It's been awhile since I've found new metal music that I've really enjoyed, and these days, I splurge a lot more into other genres. That said, I figured it would be worthwhile to post here and see if anything you guys suggest sparks some new life into my inner metalhead.
Looking in particular for long songs (>10 minutes) with a trudging groove, as I like the atmosphere to build and build. Folky elements are welcome, too. The bands I listen to most are Agalloch, YOB and Summoning. Perhaps lesser known, but I also really enjoy Midnight Odyssey, Ne Obliviscaris and Gallowbraid.
Thanks a bunch!
You have a pretty diverse tastes of bands that dont quite mix well with each other. Im not a good sludge fan but I do understand summoning, midnight odyssey, and ne obliviscaris. Most of my complaint agains sludge metal is it lacks the theatrical and more rich atmospheric elements of those 3 groups i pointed out.
A band I can think of is GOATPSALM "Downstream" I cant remember how long their songs were but I remember they had a weird folk/sludge combo that seemed interesting.
