https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7BVP9CvGOa2EUV3F3jXvr5?si=gl3WJx7ZSE65sg3gnHVcEg

The only genres that I don't include on the list are

- straight up "Neue Deutsche Härte" because that would be material for an entire different list.
- classic black metal (By that I mean black metal without other elements)
- straight up "Medieval Metal" (Mittelalter Metal) for the same reason as Neue Deutsche Härte.

And another question: Which Böhse Onkelz songs/albums would you consider "metal"?

Another thing to consider: I don't include full albums in order to have more variety of bands. And as you can see I lack songs with clean vocals if we compare with the songs that include growls/screams.

Recently I'm listening to Asenblut and picking songs for the list, eventually I will include more.

Actually, Totenmond may fit for you. Nice mix of Carnivore, Amebix and Metal. All vocals in German, and thankfully audible.

Their best song unfortunately doesn't feature written lyrics and it is even hard for me to find out the words he sings, even as a natural German speaker :)

I was considering adding some Angizia songs, but I'm not sure if it qualifies as metal, the only album I listened in its entirity is "Ein Toter fährt gern Ringelspiel", maybe eventually I will listen to the other ones, maybe they are more metal. But you're right, maybe I can add some Angizia songs.

Most of the other bands you suggested are black metal, so I think I'll pass. I'm not still very into it, except for some bands like Emperor.

As said, in the GDR-pre-1990 thread, there were some great bands mentioned. I also like the lyrics of these bands. Mind you, there was still the Iron Curtain and people weren't allowed to travel and it was a pain in the ass to even travel inside Eastern Europe as a person living in the former GDR. You wonder why these bands sang about "sky", "clouds", "birds", ... but it is pretty clear what these keywords meant for them and for their fans.

Formel 1 - Live LP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XguiY9oWsgM
Biest EP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_b98QvVsgc (sadly the drumcomputer ruins it, but though stuff for 1987)
Babylon - Dynamit LP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4ZS-CWhiiY
Plattform - Lichter Der Nacht LP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWzqflFaZT8
Crystal - EP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVaUg0Zn4Rw
Blackout - from Demo '87 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvdDnD3ARhU before they changed to Depressive Age

Bands that immediately come to mind are Bethlehem and Eisregen.

Always found Eisregen very underrated because they managed to come up with a pretty unique sound. Like a weird poppy black-metal-lite rock with lyrics so offensive they had several albums banned in Germany.

Bethlehem range from experimental metal/rock
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77fh62F61fE
to a fusion of genres that's still closer to black metal than anything else
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBabSFOc3So
. (They've been credited with founding the "dark metal" subgenre, but I'm not sure I would agree that it's a full-on subgenre...)

Angizia's first three releases, though unusual and particular have close ties with black metal. The latters probably lost this kind of metal influence.

Yet, if you like Emperor it is strange you don't listen to Dornen Reich whose music is similar in the first album then developed into even more complex things

Also Der Rote Milan & der Weg etc use to have influences not so distant from the cold melodies of the norwegians.

The only pure, yet dimly melodic band playing pure black metal is Klage, this is probably not of your taste.

Ungfell is an enormous band playing folk/ medieval music inspired black metal, give it a try

Finally, if you' re into things like emperor you may also like Nocte Obducta, all their albums lyrics are written in german
