather than ruin it.

Also, what about cyber black metal like Neurotech "Antagonist", Thee Maldoror Kollective "New Era Viral Order" etc?

Profanum's last two albums are symphonic black metal without guitars.

Doesn't it eliminate the black metal part? If the asker liked this album, he'd be better off listening to Elend and Dargaard, who this music reminded me of.

Yes and no. While it's not strictly black metal, obviously, I think the drumming and vocals gives it more commonalities with symphonic black metal than with Dargaard or Elend. Anyhow, I thought Profanun would be a worthwhile suggestion, and if it misses the mark, it misses the mark.

Recently discovered Gire.
https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Gire/23338

Has the keyboardist from Thy Catafalque. Not extreme, as they fit more in the avant-garde category so don't expect the bombast of Dimmu Borgir etc.

Only listened to the 'Energire' demo so far, but I get a mix of older Lux Occulta and Alchemist out of it.

EDIT: Couldn't put my finger on who else it sounded like, but there's shades of Radigost in there. Especially where the drum tone's concerned.

EDIT #2: Now that I've listened to their full-length, it's definitely more extreme in its delivery. Much closer to Thy Catafalque's heaviest stuff.

BTW, I didn't notice initially this thread is not about black metal solely, but death metal as well.
In that case Eternal Tears of Sorrow "The Virgin and the Whore" should come as a fit subject, as this MDM album is full of keyboards.

Seconding Nokturnal Mortum

Countless recommendations I could make, but off the top of my head:

Gehenna, not as 'dominated' by keyboards but they have a prominent presence

Youtube: show

The Elysian Fields. Goes nuts at 3:20

Youtube: show

The melodies on this early Behexen demo are very keyboard-driven, I think it's excellent

Youtube: show

If we're counting death metal, Crematory is very keyboard heavy

Youtube: show
